Paul Smith is the author of Dead Man to Ironman and currently lives in Chamonix, France.
"I was a healthy 43 year old going about my business when in June 2014 I was rushed to hospital with a burst Appendix, I had been suffering with bowel pain on and off for at least 2 years. In August that year I was told that I in fact had Appendix Cancer and I was referred to the North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke who gave me the devastating news of my Pseudomyxoma Peritonei diagnosis and explained to me the “The Mother of all Surgeries” and chemotherapy I would need to save my life.
As I came to terms with the news I began a beginners triathlon training program to help me prepare. In November that year I spent three weeks in hospital but leading up to the surgery I had well and truly caught the triathlon bug and had the crazy idea to sign up for Ironman Wales. The only snag, I had just 10 months to train for it"

Always a spectacular day out and one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places to visit on a quiet day out of season. Rhossili Bay is often voted for as one of the top 10 beautiful Beaches in the world for good reason.

A sunny trip down the Arete Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix on a sunny day in September 2020. Soft snow in the Baking Sun and it was still only around 9am. Once down we took a hike upto Lachenal and the Cosmiques Hut for a spot of lunch. The route to Helbronner was littered with Crevasses after the hot weather.

Beautiful but tough run/hike from Chamonix Centre to Signal Forbes overlooking the Mer de Glace. The return was via the Montenvers Train.

Our Ascent of Mont Blanc from Refuge Tete Rousse. The weather and conditions underfoot were perfect and the Grand Couloir although the day before we were unsure of our ascent due to constant rock falls was silent for our crossing. This video blog details of speed hike through the Rochers des Fiz via the Derochoir and the Col de Portette. We took 5 hours to complete the 15km circuit which started and finished at Lac Vert near Plan Joux. In total we hiked 1267m elevation.

Our hike to the summit of Mont Buet via Cheval Blanc following a Bivouac at Col Corbeau. Includes the climb up through the Tres Des Eaux. The going was good but the route is exposed in places and we found the most precarious places to be the loose scree slopes on the approach to the North Ridge. This video blog shows the conditions on our ascent of the Passage du Derochoir on the 18th August 2020. The conditions were good under foot with a bit of damp rock midway up due to the cloud base on the day. This video blog is from our overnight hike to Lac Pormanaz from La Mont near Servoz. The next day we hiked up to the the Col d'Anterne at 2257m to look out over the la Montagne d'Anterne and the Tete a L'Ane. The hike was 18.5km with 1400m of elevation and took approx. 6 hours in total either side of the overnight stop. Any questions leave a comment and I will get back to you.

This video blog shows the conditions you may be likely to expect if you hike to the Tres-les-Eaux. The hike was uneventful but there were two patches of snow which could have been problematic if still frozen and you were not equipped with Crampons. This hike was 18.2km long with 1460m of elevation gain and took 6.5 hours at a leisurely pace. If you have any questions please leave a comment below.

This short video blog will show you what you can expect if you are considering a adventurous mountain hike to the refuge Couvercle. You will need to cross the glacier and although dry during the summer crevasse rescue kit and crampons are still recommended. The ladders are extremely high and can be protected by roping up and using the fixed carabiners but this is not available on all sections. ...

Loved the vid. Just came back from holidays up at Tregroes caravan park. Always wanted to try the blue lagoon, found out it was just down the road so off we went. The first level was so bad but the 2nd level looks a lot higher from up there than in the water….. gonna try the top next time
