Patching a 1.5" Hole in an Inflatable kayak - 4 product comparison
For the test I used a pillow from Intex Excursion Pro.
From what I understand though it's pretty representative for any vinyl materials. And that's what most kayaks are made of.

Sealing a pin hole in inflatable kayak. 3 product comparison

I used an inflatable pillow from Intex Excursion Pro for this experiment. That's the kayak that 's most likely to have holes of this type. But pretty much all flat water kayaks are made of pretty similar materials, and I think that this test is relevant for vast majority of them.

I didn't have good success with Flex Tape. 1. Applying it to the DEFLATED raft didn't work good. Inflating the raft ruins the patch. So I applied it while the raft was inflated. Much better. 2. Instructions make no mention of scuffing surface. I noticed that it works much better when scuffing first. 3. That was on the bottom of the raft. It's held "good enough", but the raft still loses air over time. 4. I just patched a smaller hole on the top. I didn't scuff this time. 48 hours later, the Flex Tape has bubbled and lifted a lot. 5. My Flex Tape is loaded with creases. Those creases are basically a long air bubble when applied. I am VERY disappointed with how Flex Tape performed. I would only recommend it as an emergency field repair to temporarily fix a puncture while you are using it.

the weight capacity is part of why I'm looking at a sea eagle; I'm upper 200s myself. And their 330 is rated to 500 which is a nice margin. The intex ones are mostly all rated to low 200s until you get to the tandems.

INTEX explorer 2 is better. I thought too paddling and having my seat on the far end. You need to have your seat positioned in center of the kayak for one person for best performance!!! Remember it's a two person kayak but while paddling one person the seat has to be in center. You get the best performance!! And the kayak then floats straight, doesn't swerve side to side 😊

transport is a big reason I'm looking at getting them. We have a nice canoe but it's a pain to load and move. And driving 3-4 hours with a canoe on your roof is just deeply unfun in heavy traffic. Then you add in the fact we have 2 adults and 2 kids, and man. Moving two tandems or four solos is just...ugh

Thank you so much for this analysis. We've loved canoeing rentals in the past, but can't afford a canoe, or a category 3 IK. We were tempted to buy a Category 1 Tobin Wavebreak from Costco, but saw a video that said it took 3 days to dry out. We're now leaning towards the Intex Excusrion Pro 2. My wife and I like to paddle together, and want to store the IK indoors. We really appreciate your taking the time to do this video!

What scares me is that these companies are mostly about making as much money as possible. They lie about their products. I’d bet that a large number of these inflatables are made in the same factory and shipped to different sellers under different names but are of the same quality just a couple different features. I know this is true of many outdoor products. It’s time to take control of our impulses and rely on people like you to point out the truth !

Bula from Fiji well what can I say: its a really great documentary about kayaks but: a completely disagree with the brand sevylor : I bought me appr. 9-10 years ago one of their really cheap reef sit on top kayak and it has being ever since then with me!! Europe ,India, Thailand, Sri lanka, Vietnam , Tonga, Vanuatu, New Zealand and now in Fiji. I always took it as luggage with me on the plane cause its not heavy ... the pump I bought locally in each county. At the moment it serves as a tender for my motorboat!... it s still working but reaching the end of her life. There is one thing with this inflatable Kayaks when using them in saltwater: always rinse them down and store them when not in use out of the sun and dont borrow it to someone else!
