Hey Mike - A few different brands - all have to be 110 grams or under. Approved discs are Hero Xtras and Airs - Hyperflite CS or Z - DTW Fastbacks - K9 Discs from Belgium.

@@discdoguniversity When I adopted my border collie, I got a bunch of the fastback type discs like the hero and the HyperFlite, but I switched to better options for my dog’s mouth. The edge in the approved discs get very rough very quickly even though my dog isn’t a chewer. Trying to catch a chewed up disc is like trying to catch a flying saw blade. It got to the point where she didn’t want to catch them because she was scared it would hurt. The only option is to spend a fortune in discs…which isn’t in my budget. I wish all the frisbee dog competition governing bodies would look at the new discs out there that are safer for our pups. My dogs’s favorites now are the Chuckit Paraflight and the DGA Blowfly II.

This is a very interesting thread, and I will share some history. When I was developing the Quad, I was getting Fastback misprints to provide for the competition (in the 100’s per order) but teams were opting to use their own discs in the competition instead of the misprint Fastbacks I was offering for use. It didn’t matter to me because I was aware that some dogs preferred different colored discs, so letting teams have choices over disc color seemed to be a good thing. My only concern was that every team was competing on an equal level playing field. So when I ordered 100 misprint discs a couple of times, I did a weight measurement. The average Fastback disc weight at that time was between 105 - 108 grams. So I added 2 grams of weight to a total of 110 grams of weight to deal with the weight fluctuations that were seen to keep discs legal in the competition. I never meant to dictate size, shape, and weight of discs, I just wanted all teams to compete on an equal level playing field.

Those are names of levels put together by the K9 Frisbee Toss and Fetch league to help people figure out what division they should play in. The breakdowns of what constitutes each level can be found at their website. Many other events you might see those listed as Advanced, Intermediate and Novice levels.

You can try doing it with your arm/fist against a wall - like in a hallway. That will not allow her to go around. Also start with your arm lower so she is almost just stepping over it to start with - makes it less of a barrier to getting the cookie!

My 9mo old told me she wants to be a disc dog when she grows up, so here we are learning how to do it safely. Her big sis will chase and pluck the disc from the air, but only once it gets low enough to the ground that she doesn't have to have her back paws off the ground. Baby girl doesn't care that she's not allowed to jump until her growth plates fuse, she jumps 3-4' straight up on her back legs when racing to the back door, almost as if she plans to go straight through the glass on the top half of the door. She's a fearless and somewhat crazy border collie, but then most of them are in one way or another! 😂 Can't wait to start teaching her to do jumps and other fun disc tricks in a few months.
