    Good information in the video, I went down to Leinster Bay/Mary Creek today with my 8WT for 2 hours, caught a decent Barracuda, bones were tight to shore, typically spooked them before I saw them.

    Does anyone use the size line we fish with? Bet they can't tie these knots using light line. Don't tell me you use big lines to show detail. Get a better camera and focus. And if the line is yellow don't use a yellow background!

      You realize the uni knot is just a multiple overhand knot on itself, right? It will work with any line, just change the number of wraps.

    Looks great! I will be there in january! But I want to do lurefishing for jack and cuda. What's the chance of catching one on surface lures around the bridge?

    • @technicalfisherman
      @technicalfisherman 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fishing on the ocean side outside the bridge can be very good, particularly when you get a moving tide. When you go east of the bridge, you will follow a foot path that takes you to the beach. There's a long sandy point that extends underwater and many sandbars. Check out this video- Jose's fishing right there near the point I believe. th-cam.com/video/WW80z7Bo8Wo/w-d-xo.html

    Seems like this knot wastes quite a bit of leader, expensive but usually only have a couple feet on there to begin with

    • @technicalfisherman
      @technicalfisherman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bassmaster- yeah it does burn up some leader unless you are very careful about how long you keep the tag ends. But, there's really no other know that's as easy to tie that will hold braid and mono (or flouro) as well as this one in our experience.

    would be using a shakespeare ugly stik gx2 9ft line rating 4-20line lures upto 3/4 but throwing 1oz lures really shows the true performance of this rod but have it spooled with a mega cast 40 reel spooled with 10-12 lb mono with about a 1/2 oz white and chartreuse jig head with 50w pork strip. Do you think this would be fine because i just dont have faith in the bigger type rods and reels. but what do you think? and where would be good this time of year to catch some stripers? beach piers, back bays, etc

    What type of jig were you using?

    • @technicalfisherman
      @technicalfisherman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      DrBadd so sorry for the long delay in response. In this video I was using a 1/2oz shad head jig with a 5" soft plastic body. We'll use this style of jig from 1/4oz up to 3oz for most of the fishing we do on the Chesapeake. Usually we are trying to use the lightest weight we can get away with given wind/current to help keep the bait looking natural. Thanks for the question and sorry again for the delay!

    Good video. But the palomar knot is soooo much stronger. So is the improved clinch knot.

    • @robertbrandywine
      @robertbrandywine 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jtphenom0811 I've seen tests that show the Uni is stronger, but also the Palomar is mainly for hooks. You can use this knot on lures and well as hooks. And you can use the Uni-Uni to join lines. You can even use it to tie your line onto the spool of your reel instead of the Arbor knot. You can also improve this knot by going through the eye twice before proceeding to tie the knot. It is then call the fish-n-fool knot. The one advantage of the Palomar knot is that it is easier to tie, but I've had it slip on me using braid, more than once, so I stopped using it and switched to the Uni.

      Garretson- thanks for your question. In the upper bay there are fish to catch and release in the deepest areas, particularly around the Bay Bridge. The big migratory fish will also start showing up down south soon and should start making their way north as the weather continues to warm. Jon0- roads from the park entrance down to the bridge are not bad. Once you get south of the bridge they get progressively worse down to Punta Allen. You should be alright in a car if you keep it slow and watch the potholes (and Topes). We had SUV's though and were very comfortable, plus easier to carry rods!

    Garretson- it was a mix in that episode depending on what the fish were doing. When they were on top, we used Stillwater SmackIt poppers, small size in black/silver. When the fish went down, it was soft plastics, 6" Bass Assasins on 1/2 to 3/4 oz jig heads. Also on the deeper fish, we used small Lil' Jimmy- LIl' Bunker lures in silver or chartreuse. Thanks for commenting!

    turn by turn would be nice. I hope i dont get lost finding the flats. Caiman wouldn't be a problem. I hunt alligators in Louisiana. The only problem with alligators are if they are used to people feeding them; otherwise alligators are shy for the most part. What worries me is not knowing spanish and not knowing the fishing laws or if I need a license or not
