An Exercise in Synthesis and Sequencing
Just some modular drums... All synthesized from mostly noise and filter resonance. The snare has a tiny bit of the Triangle waveform from the Malekko/Wiard Unkle (Oscillator) - Which is barely audible in the video, but it gives it a nice tone (this is shaped by a VCA before being added w/ the noise, to allow longer noise decay while keeping the tone short).
All sequenced from a simple clock divided by RCD and PEG.
PEG also shapes the hat and tom-ish percussion sounds. Pittsburgh ADSRs are used on the Snare and Kick. The Kick is the Pittsburgh Filter, which makes amazing kick drums. This one isn't the best, I've achieved some great kicks from it, but it takes up a few more envelopes to shape it just right.
I hope this is somewhat helpful to anyone just starting out with drum synthesis.
If you're just listening, enjoy this little groove! :D

Improv Acid Jam on the Modular Synth
มุมมอง 104K11 ปีที่แล้ว
Cam Audio. No Practice. I happened to synthesize some drums and a bassline and then decided to record. I'm still learning how to actually perform an entire track w/ just the analog gear. It's hard. I'm getting there, though. Everything is from the modular except for the excessive reverb, which is UAD's EMT-140 in Logic. Enjoy!
Who is the artist?
Nice work
That was awesome!! Such a great groove to that...Bravo ;-)
5 years, and still love it 👍
That thing looks like it controls the power system in America
nice dancing
I really really like this. Personally, I feel like I'd like it a lot more if you tried some more complex drum sequences, but that's just me.
Beats computers by a mile.
somebody got the original mp3 file? with better bass?
what is this modular synth?
great work!
nice. very fuckin nice.
Why the electronic gurus don´t know how to record in stereo on a PC? It´s a mystery... On the other hand, what excellent exhibition of the possibilities of the equipment.
So good.
Golly Gee I sure wish I had thousands of dollars to spend on a modular system!
Pete Urbann Or you could, you know, be patient, by one module at a time a master each as you go...
Totally. That's the way to do it. Start with a microbrute. Then at least you have a cv-capable synth and a foundation. Then you can buy modules one by one based on your needs. Hell, most of the time you can buy the modules in kit form and solder them yourself if you really want to save some coin. It CAN be done. I haven't done it myself but know a lot of folks that have. Cheers!
To think that acid house was invented on a device 10 times smaller and 10 times less the cost is indicative of where this new interest in modular is mostly headed.
But you will need a drum machine maybe to go with that ( it does have a sequencer built in).
For just the bass line, I might go with the MAM MB33 Retro. That is, if it doesn't have to be modular.
Tb303 is one trick pony. A modular synth is open ended, and can be used for any kind of electronic music.
very nice work and sound !!!
awesome dude
awesome :o
I wish I could steal your Talent. Great Video!
pretty great ! wish you can teach
@ 4:05 my face melted
respect!
DAMN~! TURN UP~!
analogously sounds great
nice try some jazzy :)
Great jam! What module(s) were you using for drums in this video?
bump
SCIENCE!
Those dislikes better be able to do better than this.
+Zachary “Wildcard” Lind So i can't dislike free jazz unless i'm a saxophone god ? :)
Hahaha! Don't dislike! But this is also a comment and the internet, I can't tell you what to do.
+Zachary “Wildcard” Lind i didn't dislike :)
:D
+Laurent Laborde you can dislike, but you have to respect it
really well done man you know your stuff... too bad for the cam audio we only guess it s good but cant feel it
the music of electrons, pure energy, i think i can hear them moving....
+highspacefox What a great consideration! :)
Sweet !
What's this type of music called?
+Martin Roussev Acid is the latest sound Can you feel it, all around, as you dance? Acid has a certain groove That makes your body wanna move When you hear it When the Acid hits your soul It makes you lose control, of your body Acid sounds so unique, you just have to move your feet When you hear it This is acid
+Erik-Jan van Oosten marry me!
+highspacefox HAY HSF, IF HE DON'T WANT TO, I CERTAINLY WILL !!
That's pretty solid, mate! Totally love to hear this recorded though! If you are using an iPhone to record, might I suggest the Line 6 Sonic Port VX? It's pretty solid for the price and allows you to record AUX inputs as well Line. I use it extensively for my jams!
Must be an audio out recording. Or it's for you. And not for us.
This is great! <3
fantastic!
which modular synth are you using ?
+lamuseurcitoyen Uhh... the one built out of a bunch of individual modules?
The views here, don't come close to the ones you should actually have. This is amazing.
sounds great, good job
3:45 That delay... Oh my God!
acidjohnmusic I saw this comment just as I reached that point in the video.
@@SynthApprentice same
thanks, enjoyed the listen.
This is very impressive. Keep up with the great work man.
Lazer Mission Where are all of my Korg Volca acid vids? Eh well, I choose not to crapify the silly genre of "acid"
Nice, most modular music is boring crap done by talentless hecks with to much time and money, this sounds good..cool to hear..
That must be a mental feeling.. If I ever need a dj for a mad party I will let you know... This is awesome
Dean Browne mad scientist themed? Tesla coils and dry ice drinks? Sign me up.
Pretty fine strutting for so few layers! A compelling groove with this much space is pleasant and refreshing. nuance:high spectral density::boxer briefs:tighty whities::spacious outskirts:crowded epicenters. Good show and thanks for sharing :)
Don't touch that knob! It's his trigger!
Have you even ever heard any music from the "acid" genre? Some annoying buzzing saw with no modulation? MAYBE STRIKE OUT THE ACID JAM part on your video title. Tweaking knobs to no avail. Learn where the knobs are routed or route them where they need to go to play a particular genre, and maybe have another "acid jam" once you have successfully figured out how to control filter, resonance and EG.
UnsFor Man, that's really bitchy and totally below the belt. Ok, you might not like Acid and that's your right, but give the man his due, it sounds good.
Whoa dude! Ease up on the guy. And BTW, where are all of your music performance vids? I didn't happen to see any of them on your channel. Maybe I'm doing it wrong....
achtungmark It's not a not like or like scenario. It's simply not acid sounding.
achtungmark Funny, as it never sounded "acid" even on a modular.
Lazer Mission To sound acid is to try and replicate the tb303
Excellent live.set l'ami ! ;-)
Great patch and great gear!
