Encompassing 125,000 acres of the Cumberland Plateau, Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area protects the free-flowing Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and its tributaries.
The area boasts miles of scenic gorges and sandstone bluffs, is rich with natural and historic features and has been developed to provide visitors with a wide range of outdoor recreational activities.

National parks should invest in technology to keep people safe in forests
I am 69 years old and have fished the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River for over 60 years and now I am threatened with jail time and huge fines if I take my grandsons fishing during the 2020 Spring Bass run. Why do you not allow social distancing on the river bank? Why do your rangers come of as if they are the owners and gods of the forest, some even refer to it as THEIR land? Why do some of your rangers (Reid Dietrig sp.) tell locals to stay away because the park is for tourists? I have a challenge for you, treat the locals as human beings and stop looking down on them as uneducated, backwoods hicks.

We recently went to the area for the first time. We were highly impressed with the Station Camp Horse Camp. We didn't make it here, but we are definitely going to have to get back up that way and do more hiking. We only made it to Angel Falls so far.
