His opening point about not knowing anyone who can be purely creative with people around them- I wish it was followed by a question about performance in front of an audience. Great interview ❤

I enjoyed this interview very much. I have created a de-noised version using open source software -- if Andrew Cheek wishes to it post here, I will be happy to transfer it without charge, It is a 427 MB mp4 file . Please leave a comment here if there is some way you like me to get it to you. Thank you,

Hi! The piece is Siciliano by Bach. Here’s a video of Seymour playing it if you are interested, and thank so much for watching th-cam.com/video/KCaw2dX1uZE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ANOxUv4p4C9IIt8O

Thank you :) And unfortunately not. I reduced the background static noise levels as much as I could when editing, but couldn't denoise further without distorting the quality. If you recommend a software I'd be happy to take a crack at it again

Thank you Andrew, so much for this wonderful interview of Seymour Bernstein, who’s so deep. I am so glad I came across it. And update, if you all SB fans haven’t seen it, in Seymour’s Happy New Year (published just days ago) he says Kissin did finally play an original piece. I watch all his videos and send the links usually just to all my students. But this I am sending to my brother, as he also loves and feeds chipmunks and believes in the soul (about 46:55-49:35) just the was Seymour does. ❤

Really nice interview of an interesting individual. You seemed a bit awestruck or a bit nervous, I could be reading it wrong. But it was really calming, I especially like how you let him speak and not cut him off. The questions were also insightful.

    • @andrewcheek6391

A touch nervous at first, perhaps. Seymour is a long-time friend so I wanted to do justice to his art and life. In his memoir, Seymour writes about nervousness and says as performers or musicians, etc., nerves are a natural part of the process. We shouldn't be ashamed, but can feel confident in our preparations and hours practicing, knowing we are supported. I paraphrase of course. Thank you, and thrilled to hear you got something out of the interview. -Andrew

It's ok you seem introverted a bit but your charisma shines through which works well with Seymour's engaging yet reserved personality. He is a spiritual person without trying to be spiritual and that means he's the real deal. I think I might watch it again in a few days. Thank you again.

These past years of "lock down '' have, perhaps, helped me. I live alone. I do not go to work or to the gym or out to cafes or classes. Days go by when I don't speak face to face with anyone. I often ignore the news media. It's just ME in my studio where I draw and paint. Pascal said that all of our miseries derive from our inability to sit quietly in a room. Wordsworth wrote "The world is too much with us.... Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers" Many great artists and thinkers have benefited from periods of isolation. Sometimes voluntary. Sometimes as a result of illness or imprisonment. We waste our powers with distractions. This forced disconnection from the daily round of busy-ness might turn out to be a blessing.

Renzo, I'm so glad you enjoyed this interview and feel the similarly about creative solitude. Best of luck with your artworks. If you're curious, Seymour's TH-cam channel is filled with videos if you're looking for more inspiration and some music, too. Thanks again.
