The other day I was listening to "The Analogues", doing a superb job of Beatle covers. I was so inspired I had to have go.... I've always been fascinated by the John Lennon/ Beatles song and lyrics, "Across the Universe". I already had a backing track and I spent a very pleasant day recording the vocals. In 1963 I was 17 and was lucky enough to get to be lead singer of a local “beat group”, known as The Deltones (UK). My inspirations then (amongst many others) were Ben E King, Buddy Holly, and of course Arthur Alexander. This is my homage to him - he was truly a great singer and songwriter.

This song featured on the immortal Bob Dylan album "The Times They are a-Changin" in 1964. Brian Ferry covered it in his superb 2007 album called "Dylanesque", Really enjoyed doing this amazing song, the meaning still not lost even today, 43 years later. This song started with a simple ascending/descending run played over an equally simple chord structure that seemed to work really well..... so I worked on an upbeat melody for it and everything just fell into place. It was an exercise in under-production (hard for me!) I kept everything as simple as possible putting some harmonies on the bridge part and a tad double tracking on the main vocal. ...

It's amazing how a new keyboard inspires you to write new songs. This started life as an instrumental because I was really taken by the guitar sounds on it, but then I ended up humming a little tune over it.... so.... it became a song with vocal. Drive by The Cars, from 1984. Rarely does a song come along with such pathos, especially when it was featured in "Live Aid" in 1985. I just happened on this Reggae version by Ziggy Marley from 2004. It's such a beautiful version that I was tempted to have a go at it. It still weaves its magic and is so fitting 36 years later as our wonderful health workers, especially those in our local hospita...

Sunday 14th July 2019 Conditions looked good, no rain and a mild easterly wind, perfect for another flight over the Toddbrook Reservoir. Little did I know this would be the last time I would see the reservoir with its boats and dinghys in these idyllic conditions because Mother Nature was going to move in and change things drastically, especially for the residents of Whaley Bridge.

Take 2 3 years later it's still there in all it's majesty. This time conditions were good, a little late in the day so the sun was a bit low and the gulls were very active, had my fingeres crossed they wouldn't take me out! DJI Mavic Pro

A perfect day for a fly along the sea shore - shown in real time. There was a slight breeze out to sea so stayed close to the shore line. Video from DJI Mavic Pro, apart from topping and tailing video completely untouched.
