My Husband helps on his own, and when I'm ready to clean I ask/tell him what I need and he will do it. I do 50/50, we have similar incomes, it doesn't make any sense not to, unless one of you is making significantly more money than the other.

When everyone is broke, it makes sense. However, imo if a couple is considering 50/50 with finances, it should be 75/25 or 80/20. A man will only go 50/50 with finances. Everything else is on the woman. Now I'd rather be single since I am a top earner as a woman. I refuse to be the provider of a household when I know dang well I'll still be taking care or the house and kids more than him.

My boyfriend takes it as an insult if I use my own money when I’m with him, he made a remark and said to me “why you using your own money in my house?…. Oh you miss independent” I said oh sorry I just thought it was a small purchase I could use my cash and he looked at me as to say don’t do that and so I took his card to go to the store. He gets stressed at times and I feel helpless cos I know he wouldn’t want me to do anything except be there for him emotionally etc… sometimes he will give me his last, he’s very traditional but he wouldnt want 50/50 even if hes struggling a bit… He would also get upset if I don’t ask him for money when I need it and I would say “but you going through some things” and he would laugh and say “if you need anything please ask!”

My mom and step dad have been married for 17 years. My parents couldn’t be more opposite in many ways, my dad is an extrovert who loves to joke around and is really squeamish, my mom is an introvert who acts like a robot and is a farm girl aka ready for anything, physical or gross. My dad isn’t intellectually curious and a perfectionist whereas my mom is always exploring the world around her and is kinda go with the flow when things go wrong. But they have a really healthy marriage. They have separate friends, though both friend groups are more than happy to hang out with spouses around. They don’t often argue, but when they have conflict, they step away and if they both have a lot on their plates that week, they reschedule the discussion to a week when they are less busy. This gives them time to think over the problem and approach the discussion with less emotions. If a few discussions can’t clear up the conflict, then they go to marriage counseling. Everyone thinks marriage counseling is only for the last step before divorce, but it is actually a tool for helping moderate conflicts in a healthy marriage. They also have date night once a week (or every other week). My dad is obsessed with my mom’s attractiveness (can’t stop himself from wolf-whistling her, even in front of me). They both have problems with each other but they are open to talking and embracing the quirks that makes them who they are. Also, my grandparents on my mom’s side have been married for 63 years, and they are very similar. Both nothing alike, but very open to their partners, willing to see them for their strengths and their flaws.
