Letter from Wendell Phillips in Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Narrated by Greducator
This is Greducator’s narration of the full text of the Letter from Wendell Phillips, Esq., found after the Preface in the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, published in 1845 by Frederick Douglass (1818-1895). Text available for free at www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/23/pg23-images.html. Narration may be used, with attribution, for non-commercial educational purposes only.
Frederick Douglass was born under enslavement in Maryland, U.S.A., and endured cruelty and oppression under his enslavers until he escaped farther north to a free life as a young man. He became a respected American writer, lecturer, and statesman, who advocated for the abolition of slavery, for racial equality, and for women's rights.
Please note: The text of this book contains a few instances of a racial slur for Black people; replaced in the narration, whenever encountered, by "n-word." The book contains also the word "negro," (not the Spanish pronunciation, but rather the American English pronunciation, meaning "Black person") which, because it was considered respectful at the time, remains intact in the narration. However, please be aware that the word "negro" is no longer considered appropriate for everyday use. Neither is the word "colored" acceptable for describing Black people outside of historical contexts in American English.
Also note, this book relates graphic themes, quotations and events in relation to the practice of slavery and its attendant cruelties.

was great to discover your spoken word version of the 1840's Fredrick Douglas narative. Is only the 9th Chapter available for acess? I find the entire work entralling, and riveting. Would love to see this done in it's entirety including Lydia Plaths introduction, & the William Lloid Garrison preface. Nevertheless; I appaud you on your endeavor, be encouraged!

Thanks for your compliments and encouragement! I narrated Frederick Douglass' first autobiography starting at Chapter 1, but have not yet narrated Lydia Plath's introduction nor Garrison's preface to that work. Now that you point that out, I will make an effort to do that when I'm done with my current project (which is narrating Douglass' second autobiography). To view playlists of works I have narrated or am working on, click the Greducator logo (the purple circle) next to this comment and click again to enter my channel. (The process may vary slightly based on the device you are using.) Once you enter my channel, "Greducator English;" click the tab that says "Playlists," and you will find an automatic playlist for each book I have narrated or am currently working on. Thanks for the appreciation. To your question, and I’m sure you agree: History is important no matter what people call it! Also, if you’re playing this to children, please be aware that there are some descriptions of violence. I’m not saying they shouldn’t listen, but that an adult may want to be aware and make a judgment based on the particular children in question.

that's exactly what historians report that he was trying to convey in his photos; dignity, power, determination, accomplishment. Fredrick Douglas was famous for not smiling in his pictures, he viewed that expression as overly friendly!
