What's up with that HELL IS REAL sign? | September 29, 2024
มุมมอง 91วันที่ผ่านมา
The "HELL IS REAL" sign on I-71 North headed towards Columbus has been standing for twenty years this year. It's gained near-mythical status in the Midwest for its stark message and its bold lettering. It doesn't cut corners. It doesn't offer much hope of redemption in its evangelism. It's a real attention-grabber. Listen to Rev. Jason Oden discuss the sign: "Today's Gospel has a liiiiiittle bi...
Start Seeing Motorcycles | September 22, 2024

How come drivers so rarely see bikers and motorcyclists? Once you start seeing motorcycles because someone called them to your attention, it's hard to NOT notice them, but it does take someone pointing them out to you. ...But what does that have to do with Jesus?

But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. - 1.Timotheus 2,12 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. - 1.Korinther 14,34

We are grateful for an opportunity to respond to this comment. We do not check comments very often, and we apologize for letting this one go for so long. 1) Scholars agree that 1 Timothy was not written by Paul. It is considered one of the "Pseudo-Pauline" letters, written in Paul's name, but not written by Paul himself. If you are trying to invoke the authority of St. Paul on the role of men and women in church leadership, this is not the right passage to do it. 2) Paul worked closely with several women in the early church, including his traveling companion Priscilla (Acts 18:26), the apostle Junia (Romans 16:7), his coworkers Euodias and Syntyche (Phil. 4:2-3), and the deacon and church leader Phoebe (Roman 16:1-2) who Paul specifically commended and applauded for her leadership. The idea that Paul was against female leadership in the church is nonsensical. 3) 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 is often taken out of context, as it is here. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11 that women are welcome to pray and prophesy the same as their male counterparts, and are given the same expectations for doing so as their fellow men. In the Corinthian letters, Paul is calling them to order-- giving them instructions on improving their worship discipline. He observed that those present were speaking over each other, and engaging in laleō-- the Greek word for speaking or chattering, not the Greek word for preaching. Paul recommends that instead of interrupting worship services with talking, the women (and other audience members involved, as he calls out several demographics) wait until they are home to have their questions answered. He was not chiding their speaking so much as he was chiding their timing. Paul was making an appeal to the Corinthians' own sense of social propriety and encouraging them to hold their tongues in the formal church services. Addressing a specific situation is significantly different than making a blanket prohibition on women being church leaders. 4) Rev. Nancy is a phenomenal teacher and preacher, and a woman of the cloth through and through. We fully support her leadership as well as the leadership of all the other women who have enriched the kingdom of God on earth. We hope you will find it within yourself to open your heart to the wonderful messages that women of the cloth-- past, present, and future-- have to offer our wonderful faith traditions. Thank you!

This video is lovely. Very effective, and well done. I have been member of IHC since 1975, and it is wonderful to see so many young families joining and contributing, making our entire congregation stronger. I am away for 6 months, and involved in a wonderful church in Florida, but the Indian Hill Church will always be my "home".

The US claims 'we the people' are free to live the US dream why do Native Am still live on reservations? They can live wherever in the US they please and be treated as sh!t like all the other non-whites living in this racist country.

Hard to hear, please make the volume louder. Perhaps recording the message in a less echoing room such as the library would be better.
