First settled in the 1800's, Artesia sits in the heart of the Pecos River Valley in the SE corner of New Mexico. Farmers were first attracted to the area by plentiful artesian water wells. Artesia's Walking Tour kicks off at the Visitor's Center which is housed inside the old train depot. Take a step back in time to the 1880's when the train first started taking passengers through the state. Next time you are in Artesia, stop in and put a pin in our visitor map and see the historical land mark for yourself.
