Bohemian Mermaid
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 25 ต.ค. 2011
Welcome to my Bohemian Mermaid club house. Here I share my creative craft tutorials, patterns and projects. Starting with crochet Beer Can Hats because of course! Also crochet garden art, bead crochet jewelry, weird mannequin art, snarky embroidery, upcycled clothing. That's a good start.
Sharing a bit of my life and misc as well. Gardens, pets, redwoods, etc.
Bohemian Mermaid was always my craft biz name, but I chose it to describe myself. Like, what kind of Mermaid are you? I'm an artsy, free living, deep water mermaid. I do things a little differently. So push the button and hang out, we're going to have a lot of fun.

Very Beautiful Design and colors are Gorgeous...your personality made it PERFECTION 👌🫶🌹
I WANTE TO.TANK YOU FOR MAKING MORNING EXTRA SPECIAL WITH YOUR FABULOUS CROCHET TECHNIQUE AND BUBBLY PERSONALITY.. MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU❤
This Is Amazing! 💜 Thank You So Much for the Tutorial 💜 Your Energy - Pure Joy 💜
❤😂love this🎉
When you are doing the second round what do you mean by "3 in the corners"? Are you doing three SCs in the cornder loop? Love your tutorials by the way, I'm making the hat my grandma made me in 1979!
I love this.
How do you get the crochet thread to be so smooth? Every time I attempt a beaded crochet necklace the chain ends up being twisted and kinky. Thank you.
Yes, good question. I pull the chain taut a few times, that helps a lot. You can pull hard, it’s very strong. Also the weight of the larger beads makes it hang nicely vs using just tiny ones. Good luck! 💜🧜🏼♀️
@@bohemianmermaid thank you.
Years ago (I'm 84.), the steel hooks were for cotton thread, and the lettered hooks were for yarn.
Omg i love you 🎉❤🎉
These are so very pretty 😍
hi! i was wondering could i sell the hats i make with this pattern?
Hi, thanks for asking! Yes of course, make and sell them. I would love if you could give me credit for the designs though. And definitely charge enough for your time! For real. 🙌🏼💜🧜🏼♀️
Love the cowboy/cowgirl hat. Was curious what is the measurements of the cans after they are cut.
i really like it.
This would be so cool mixed with paper beads too. That's what I'm going to try.
Ugh. I have been trying to get a clean cut on my cans.
The yarn will cover it pretty well.
Thank you so much for the inspiration. I put a little coconut shell flower button at the joining ends. It's pretty and somewhere to finish the ends under. ❤
Lovely, what a great idea. 🙌🏼💜🧜🏼♀️
This hat would look so cool made from monster energy drink cans
Hey, me and my Mum were just talking about these! She says that beer can crochet hats were popular in the 70s!
Beautiful! Do the granny wheels hold up for a while? Will you still do a tutorial?
Yes it’s still on my list! They hold up great actually, they do get aged aka dirty outside. I hose them off, spray vinegar for mildew (I live on the coast). I love them!
First off, I love your hat! I watched this as I wanted to make one for a friends 60th birthday. I would have preferred you explained each step of what you where doing in the video instead of just talking about your opinions and views of everything. You might want to watch your video back and listened to how many times you use the words I and me......just saying your video might get more views and likes if you change that. Cheers
I have at least 10 full tutorials on my channel. This was just a quick crochet to watch while I talk about “Why I Love Beer Can Hats” as the title says. You might be less disappointed if you read titles before watching ME and MY videos, which I make about whateverthehell I like. Carry on. 😎🙄🫶🏼🖕🏼
Never paid much attention to beer-can hats, but a friend of mine's been getting requests and wanted to know how to deal with the can edges. So I looked around and found this. I started linking the cans together, and at five cans, didn't think the crown was big enough, so I ran an extra row around the last can (fortunately, that was the "front and center" one) for a bit more circumference. That should have added 3-4 stitches to the top, but I ended up a whole can short when I tried to join the top, so I had to add another round to the top to get the stitches to match (so I lost my "crease"). then I wanted a bit more of a brim, so I added two rounds. Take two, I'm probably going to use a smaller hook for a stiffer brim and see if I can eke out a little more height out of the side cans (and maybe stagger the "shorts") to get a more natural crease on top. (and for some bizarre reason, my comment got added to a bunch of commments for a different video, even though this one was on top.)
Yeah it is actually 6 labels as I say/show in the video.
@@bohemianmermaid I'm saying the top, made as described, only had enough stitches to match up with five labels' worth of the crown. I wore it to my painting group to show it to the crocheter that's been getting requests from family to do beer-can buckets (she wondered how to deal with the edges of the cans), then I went to the library where I got an unsolicited comment about it. (At the time I made it, the only cans in the recycling bag were Seattle Cider Company "Dry" cans, which I find amusing, since the stitching covers the "hard cider", so people could easily get the wrong meaning)
@@wendygoerl9162 lol. I still must disagree, it all fits if you follow the part about decreasing the top edge of the crown. The pattern is also available in my shop. Zero issues in 2 years. But great job making it work!
What does “between the increases” mean?
The number of stitches from one increase to the next.
Beautiful 🐬 love how you showed working through the challenges ! That’s Life 🥰
This is lovely. Thank you
Great tutorial. I have to do this one for sure. Thanks.😊
Just what I have been looking for !!!
Cute! Love bohemian looks! TFS
Love the hats. I found your channel after I purchased a beer can hat pattern from Etsy. This pattern turned out to be a photo copy of a pattern from a book from the 70’s so it’s really hard to read. Also, it suggests that you line the beer cans with some sort of plastic. It suggested a used bleach container. I assume this is because the cans could get hot in the sun. Have you found this to be a problem? I’m making the hat for my son to wear to a summer party up in Northern California (Chico State) it tends to get hot AF there. It will be his 21st birthday so I want to make sure he doesn’t burn the crap out of his head if he gets too drunk to take it off 😂🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🍻🍺
Ugh I have seen that pattern, I need to list my patterns there. Honestly I wouldn’t line them, they’re fine. The hot part is the yarn. One alternative is to use that plastic raffia, a little funkier but waterproof and stiffer. A customer showed me that with my cowboy hat pattern. Fun!! 🧜🏼♀️💜
I just had a flashback of when I was a little kid. My mom & Gramma used to make these. So I went online to find a pattern. Thank you very much for sharing this. I'm gonna have to try it.
You have convinced me to try this. Looking for thread now
You are great! I was laughing along with you. I am looking for a new craft to try while I sell my clothes at the Farmers Markets this Summer. I will be thinking of you …. Thanks sooo much for the video ❤
Haha great! Oh did I mention…? 🤣 You go, keeping the dream alive 🙌🏼💜🧜🏼♀️ Have fun out there.
I love it! Thank you so much.
Thank you for modeling the necklace!!! Too many skip this step.
Looks like im buying yarn and beer on door on my grocery list tomorrow . I hate how i am addicted to hobbies tyatvi never finish except the beer drinking here is pro tip i love when i can combine hobbies to be more efficient .thank u lol .
😆 Hey you gotta keep busy right?? I’m here for ya 💜🧜🏼♀️
Thanks for the pattern! I did find it easier to use a can opener on the top before cutting down the side of the can.
Ah nice tip! You are so wecome 🙌🏼💜🧜🏼♀️
Lovely!
How cool is this! 😎🤯
Fined some Christmas themed cans and make these Santa hats :D
Yes! So perfect right?? 🤣🙌🏼 th-cam.com/video/p2g_u4smTgY/w-d-xo.html
How have I never seen these before?!? AWESOME!!!
Thank you so much for this video!! I have very sensitive skin too, and it's a real problem for me, because I like to wear necklaces. You're my savior! ❤❤❤
So I absolutely love your video and so happy that I came across it. I did purchase some number 10 crochet thread via Amazon because I live on an island in Alaska. I feel like my thread looks so much thinner than yours. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m hoping that it works out. Your stuff is beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this art with us.
Thanks! It is very tiny, hope you have fun 🙌🏼💜🧜🏼♀️
Loved the necklace.

The full written crochet pattern is now posted in my shop! Thanks to all who requested it, hope you have fun. payhip.com/BohemianMermaid
Love this pattern. Is there a way for me to print the instructions?
Yes. Open a text file while the video is playing. Type in each step as she says it. Save your file, and print it. Alternatively buy the pattern from her Etsy shop and print that.
Thanks so much for posting this. Will send pic when done!
Do you happen to have a tutorial of an open necklace that you can just wrap around for several layers or just cross tie on? My mother used to make them when i was younger using gold thread and i would love to try them.
🤔 hm. If I understand you right, this video should work. 😎🧜🏼♀️
@@bohemianmermaid thank you for responding. I'll watch it again.
i made so many of these in the 70’s!!!
My second ever beer can crochet hat was this pattern and it was SO fun to make and it looked great! The pattern was worth every penny!
Boom! Awesome hat and tutorial. Thank you for posting🤙🏾
