If anyone else besides the Dead could give this song the love and care it deserves, it would be these guys.
Thinking of all who I have lost. RIP
Fare you well my honey Fare you well my only true one All the birds that were singing Have flown except you alone Going to leave this broke-down palace On my hands and my knees I will roll, roll, roll Make myself a bed by the waterside In my time, in my time, I will roll, roll, roll In a bed, in a bed By the waterside I will lay my head Listen to the river sing sweet songs To rock my soul River gonna take me Sing me sweet and sleepy Sing me sweet and sleepy All the way back back home It's a far gone lullaby Sung many years ago Mama, mama, many worlds I've come Since I first left home Going home, going home By the waterside I will rest my bones Listen to the river sing sweet songs To rock my soul Going to plant a weeping willow On the banks green edge it will grow, grow, grow Sing a lullaby beside the water Lovers come and go, the river roll, roll, roll Fare you well, fare you well I love you more than words can tell Listen to the river sing sweet songs To rock my soul Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Jerry Garcia / Robert Hunter
(It was filmed the DAY Phil Lesh died. They started their concert with this, that evening. They are SO fantastic.)
Worthy my heroes worthy. ❤
Nice!
Who’s the bass player dude? Was he just a guest that night or is he touring with them? I’m going to see them next month, and was hoping it was just the two of them. Not that that would ruin my enjoyment, though
@@jessepoole106 Paul Kowert (Hawktail and Punch Brothers)
@@joykillssorrow8411 It definitely sounds good here, gives low-quality recording weight to their capoed guitars. It makes sense too, as it's a tribute to a bass player that died.
I saw them sing this in Athens Ga way back in 2006 and haven't found a recording of them doing it until now. The performance back then was spine-tingling, pure magic
This makes me cry for all that we have lost. We will meet again at the jubilee.❤❤❤❤
The stand up bass❤
💗
An ocean of tears and smiles, smiles, smiles
I went shopping for a new shirt with David and our friend Toulouse Engelhardt one day years ago. Very entertaining afternoon. If it had strings David could crush it.
So great to hear Malcomb being covered. I count myself very lucky to have seen Malcomb twice here in Canada and got to chat with him. RIP Malcomb, and thanks Gillian and David.
Agreed! We were lucky to have seen him perform and to chat with him. Malcolm was not only talented; he was a kind and gentle soul.
AWESOME!
Viva Phil!
So beautifully heart felt. Rip Phil Lesh
Thanks for this ! I love these guys and a cool take on a classic song is even better !!
sweet as can be and the sound of that guitar is old and rare, her voice is like a Boone NC running stream in summer!.
Peace forever Phil, may your journey into the great beyond be glorious. Thank you.
And, thank you Gillian and Dave 😢 wonderful version
I sang this song for my sister last Monday, as I was driving home from Eugene, having said my final farewell and goodbye. A good and great sister, she turned me onto the Dead in '69. I cried the whole back to SF. This song always makes me cry. Now Phil can sing to her. Love and miss you, Katy
🙏
I started crying this morning hearing I'll Fly Away by Gillian and David, and the tears continued with this. It was a powerful moment with my two girls. This music is nearly impossible to explain to those who don't get it. 😢
Condolences ❤

So moving......beautiful tribute..
❤ perfect
Delicious. Thank you .
brings tears to my eyes to see Makcolm acknowledged by these artilts
❤❤❤
Thanks for posting! I went the night before. When I heard Phil died Friday, I knew they would play something for him. I predicted “He’s Gone”, but this is fantastic.
Thanks Bill and Linda!
You’re welcome!
❤️ Thanks for capturing this moment.
A beautiful tribute.
Crowded and noisy Barley's Tap Room in Knoxville - Malcolm put his head down and started pounding that Martin Shenandoah guitar. One-by-one people would stop talking and start listening and before long you could hear a pin drop in that bar. I heard him do this many times. He was a prophet.
Beautiful tribute to Phil. You two are so great.
Thank you for such beauty. Goodbye Phil, and thanks man.
BEAUTIFUL RIP PHIL NFA
Beautiful…thank you 🌹❤️🩹

Malcolm's songs will forever be alive.
Such a beautiful song. ❤️
Such an amazing cover of Malcolm’s masterpiece.
The real deal, as real as it gets... Fare thee well, Phil and may the four winds blow you safely home.
Beautiful song from Malcolm ❤❤❤
Always a class act.
