    How was the DI box being used in this scenario? Did you go Mixer -> DI -> PA/interface or DI -> Mixer -> PA/interface? And is it something you regularly use for the sake of your sound or just for live purposes as a way of interfacing with the venue's audio system? A lot of the info I can find about DI boxes is in the context of more typical guitar setups (and assume the pedal chain is going into the venue's mixer along long cables), so I'm curious how this kind of thing works when you're already using a mixer as part of the performance, or with non-traditional routings. I do pedal/mixer feedback noise stuff myself but I've never used a DI box.

    • @bryskt
      @bryskt หลายเดือนก่อน

      I tend to avoid using a mixer for my gigs unless it's absolutely necessary, as I'm fiercely lazy when it comes to carrying gear with me, but I once found that a DI box can be super valuable as all venues don't have other plugin options than XLR. So the DI box at the end of the signal chain is mostly to give me an XLR out into the house PA system. However it does have two quite useful features being an active DI box. It has a Cab simulator which does give some added grit to the overall sound. It also has a few different loudness settings so I can make the signal hotter or quieter depending on what is needed. Anyway, to cap this off, I have a DI box with me for almost every gig, it comes between my Output and the house mixer Input. It can kill some unwanted grounding buzz and also works as an adapter incase the house mixer only takes XLR. Hope you found an answer inbetween my rambling writings 😅

      No worries. for stereo stuff I use a passive DI box that was around 50€ back in the day. The mono one is a cheap clone of Mooers mini pedal DI box. Have fun! ☺️

    Can you explain the y-cable function here. I see the out from the reverb feeding back to the delay but how does the out from the slicer part of the y-cable interact. Does it end up basically mixing the reverb and slicer out and feeding back to the delay?

    • @bryskt
      @bryskt หลายเดือนก่อน

      No worries. I always try to reply to any questions I receive. I had to go back and see what I've actually done Based on how I have done the connections on plug is connected to an output, so the Y-cable just sends the same input signal forward to the two inputs they are connected to which means that the signal starts to feedback as one input is before the output, the other input takes the signal forward in the path ie. after the output if you think about the signal chain in a linear matter (which it is 😅). Hope this makes some sense.

      @bryskt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cheers, Sadly I don't have a diagram and just figured it out. with that said, you just need to solder the light dependent resistor between the tip connections on the plugs. and normally connect a ground wire between the ring connections on the plugs.

      Sorry to hear you have problems with this. 😔 It's only a tip to tip connection with the LDR and barrel to barrel ground wire, so there shouldn't be many issues with that. Not at all sure what to advice you as this worked for me fine first time around so I have no idea where to start troubleshooting. I bought a batch of different LDRs and tested first with a temporary setup which one sounded best to me with just blacking out the LDR with my finger. I think they might be 30k-90k , but don't quote me on that as I also tested with 16k-50k, 8k-20k, 5k-10k and 2k-6k.

    I am new to this stuff, what power supply you use for your pedals? are there things to keep in mind while buying a power supply?

    • @bryskt
      @bryskt 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends much on the situation. Running just a few pedals I might have individual 9v powersupplies. Sometimes I may even daisychain them. I also have a Mooer micro power but that one doesn't have isolated outputs. Mostly you should be aware that the cheap ones don't necessarily have isolated power outs which might cause trouble for some pedals. Right now I'm really happy with Palmer powersupplies from Germany.

    • @bryskt
      @bryskt 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Both models work just fine and are amazing taking into account the price point. I have both and switch around depending on which I happen to grab first, or if I have a need for more or less channels. The 802 has 6 channels + stereo AUX return 1002 has 10 channels. So for the 1002 you have to use one of the stereo channels for FX return, but for me it isn't an issue as I often do that anyway. The 1002 has a master volume fader while the 802 has a pot. So not sure if the differences ammount to too much, mostly how many channels you need and how much you want to spend on the mixer. I've had mine for years and used both of them on numerous gigs and recordings.

      That sounds like great fun! I have done some trials with samples and field recordings but haven't been too interested in incorporating that myself. Still great stuff, hope you find something that really resonates with you from your trials.

    Great work. I started out grabbing old audio gear I had lying around. A turntable, old radios, a bag of leads from a charity shop, an old multi channel cheap dj mixer, a dictaphone, and a couple of the cheapest carboot pedals. You're only limited with your imagination. Pick up a pair of scissors and a screw driver, make some tape loops. Pick up a soldering iron, knock up your custom cables, switching/patching box, passive no input mixer. That skill becomes part of your art. You also learn a shed load of theory and tech that will help you further your work. Ive bought, accumulated and built 50 pedals over the years now. I still dont play a guitar, lol. Great to see a Slow Motion being used, I had one for years, couldn't get on with it, just goes to show how personal and unique everyones output is, even in the noise genre.

      Thanks a lot for your comment. Really good insights and your gear sounds amazing! I really love the low end and obscure stuff, sadly in Finland the 2nd hand market isn't super good according to my experience.

    A bit harsh on the ears…😋 I play with pedals myself and find that a single pedal with stereo in/out, looped upon itself makes it easy to control the feedback. I have just ordered the Boss sl-2 and I have had great success with Boss ps-3. Keep up the noize🤘

    • @bryskt
      @bryskt ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it tends to turn a bit on the harsh side for me often. Sorry, not sorry. 😁 It's fun what you can do with stereo pedals. I don't have too many Boss pedals, but the PS-3 seems like a bunch of fun. I need to look into that. Hope you have fun with the SL-2, I at least find it highly inspirational.

      Wheres the musical application on these?

    • @bryskt
      @bryskt ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, not sure what you mean. I just show possibilities for making noise music with different devices, so for more melodic or "musical application" I think there are much better channels to investigate that aspect.

      Thank you so much! camera angle is a bit off, but that's the magic of live recordings 😁

  • @aliceautomated

    Each album I recorded would also be my live set up. I would map out each routing on paper, this being before cellphones had better cameras. I would then use that until the next recording I did. Sometimes this would change month to month, sometimes a live/recorded set up would last almost half a year. Since it was all improvised, no matter the longevity of the set up, each live outing would be unique still.

      Thanks so much for sharing. It's great to hear about different ways people set up and do things. It's great when there are not just 1 correct way to do things and sometimes even the wrong way leads to interesting results. I usually build a new setup for each gig to keep it fresh for myself.

      @@bryskt Yes, each person’s workflow is their own, and definitely unique to them getting and end result. What works for you in the end is the best practice.

      This is a brilliant insight to possible viewers who aren't that well versed in the process. My way is by no means correct or the only way, but someone who doesn't know where to start can pick up an idea and go forward from there. I try to emphasize that people should try things and take hold of the elements that work for them. Thanks again for your valuable insights! 🙏

    Nice work! I like playing with the vintage delay pedal too. Although I often use behringer's overdrive/distortion model looped into itself as the main sound source.
