I wish the specials were more easily available in cherry burst. I prefer that. I do have an Epiphone GT, which is a variation on the special, and I love it. I replaced the pickups with humbuckers from an Epiphone DOT and I think it sounds fantastic.

I have tele with a strat neck and p90 in a humbucker size. That is a good choice.

Me and my band supported Chris Shiflett on his solo tour a few years ago, and I was lucky enough to gear-nerd with him a bit before the show. He played two of his signature Telecasters with P90s. Incredible guitars. Fender Custom Shop.

Nice guitar. Ide have put a Les Paul special type pickgaurd on it, and the covers look great. Great bargain for 100 sobs.

Looks good! I did the exact model to mine. Except i soldered the covers to the back of the humbuckers and taped the unexposed magnets to apply a couple small dots of silicone to avoid feedback from the vibration.

I just picked up a 95 Mexican tele for $375 off local FB Marketplace. Think I stole it

I’m installing P90’s on mine, and a set of PRS tuners. I bought it for $10 with a warped neck that I fixed already.

I got mine for under 11 bucks, with a warped neck. I thought I had to find another neck, but I was able to fix it, and I never had a better guitar. Usually I fight my other guitars, this one is easy to play.

For the price this guitar sounds great. Change the pickups and it sounds incredible. Definitely one of the best, if not the best, budget electric guitars on the market.

I got one of these recently in black, pre-owned but unplayed - still in the box with the peel off plastic on the pickups. I expected to immediately change out the pickups and even bought a set in anticipation, but shockingly mine had NO microphonic squeal, even cranked loud with high gain and a boost pedal into that. The action was high so I anticipated having a bunch of problems when I lowered it, but...I did and there were no buzzes or problems. Two strings need the intonation set, but that's it. I have about 30 electrics currently including some upper end ('82 Gibson Les Paul Custom silverburst, 1960 Classic Gibson LP, etc.) and have owned maybe 300 guitars total. Just a note on experience level / instrument familiarity.

Great seeing your mods. Something that I've done with a couple of my Ibanez ARC guitars - I had techs make a custom pickguard and put it on "reverse" - meanin the broad end near the cutaway. I was concerned about that because so many folks are "sticklers" for "vintage" spec, though I've actually come to not even notice and almost prefer it. Whatever works - you have yours cooking.
