Being Portsmouth born and bred... the place is a shell of what it once was... it's now a ghost town in terms of commerce and trade, and basically just a student campus

Looking to move to the island as things are becoming unaffordable on the coast, I hope this talk of crime in the comments isn't as bad as saskia says it is.

Jon sounds like horses hooves! Sandown like upper-Ryde and Newport has lots of decaying buildings. Don't look for help from the wasteful IoW council, who are "bankrupt" despite the standard 5% double inflation CT rise.

OMG THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH FOR THIS!!! Ventnor was always my Favourite place on the island! Isle of Wight always offered such a great work-life balance, I used to spend a Lot of my days off chilling out in Ventnor, on the beach, at The Spyglass Inn Pub, walking around between Bonchurch and Steephill Cove. Such a Beautiful part of the world!

I spent so much time in Sandown back when I lived in Yaverland up the cliff at the Chalet Park. Around 2007-08

Out of all the towns on the Island I think Sandown is the most depressing it’s in dire need of a complete rebuild at this point

What’s happening to Wellington Way? Waterlooville doesn’t have a train station like Petersfield (north) Cosham, (south) Fareham, (west) Havant (east) Residents who don’t drive only have one option, which is using buses. The town centre has effectively moved down to the retail park where Sainsbury’s is. Larger shop units instead of tiny ones only suitable for hairdressers, etc.

Sure looks different to the place I grew up in, back in the 80s and 90s that place was packed, bustling with life, now it looks dead, lifeless. Even the people dont seem to have the same buzz about them that they had back then. Sad to see.

i remember the days when commercial rd was packed ' you couldn't move down there & strange as it seems ' that was before they built cascades ' nxt time mate ' take a stroll on a council astate ' there alot better now ' u can park a bmw sports on them now ' without it having a police aware sign on the windscreen ' or missing a few wheels ' or just missing in general ' yet the jolly motorist are still fkin complaining 🤣

lovely place,backwards attitude and corrupt police spoil it,so i left the island..............lots of crime and it ALWAYS goes unsolved,police think they are above the law unfortunately,they lie and partner with criminals..that was my experience anyway ! Great video though,so thank you x

I dont think this looked too bad compared with the majority of places. I'd go so far to say that outside of London, there are few cities and towns that have not seen Austerity taking its toll. It's unavoidable 😢

I like these videos. Gunwharf keys was previously HMS Vernon (Royal Navy Torepdo & Mine training school). During the video you still see references to artifacts left behind of the old site. At ~11:37 Jon walks towards the pub called 'The Old Custom House' which is an original build that was previously the Administrative block and to the left at 11:46 is the old HMS Vernon Masthead.

I've seen steadier videos of Michael J Fox wanking on horseback. However. I appreciate the effort and respect that you chose to upload this metropolistic opus.

I used to stay with my nan for my school summer holidays. (she lived a bit further out of town than where that vid starts) and made that walk down to the sea front almost every day (and go and play around in puckpool park) It hasn't really changed very much from those days..late 50's to 60's. Perfectly recognisable.

Great..Thank u!.. Used to live exactly there, 1997-2002. I'm sorry to see that a general decline..and crisis is really evident!..big difference from that time.. Hope you make more videos.. Would love to see from HSBC to City Hall and beyond, through the park and up to the Uni Library, and maybe around the old Milton University Campus..
