Liam Devally - Munster Love Song
มุมมอง 6K15 ปีที่แล้ว
Liam Devally recorded a number of albums for different labels between the early 1950s and the mid-1970s, some as a solo artist, some with The Irish Festival Singers or The Young Lindsays. He also released a number of singles. This version of Munster Love Song is taken from a crackly 45rpm on the Glenside label, the recording branch of Walton's Music (of 'If you want to sing a song, sing an Iris...

The below version is significantly better in my opinion. Thought I'd link it since it has so few views. th-cam.com/video/_xkbbl02vRw/w-d-xo.html

GREAT STUFF INDEED, FROM ANOTHER LIAM, THE LISTENER.
thank you for keeping this man's voice alive and to the two people who disliked this $$$$$$$$$$$ Philistines One of my all time favourite songs.
So beautiful and soulful. Thanks for posting.
😮xdawwaaaaaaaaa
What a glorious voice! And he sings this song like an angel. Too bad we have so few memories of him.
If it was now things would be so different. .a golden voice rest in peace
Scrumptious so lovely
Thanks for reply.
I think it is my aunt Blaithín Reynolds. It sounds to me the same recording that was on an 45rpm record, which also has a beautiful rendition of "An raibh tu ar an gcarraigh" with again Liam Devally singing and Blaithín Reynolds accompanying.
Beautiful and inspirational! A lesson in sweet simplicity!
Happy memories of Liam Devally, the love of the life of my dearest Aunt Patty, from Ballinasloe, Co Galway. Never met Mr Devally, but spoke to him on the phone once as a little girl, at Gretta & Patty's in Rathmines - must have been late 60's/early 70's. Such happy days :)
Liam is my Grandads brother, I had no idea that Liam was such a personality! His brother (my Grandad) and moved to England with Nana and children in the late 60's and Grandad Desmond passed away when I was five years old. I have no memory of ever meeting Liam. I am a singer, I wondered where I got it from and it turns out I can thank Liam DeVally and it is touching to read comments like this.
Was Liam a senior counsel //judge??
@@tomgreene6579 Yes, Tom, Liam was a barrister and be became a circuit judge after his career in the entertainment industry. Liam, R.I.P., was my Uncle and Godfather, highly intelligent, honest and loyal. He was always smiling, and was very entertaining. God rest his soul.
@@devally2432 Thanks for that.
Thank you for posting this. My memories of Liam are of the time he sang with Bill Hogarty (that's Bill with him in the slide show 1.20-1.30) at the club at Elm Park and other informal events. They were a great 'couple'. I always enjoyed their duets................the moon hath & the pearl fishers. They were great!
she is a good girl that sheep
sheep are very cute
sheep are clever not stupid
Nice rendition ....who is playing the harp?
Really great to year Liam again, I remember his stories of truly atrocious food in boarding school; cold sausages and marmalade, ugh. We discussed the Roman empire as a distraction after my father, Denis Meehan, passed on in 1969. He sang at a memorial for Denis with that great voice that held you; on the radio, in performance and presumably in court. Many thanks.
Watching this always makes me smile- I am so lucky to have come across it (much like I was lucky to come across the woman herself) :)
I have not seen sheep sheared in this style bofore meanign their legs tied and opening at the hip. Maybe a different style in the West of Ireland open at the neck, work down one side, turn the ewe over and finish the other side. Nice to see this video, preserves something which very few do nowaday, the hand shears has been replaced by the electric model.
A great voice that I have never heard before. And great pictures too :-)
Hey Liam Devally is my dad's uncle!!
Liam was my Dad's Brother. R.I.P.
God love, one and all! Happy Birthday, Mary McKeown - may you, your splendid family and friends celebrate many another - Best wishes from an ocean and three fourths another continent away: It is a wonderful world to see this!
Isn't it grand how each singer - intonation - voice - gives a special and unique grace - to this masterpiece? @Helldodger, deepest compliments to your Uncle! Hope you can tell him how magnificent others - an ocean apart - worldwide - find him! Thank you, Conhammck, for posting & with such excellent notes!
I so love this man,s voice thank you so much
Oh what a lovely rendition... thank you so very much for posting this! I've totally fallen for Liam Devally's voice and this song is already so beautiful itself. Simply wonderful...
Our wars were joyful and our songs were sad - few songs can squeeze a tear from my old soul but this one can and his rendering is prefect,
And yet another wonderful piece of my favourite Liam Devally... and a charming video! Thank you so very much! :D
