Hate and anger are not the antithesis of love. Apathy is. Octavia portrayed the complex emotions of a crappy family dynamic, from logically knowing she doesnt want her dad killed by her uncle. But simultaneously defending a boundary she has to set to heal. Yes, shes angry. Yes, she needs space. And she also cares for her father. If she didnt, why would she care that he, in her eyes, abandoned her. I find that scene a poetic mirror of apology tour and Stolas telling Blitzø to leave him alone. Not because they hate each other. In the moment, sure. But the fact theres still emotion means theres still love. Hence the sacrifice in Mastermind. From the surface, I could see Octavia being misconstrued as an inconsistent character. But scratching under the surface, it was really cathartic to see a character struggle in a realistic way. Not black or white, but fleshed out in all the shades of grey

Honestly, I think it kinda makes sense. Octavia's feeling a lot of different things at the moment. One one hand, she understands, at least to some degree, that her mom's a bitch---I mean, look at how she acted around Stella and Andre throughout the whole episode----and she also feels terrible for not knowing how much her father struggled and blames herself for his depression, and she loves him because, well, he's her dad. On the other hand, she feels betrayed, which is understandable because Stolas was fully ready to die for Blitzo in the last episode. All of this must be very confusing for her, especially since she's still technically a child and doesn't get a lot of say in the situation, but she definitely doesn't want Stolas to die, even if she's deeply hurt by him.

Octavia still loves her dad but I think she doesn't understand her mum is causing and doesn't he understand the abuse her mother has done to her father. She says she doesn't understand why he fell out of love with her mum bit doesn't realise that their marriage wasn't his choice it was forced.

I think the narrative is that Octavia still loves her dad, and so couldn't watch her uncle hurt him. However, that doesn't change the fact that from her perspective stolas deeply hurt her. Having your one role model, a father that you are incredibly close to end up forced out of your life whether it was their choice or not is hard to deal with, even for adults. For Via, I imagine it's more guilt that she either chose not to see her mother's abuse towards her dad or that she never realized how desperate he was to the point of needing medication. In the same sense, without a supportive parent at home she is now seeing her mother's true nature without it being filtered through stolas, and now that she's seen it she might feel resentful of her dad for essentially leaving her alone with such wicked people, and having no choice in the matter. Hopefully she can work through these feelings, but it depends on what vivziepop has planned for Stella's storyline and how it affects her daughter later.

Speaking from personal experience, It is so hard to try and be understanding with Octavia right now. I'm trying to look deep within myself to give Octavia the benefit of the doubt and remember she's still a teenager and isn't as rational as an adult. But she infuriates me. (Although the girl can sing! ) Her mother is openly being an abusive b*tch and doesn't give two sh*ts on how it affects Octavia. But she's pissed at Stolas and accused him of not loving her because he chose to have a relationship with Blitz and save Blitz from the fate of a rigged trial. Like are we as the audience supposed to interpret that as her being selfish? Was he the perfect parent? No but no one is ever going to be the perfect parent. Stolas tried so hard though. He was there for her all throughout her childhood. She's a few months away from being 18 and very well could see him if she wanted. But cutting him off over this seems so far left field to me. I viewed that scene and was like. "Oh you saved him so you could hurt him yourself huh?". A lot has changed in her life recently. I get that she now had to deal with Stella one on one without Stolas as a buffer, this is the first time in her life she has ever dealt with something difficult. This reaction to it though seems so over the top even for a spoiled teen. If I had a parent that was even half as loving and there for me like Stolas, I would want them to be happy too. I give her the benefit of the doubt about how she views Stolas' relationship with Blitz. Because since Stolas shielded her from practically everything, she sees Blitz as a homewrecker that stole her dad away. But like you said, is she really that oblivious that her mother is literally the worst? Like I remembered how much I acted out at her age and realize most of her actions are out of immaturity. From the outside looking in I really am trying to understand her point of view but either Octavia is just emotionally stunted or more like Stella than the audience understands. 🤷‍♀️ The one thing I am pissed off with Octavia for is her using Stolas' depression as a weapon and throwing it in his face. Figuratively and literally. Like girl that was so foul and so ugly of you. I guess it really struck a nerve since I also take antidepressants. I also lost a sibling to su*c*de so seeing her be an absolute self absorbed brat about Stolas' mental health left a gross taste in my mouth
