Proper way to use the "wind cupboard": When coming in, remove your shoes and then walk in. Remove jacket inside the house. As a host, if you have room beside the tuulikaappi door, in the main hallway.. get one small rug, the kind that is meant to be the first thing that people step in. Keep it at hand, you can lay it down fast and say "there is space for two pairs of shoes here".. That way you got 3 people removing shoes at the same time, that leaves maybe one or two guests who are waiting in line.. and if there is two of them, they both fit in.. The small rug actually fits 3 pairs of shoes so you can say that too "there is room for one more pair here, it seems"... Little bit of traffic control and you can maximize thruput with just one small rug that costs like 15€.

I am in Wisconsin, USA, and my maternal grandmother was Finnish. She died when I was 9 and all on that side have passed on long ago. My husband introduced the 2 blanket system to me, but we married both styles. We make our bed with a top sheet, a lightweight blanket and each have our duvets. I love the coolness of a top sheet. Just finding you in 2023.

I live in Canada and we have the same area at the door to the outside that you showed - it's to help keep out the cold, gives a good place to leave boots and it perfect for the dogs - it's just called a porch here in Nova Scotia and most houses have them. Since it's for cold weather, I'm sure it wouldn't be popular or needed in Australia. They are various sizes here depending on how big the house is and how big you want them. The cutting board is a cool idea - and the bidet is used to clean after using the toilet - its to clean the human, not the toilet - but that works too I guess! :D
