Power factors of various loads
In AC circuits we have three different powers,
- Apparent power
- True power
- Reactive power
The quantity that ties these together is the Power Factor.
In this video, we will look at the power factors of various loads
- Resistive load
- Inductive load
- Capacitive load
- 3 phase induction motor (loaded and unloaded)
We have put more details about the power factor basics on our blog

How to solve a resistor series parallel circuit and a practical demonstration
มุมมอง 6504 ปีที่แล้ว
Learning to solve a series parallel circuit is not very easy but what adds to the problem is whether you are getting the correct answers. You don't know that until you compare your results with someone or, better yet, connect the circuit and see it work. In this video, I'll show you how to calculate the series parallel circuit and solve it. At the same time, I'll show you how the circuit will w...

What is an Electrical load?

A simple explanation of an electrical or electronics load. Anything that is connected in an electrical or electronic circuit that uses electrical power is an electrical load. Simple examples are lights, TV, motors, etc. Light converts ...
How to Perform Insulation Resistance Test on a Transformer

Insulation resistance test is one of the important tests to perform on a transformer when the integrity of the insulation is tested. How to use a voltmeter?

A voltmeter is probably the safest and most useful measuring instrument in electrical and electronics. I consider it safe because it's internal resistance is very high, which means that the chances of damaging it are low. More importantly, when fault finding an equipment with dangerous voltage, the first meter you should use is a voltmeter to ensure it's dead. In this video, I'll show you how t...
How to Perform Resistance Test on a Transformer
มุมมอง 6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Windings of all transformers are just wires that are wound around an electromagnetic core, which means that they will have some resistance. A 24V DC contactor is the coil rating. The contact ratings are usually much higher. For example, the one we used in the video can operate up to 660 VAC at 9A on the contacts. You may have to check the contact ratings of the contactor you are planning to use.

    Thanks for demonstrating the voltage required to engage the relay. What is the amperage draw required to energize the coil and what size wire should be used for the control switch?

    • @infinispark
      @infinispark 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The current requirements for the coil are usually on the datasheet. In this relay's case, it draws around 170 mA. You usually only need small (thin) wires for the control circuits, depending on what else you have in that circuit.

    may i know the total resistance of the coil you have used (please mention)? Can I use it with relay of 30A 12v /230v ac at 9v (coil has 160 ohm resistance)?... my observation/research :I could mnage relay by supplying low current (resistance in seriesl) 5v by adding capacitor parallel to it because it takes more power to energize initially, once it energized it consumes very less power(current). it works as thevenins theorem - maximum energy transfer theorem. ) So theretically it will consume half of the energy!. so can I use 9 v to power 12v relay as mentioned above. ? i dont have regulated supply

    a 12 volt coil relay,automotive; solar panel; when the sun comes up, voltage rising slowly up to the 12 volts,will the relay snap,ot it will atract progressively and burn the contacts?

    • @NickGreiner1988
      @NickGreiner1988 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don't quote me on this but I've read that it is easier for the the coil to keep the contacts closed, than for the coil to pull the contacts closed in the first place, so if the solar panel generates enough power to close the contacts, there should be more than enough power to keep them closed.

      Most relays will mention the contact rating, and as long as it's at or above 240V AC and the current is under the maximum ratings, you will have no problem. This particular relay can handle 240V and the maximum current of 12A

    • @infinispark
      @infinispark 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Lu. From what I understand, it's not a good idea to connect ohmmeter to a live source because there will be a conflict between the source and the internal power supply of the meter. You can use battery monitors to measure the internal resistance of a battery. Alternatively, there are methods based on voltage and current readings that can help calculate the battery internal resistance

    sorry, may i ask what is your max insulation tester reading? is it 200M ohm (199M) or 999M ? because i have 4 digit insulation tester with max reading 1999Mohm and my transformer is around 560, not over limit or 1.. is it supposed to be okay?

    • @infinispark
      @infinispark 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most countries have a minimum insulation resistance requirement for parts and appliances. In Australia, the minimum value is 1M ohms. Although the ideal reading should be open circuit, it may not always be possible depending on how old a part is or for how long it has been in use. If you're getting 560M ohms, I think that's still usable and most likely will pass the region's minimum IR requirements.

      Hello Rey, you could try solid state relays, they tend to be a lot more sensitive but my recommendation would be to use a 5V relay instead. When you supply less voltage than the requirement, the components can behave erratically. I hope this helps.

      Hi Michael, I'm afraid I don't know much about the new e-exam. We are based in Victoria, Australia and as far as i know, we are still doing paper based. I would think that they would allow you to bring a hard copy of the rules because that's more realistic, but assessment centres can have specific rules to make the exams more consistent across the board. 24v dc 2no 2nc - 230v ac contactor will work on solar panel dc volt 0to30v. I am taking solar volt as reference to connect 230v ac line 1 and 2 switching function. When solar available line 1 to be connected . If solar not available then line 2 to be connected. My doubt is will this contactor work on solar dc volt.

    • @infinispark
      @infinispark 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear Jai Kumar, the contactor will work in principle but it's not going to be reliable. Here are some things to consider - changeover of power that frequently may not be good for the contacts. - the time between the changeover may disrupt the appliances and equipment - when the voltage is between pull in and drop out range, the contactor could ripple between on and off. This could be a problem for the installation. Please note: I haven't personally made this circuit so I don't know actually what would happen. The points above are just my educated guesses. You may be able to setup a test rig with a small panel. Please do share your findings, I'm curious as well. Thanks
