Dads Garage is dedicated to my Dad, Vince Black who died way too young of cancer. My dad was one of those guys that could just do anything in a garage or around the house. He was a diesel mechanic for 40 years then moved on to painting and body work I'll be posting videos of projects I'm working, based on stuff I learned from my dad and can hopefully pass on to you.

I'm back with another Jeep project 1995 YJ with a 2.5. I'm filming 60 second blocks as I go, because I'm filming with my Rayban meta glasses. so if I get cutoff or the angle seems weird, that is why. it's just so much more easy to have 2 hands available and the videos load to my phone and I just have to link them together and upload. Enjoy this adventure!

What model of topper is this? I'm considering the new mid-size MR-X for my frontier
It's MR - Mid-Size 5'X BED.
I don't care what anyone says i like the YJs for their unique square headlights. Besides, there was a reason for why AMC went with square headlights and it wasnt to be modern. AMC wanted to get away as far as they could from the CJ roll over stigma. So they designed the Jeep wrangler to have square headlights to represent stability. How so? Because a square is harder to roll than a circle. As crazy as this sounds now, this was AMCs thought back then from an AMC chief designer at the time.
Yes, I remember reading about that years ago. The redesign came after the 60 minutes story on CJ rollovers.

I had a ton of problems with my 82 cj5. I swapped the bbd to a weber 32/36, and I changed to an HEI distributor from summit and it runs like a dream. I got to cut out almost all of the wiring, the stock computer, lots of stuff probably 60 percent.

Looks great ! I wonder if you had of poked a couple pin holes in the creases with a small needle if that would of helped them disappear. But like you say going down the highway 90 miles an hour no one will ever notice.
Doing this soon. How tough was it to get the back bolt off? Did you have to remove any hoses for access?
My Jeep had Californai emmision crap so I had to push a lot of hoses out of the way, If I had to do it again I would put a threaded stud in the hole and then put a nut on it. This wouold also help in lining up the gasket and the valve cover.
How much money was it to change the white lettering out?

We had one as well,The Laredo comes on it factory!
Also the Laredo was like top of the line for the CJ7's

I got the same spare tire carrier on the back of mine. I made a Jerry can holder out of angle iron that I bolted up behind the spare tire. Works great. Do yourself a favor and get rid of that mechanical fuel pump and run a Holly electric pump. They work great and last a long time. And I have tried them all. Spectra is garbage.

I feel your pain! My 198O CJ5 with the 258 leaks like a sieve again. Used the felpro cork gasket and worked great for over a year, now it's blowing oil everywhere. Think the bolts could use a good tightening. Someone said torque them to 50 inch pounds. What would your suggestion be on the torque spec? And yes, the CJ is the best looking Jeep ever made. And those new Camaros are badass!
Im sure you're long done by now but from what I've read, I would go 50 in. lbs. on torque spec for the valve cover, and as far as the oil blowing everywhere...check that your pcv valve/lines are clogged and there is good suction by from the carb. I decided to do away with carb suction anyway and went with an exhaust pcv kit. Not difficult to install, just drill into the exhaust collector(s) and weld the nipple(s) from the kit to it, then screw on the check valves and hook up the 5/8" pcv hose to the oil/air separators in the valve cover. This did away with all my oil leak problems, especially blowing out from the valve cover...Of course that was after a complete gaskets and seal overhaul on the motor. And it will only work if you live in a non-emission state, like lovely Florida!
@@georgeadolf666 Thank you so much for the reply and advice. Because I'm really, really lazy I have not checked the torque on those valve cover bolts yet. Well actually I did start the attempt but ended up needing a smaller socket for which I ended up purchasing a new socket set with the extender I needed. Now that the weather is not freezing, I'll run out and finish the job. Here in idaho as long as your vehicle is 1980 or older an emissions test is not required. My Jeep is a 1980 so I'm golden! And to top it off, because it's exempt from emissions, I had a guy get rid of the no good for nothing piece of crap catalytic converter! Yay!!!!

What is the manufacturer of that cool spare tire carrier? Do you still like it? Do you have an amazon link to it?
I am doing this conversion now on a 84 cj7, how did you get the old studs off the rocker arm guides? There are the two on top that held the old plastic cover on
Mine were already removed so I didnt have to deal with it. Might be some other youtube videos that show it. Good luck!
I am going to do this conversion this week. Did you have to drill out the holes for the taps or where the holes deep enough? If you did drill, how deep did you go? I've heard where one guy drilled through the head and got coolant.
I did not drill, just tapped the existing holes, seemed to work fine.
When you use felpro gaskets, you can't tighten them down really good or they split. Urrrgh!
