This is a found 20 minute recording of the radio show Welcome Travelers. This program was broadcast in 1952 from Chicago. Oh I've seen this video before I decided not to even try to get a huffy on the play now pay later program they had the Amara add half-price or less with even 15% off I saw a video on Kev Central where are the back end was just completely loose there's a snowy I would buy a huffy the attraction was that I could just get something quickly it's better just to wait I'll have full payday soon I just started working again

    It will not be added to my fleet it's not available at Huffy com the 700 amari is at half price for 15% off but there's just too much flex in the rear suspension how heavy is also offered me a play now pay later there just isn't currently a bike that fits my criteria

    Thank you I'm getting increasingly leery about this bike and huffies in general the one that Kevin had from Kev Central ended up with a frame breaking then I browsed and subscribed to your channel I see that there's more there with 103 days for replacement warranty I've heard nightmares about this the reason I'm considering this bike is that how far is offered me a play now pay later program which interests me I'm still up in the air about the entire thing

    Was the replacement wheel the proper size? To the same quality? Or worse? (i.e. double wall rim, tubeless ready, 27.5)

    Yes I do recall the first video in fact it is appeared right under this video I had one time found a very attractive Huffy bicycle on the healthy website for $139 it's now back up to 169 but after reading quite a bit of the customer complaints that were more complaints than satisfied customers now I'm completely horrified about making any online I would rather see the bike assembled by a big box retailer and go over it myself and hoping that there is a lubrication everywhere also I've been doing pretty good on buying used bicycles what about my past on I don't remember the actual making model he had a list of the tune-up that had a complete had a pretty high rating for an older bicycle it was 4.7 something classic extremely high for I remember it now it was a hybrid he was even willing to deliver it for not that much more room they wish I would have bought it over what I bought the one I got as a reading of 2.6

      I think your way is definitely the better way to go. This was the first time I've bought a bicycle for me in over 30 years, and thought that I would get the best chance of success by getting one right from the manufacturer. My thought was obviously wrong. I really do like the bike, but the customer service was non-existent. I felt like they thought they were doing me a favor to even help at all.

    I am transcribing one of my Mom's old diaries from 1948 to 1952. On June 30, 1949 she wrote "Mailed Sun Valley to Welcome Travelers" I had no idea what WT was but quickly learned it was an old time radio program. In Spokane WA, it was on at 9 am on radio station KGA. WT apparently had some sort of contest and my Mom dedicated a lot of time to entering contests.

      David, that's a great story. It helps piece the history of our culture together. I never knew that this show existed until I tried to archive the recordings that were on my family's wire recorder that was broken for at least 50 years. It's like unearthing a time capsule. Thank you for the information.

    You can have that wheel trued in a bike shop. I know, you paid for one that should've come true. Also, depending on the model of the wheel, you may be able to true it yourself, not a very difficult process. Many videos on it on TH-cam. Seems like a good bike, but I would've bought the Royce Union RHT at a better price and better specc'ed.

    • @zipdude
      @zipdude 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the information. I really appreciate it. I didn't know about the Royce Union RHT previously. I checked it out, and it does look like a better value for the money. I might try to true the wheel myself. I honestly didn't think of that either. I've been out of the bike market since I was a teenager, so it's a learning curve for sure.

    I just got the same radio and I’m wondering where you got your antenna

    • @zipdude
      @zipdude 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The antenna came with the radio when I bought it. I think if you look around, you should be able to find an adapter that goes from banana connectors to the standard cable end to make your own. Looking for this obsolete stuff is half the fun of it.

    To my ears, the recording sounds a little fast, but I have no idea if that can be adjusted on those old machines. Not a big deal though, it's interesting to hear them regardless. Subscribed.

    Where did you get the tapes from?

    • @zipdude
      @zipdude ปีที่แล้ว

      Some of the wire reel recordings were from my family. Others I got from people selling them. This one was bought from a person in Florida, but the recording is from New York's Central Park. My best guess is that these folks once lives in New York and then went south for better weather when they retired, and their estate sold or gave them away. It's really wild when you sit back and think that this recording happened 72 years ago!

    Have you encountered wires that have no end leader so you gotta fish the end of the wire from the take up spool and try to wind it back onto the supply spool? Lol the things we do to hear rare old bits of history! 😂

    • @zipdude
      @zipdude ปีที่แล้ว

      I sure have. I know they have information on how to tie a cloth leader on the wire, but that’s just such a pain. I just use some painter’s tape to hold the end of the wire on the take up reel to keep in place until the recording gets started. The Webster Chicago machines seem easier to deal with a lack of leader wire/plastic than the Silvertone take up reel. I have learned a lot trying to get a machine working to play and digitize these wire recordings.

    • @oldradiosnphonographs
      @oldradiosnphonographs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zipdude all I have are the WC machines. Granted the 180-1 was an improvement over the 80-1 because of the removable take up reel so plastic leaders are easier to deal with. The timer and auto stop are great improvements too.

    • @zipdude
      @zipdude ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oldradiosnphonographs I agree. I have both a 180-1 and an 80-1 that are both functional (but the 180-1 is in better shape). I think there's a piece missing/ broken on the Silvertone mechanism, which is most likely why my family just left it sitting there for decades. I also have some amp issues with the SIlvertone. Too many projects. Have to prioritize!

  • @oldradiosnphonographs
    @oldradiosnphonographs ปีที่แล้ว

    Using a wire that has a plastic leader instead of a string leader is such a pain in the butt for a Webster machine!

    • @zipdude
      @zipdude ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. It definitely pays off to take your time to carefully make the leader flat as you can on the take up reel. I noticed a decent amount of warble (not sure if that’s the right word) early on in the playback if I don’t.
