    Its a private zoo to me with one animal, not a sanctuary. The real sanctuary is in their nature reserve park where you can only watch from a distance, if they do turn up. You can't get close to the wild elephant or bath them. There are many such elephant "sanctuary" in SE asia targeting westerner. You figure out where the elephants came from....

    I dont know when you filmed this but we just spent 12 weeks from the Eyre Penisular, Flinders Ranges Uluru , Alice Springs and Outback Queenlsland. To break the trip from Alice to Ulura we stayed at the turn off at Erldunda both on the way in and out. The temperature all the way was in the mid 20s although it could get cold at night, everything was open and we never saw any rain on the whole trip. There is only a couple of places that you cant film at Uluru because they are considered sacred places but they are well signed. Sad to say but the flies were still there especially at Uluru and Kata Juta probably not as bad but you need to buy yourselves a head net only cost a couple of $ we always leave some in the glove box. The key to travelling in the outback is what time of year you go there and I reckon you have now found that out the hard way.

    • @KristenandTom
      @KristenandTom 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh that sounds great! Our next video which is going live today is the Eyre Peninsula - isn't it amazing there?! You're so lucky with the temperatures - it was very hot when we visited, but we enjoyed it nonetheless! We will definitely be buying fly nets for our next adventure there! Safe travels!

      @@KristenandTom Just a month can make a difference with temperatures out there and the flies were really bad this year in a lot of places as apparently the weather conditions suited them. I was trying to take some photos from a look out near Kata Tjuta and I kept getting them in the shot. The Eyre Peninsular is really nice we camped at Streaky Bay, Coffin Bay, Port Lincoln and Cowell all of them were good stops.. If you havent already you should vist the Flinders Ranges its only about a 2 hrs run from Pt Augusta. The silo slide show in the park and the Pichi Richi Railway in Quorn is good if you can time it when the train is running. We stayed at Rawnsley Park Station near Wilpena Pound which is a good base to explore the area it also has a nice restaurant. Enjoy tour trip...

    Nice video guys I hate those horseflies in Nth Qld once they zero in on you you just cant scare them off you have to kill them before they bite you. Free camping is not allowed by a lot of local councils in tourist areas and I dont blame them some people especially young backpackers in cheap rented campers are absolute grubs and leave places in a mess, even use the surounding bush areas for a toliet. It cost councils to clean it up the caravan parks who are paying council rates and forced to comply with strict safety standards also put pressure on them to stop people from free camping.

    • @KristenandTom
      @KristenandTom 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! Yes the horseflies are not ideal and it seems they come out in force 🤣 We didn’t know that the caravan parks have to pay separate rates, so this is good to know! It’s such a pitty that the few ruin it for the many! But nonetheless it was still such an amazing place!

    How do you think Aussies feel seeing all of these idylic places being taken over by foreign investors, property developers and crowded out with tourists ? Maybe its a good thing for the economy but as a grey nomad I cant help feeling sad when I remember how pristine these places once were. Nothing is more annoying than relaxing or fishing on a quiet beach, enjoying a dip in a swimming hole, being alone at a waterfall or a lookout when a bus load of people arrive and take over the place especially young backpackers and Asian tourists. You guys are fine you travel slowly, respect and enjoy the places that you find and by the looks of things you also get disappointed when the unexpected crowd suddenly shows up.. I used to complain when I was younger that older people were out of touch with reality I guess now I have joined their ranks. Once we were able to dodge the crowd by bypassing the main tourist destinations but having just completed a lap of the mainlan in our caravan it seems its getting crowded where ever you go east coast, west coast even parts of the outback. Enjoy your time exploring this amazing country there is a lot to see and enjoy when you actually take your time to do it properly.

    • @KristenandTom
      @KristenandTom 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much for your comment. We completely agree with you - being tourists ourselves, we want to make sure we respect and enjoy every place we visit. We definitely prefer quiet spots and less touristy areas! Our goal in the future is to call Australia home 😁

      @@KristenandTom I wish you both well and I really hope that you are successful in making the future move to become permanent residents.. Like a lot of Australians I get frustrated by the federal governments immigration policies that are making it extremely difficult for people you know would be a great asset to the country and way too easy for others who believe Australia is just a way for them to make more money than they could by staying at home in their 3rd world countries.. Safe travels we will be heading out again from our home in Lake Macquarie (near Newcastle) in 4 weeks time the plan is to cross outback NSW, head over to the Eyre Penisular in SA then travel through the red center to Uluru and Alice Springs. The last leg we will head back home via outback Queesland probably take us around 3 months to do that loop which will be a lot shorter than the big lap that we did last year. I dont know how far behind your videos are but about 40kms south of Cairms turn into Bubinda follow the main street through town and keep going a few kms out to the Boulders great swimming spot and nice bush walking also call into the Bubinda Bakery located in the main street.

      @@KristenandTom Heres some tips if you are near Ingham drive about an hour inland to the Wallernan Falls its Australias highest single drop waterfall and the drive up the mountain road is epic. There is a nice free camp at Gordonvale near the bridge about 20kms south of Cairns. Take a drive from Gordonvale up the Gillies Hwy to Yungaburra on the Atherton Tablelands, have lunch at the old pub then go out the memorial park on the lake foreshore originally set up by a family who lost their son in the Afghan war. If you are into history while on the Tablelands visit the pioneer village in the little village of Herbiton the amount of buildings thingsans displays they have there is mind blowing Herbiton itself is also a nice little village to grab a coffee..Most of those places you will avoid the crush as they are not on the main tourist route.
