I'm Brazilian and I can say that this is the best video I've ever seen. Congrats, you've won another one subscribed. Thank you for sharing it with us. 🙏
I'm wondering if you already had a college degree (doesn't matter what) going into Analytics that gave you a bit of an advantage over someone with no degree. I do see some job post that don't emphasize a degree, but most do seem to prefer one.
I did not have a degree. Still don’t. I would actually still apply to jobs that mention one as there is still a chance! As long as you try to contact someone outside of just applying as well
@IanKlosowicz Thank you! That is reassuring. I had planned on applying anyway because, as you said it is a numbers game! Your resume advice was VERY helpful. I'm much older than you are and have been a job hopper most of my life trying new things always looking for a career that clicked but didn't require college. I'm not the kind of person that can work full time and go to school full time (certainly tried), and was never able to get enough financing to go without working. I've always been a gypsy wanderer type and have done tons of research over the last 20 years. It wasn't until a few months ago that I saw a video on Data Analytics, and looked more into it that I realized this would be a really good fit for me. Your video definitely helped put things in perspective (I have started on the Google Analytics course) but realized during one session; rabbit hole (SQL link) that perhaps I should focus on more specifics.

Thank you! Starting my Month 1! Will come back and share when moving to Month 2🙌🏽 Quick question - what could I tweak here as I want to enter into Healthcare specifically? I have a bit of experience as a pharmacy technician.
Not much to tweak here besides leaning your projects towards your domain. Try to look for specific datasets that are relevant to that industry!
Thanks for replying! I've started with Excel! Amazing course
It's not easy doing the courses together at the same time lol I am struggling with time management... Or should I have done them one by one and only move to the next one when I've finished Excel 🥲
I’m a recent graduate trying to break into data analytics and this has been super helpful I wish I had this like right before graduation but either way still super helpful and resourceful. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Glad you found it helpful as that's my main goal. Hope to see you around in the other videos :)
I'm about to go to college for marketing analysis but I am an absolute noob and I want to spend the spring/summer giving myself a leg up before the school year begins.
Best of luck! I too became a marketing analyst as my first data job. I really enjoyed it
This video is incredibly helpful. Thank you so much 🙏🏽 @@IanKlosowicz
Very useful advice and action items. I’m looking to change careers and will try this out
Awesome! Hope it helps you get there.
How much did you get paid on your first job. I want to know what to expect please
My first data job was a salary at $60k. I understood this was under the average of what I could make but it was higher than my hourly job and I knew once I got my foot in the door, my salary would keep increasing
Thank you for these insights, Ian! May I ask what you consider to be a good way to reach out to recruiters? I've tried a few times, but their responses (if any) are usually along the lines of: 'We will review your profile, and if there is a fit, we will get in touch. Thank you, have a good day.' Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
So getting a reply is the toughest part but when it's a reply at all, I would follow up on it. Give it a couple of days and ask if they reviewed it yet. I'm sure you can come up with a better response haha but keep track of them in a spreadsheet to regularly follow up. Other than that, reach out to EVERY recruiter within the company and ask if they are the correct one for that particular job listing. Your goal should be to get into contact with the right one at first and then you can ask if they have seen your resume come through
@@IanKlosowicz Thank you, Ian, for taking the time to reply!
These videos are great!
Glad you're enjoying them!
It's super cool. I'm one of your followers on LinkedIn. Agreeing with your view points
Thanks for watching friend! Any part you are struggling with specifically?
@@IanKlosowicz can I message you in LinkedIn?
Nice video, Ian!
Thanks man!
and in many cases, you don't even have to go back to school for another formal degree.
This is what I will teach the world!
Good to see you after months. As usual content is straight to the point! Thanks Ian :)
Thanks for stopping by! Yea I ended up moving and FT job got busy… expect to see more videos!
I follow you on LinkedIn. Thanks for the tips!
Udemy is $35 a month and has 12,000+ videos included for free with that and you can make playlists for later. That is what I am currently using.
hey brother know you're busy, I have a github and resume and have been applying, could I get some feedback if you have 5 mins? thank you either way for the info
Hey! I’m no resume expert and not the biggest fan on GitHub for portfolios. I’d suggest building a great looking portfolio on Maven Analytics (it’s free). At least that would be my suggestion and then for resume, try to replicate formatting with what you find in google. Use ChatGPT to help with words and put it in your own words
@@IanKlosowicz thank you Ian, i've been applying and can't even get a phone screen. Got to keep my head up, signed up to Maven and getting to work. Just feel discouraged sometimes because i've been putting in the time
@@jaredbisla8723yea it definitely sucks sometimes. In reality it could be down to luck. I know people who took 2 months to land a job and others where it took 8 months. Chances are it’s not your fault
can an art student become a data analyst in 2025? thank you
It doesn’t matter your background. Anyone can become a data analyst. I was a warehouse worker before my first data job (without a degree) :)
Very valuable video and tips! Thank you. I will definitely do the STAR format questions daily henceforth.
When you said reach out to the recruiter, how would you do that? If you don't have LinkedIn premium you can't message directly right? Thanks
Hey sorry for the late reply! So yes it wasn’t always like this, but you can keep a list of who you connected with and when they accept, reach out to them. Not the most efficient way but it’s really the only way since LinkedIn did that..
Thank you!
My pleasure! 😊
That applying method is patched its like 99% spam
Thank you Ian for the insights! 1Q why do you consider Python optional in your checklist? Honestly it is my biggest obstacle in my learning journey.
Because most entry level positions do not require it. Sure some do but majority do not. It’s going to take you just as long to learn Python as it does to use Excel, SQL, and a big tool.
@@IanKlosowicz Thanks for the reassurance. That's good news for a beginner like me 😁
Thank you Ian. For the projects, what if you have a few specific domain data analyst jobs such as marketing, or health care analyst?
Very clear and helpful, thank you!
Thanks for the advice, Ian!
Hi can you please give me advice for my career? I just finished my master degree in electrical engineer. I want to be data analyst and I am ready to learn, however I have no coding background. Should I take this step of changing my career? Is it possible for me to become data analyst?
Hey! Well I can answer that yes it is possible to become a data analyst as I didn’t have any formal education. Now the answer to should you make the career change, that is completely up to you to find out since you know your life best
Thank you for the insight and I wish your channel grows fast.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video, which was super helpful! I was curious, do you think that a master's program is necessary for an undergrad with a non-technical background to transition into an entry level data analyst role? Or is it sufficient to get a certificate & build specific skills (like SQL) with a portfolio? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🏻
thank you Ian!!!
My pleasure!
Why I missed this data content as a data analyst🙁

Hi Ian, thanks for so valuable information because I am in healthcare sector over 7 years and now switching as a data analyst in healthcare sector…u r only 1 who actually advised for specialisation in specific domain rather than jumping very domain…Thanku…
It's such a great way to stand out if you are truly passionate about a certain industry. Thanks for watching!
how u got alot of follwers on linkedin despite having low count on utube?
I really love the simplicity of the explanation and the honesty, this is the real content that helps one land a job 👏 this video was worth the wait I have a question: I'm a linux user so i'm used to using libreoffice sheets and all job postings require excel, do i have to shift to excel?
Thanks for watching! Hmm I am only speaking from what I have personally seen, I have never seen a requirement include libreoffice sheets. I would definitely shift to Excel if I were you
@@IanKlosowicz thank you for the response! Have a great day
Thanks so much 🎉
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks Ian! I have already started my first few projects and your video confirmed that I’m on the right path. I appreciate the knowledge you’re spreading :)

Hi please does anyone know where to get sample practice excel tests and projects for free
Hi Ian. Thank you for your video. I have 2 questions and hope you have a chance to answer: 1. When we put the link to view portfolio in LinkedIn profile. And this link shows up when I use laptop, but I don't see it on a smartphone. Is it right? 2. I can see a project we added first, it will be shown up first. Wondering we can custom the order of projects I want to be shown up first, second, ..? Thanks
1. It should show up on mobile too! I'm not too sure why that is happening... 2. Yes you can change the order. When you are logged in click your name at the top right and click "View Portfolio", after that you will see "Change Order" on the left side of your portfolio.
You're heavenly sent. I've been so confused on how to go about my portfolio since i finished the Google proffesional data analytics certificate course. You just earned a dedicated subscriber❤
Glad you found value! Hopefully you have a nice and clean portfolio now
