This is so interesting and explains why when I'm watching documentaries and hearing people speak in their accents, I sometimes hear a British or UK accent of some sort.

I remember watching American Idol when Elton John was coaching contestant Kelly Pickler. Kelly is from eastern NC. I live in middle NC. After hearing Kelly talk he exclaimed “ my gosh - you sound British when you talk”!!

After the revolution the English left the US and went to Canada the accent has nothing to do with English people, its a strong Hispanic accent your closest neighbours and people you interacted with were Spanish, something like 4% of americans in 2023 can trace any ancestry back to the 1700s so its definitely got nothing to do with the English you just speak their language.

Here's the deal, the English accent common even for the aristocracy was much closer to a northern accent. It was Rhotic when this country was founded so this is a little pandery and not entirely accurate.

Man im from louisiana and i aint ever had that awesome cajun accent. I got this accent that people think im makin up but it just how i talk. Just learned how to hide it for so many years
