Lowca, Cumberland
A flight over Lowca emphasising the difference between the old industrial Lowca and the present day more tranquil village. In it's time the viallage has had a coal mine, an iron foundry and a brickworks.

Another great before/after video, love to see these, the lights on the greenhouses was perfect, did you know these were being turned on? Stroke of luck otherwise.
@@davidharle952 I went every day with no luck. Then I thought, “hang on a minute, it’ll be dark sooner when the clocks change”. So, I got lucky. There was only one section lit but they came in as I got closer. It’s a pity it was only half of the huge new greenhouse.
Yet another gem hidden away, really enjoyed it and especially the history of the mine, couldn't believe it dated back that far. And what I thought was a quaint little church but is a school.
@@davidharle952 Yes. The miners were brought over by Elizabeth I because they had specialised knowledge to smelt the ore. The schoolhouse is the little extension on the side of the church.
I love how the greenhouse lights go on as you fly by. Well timed
Stunning views
Great work my new flying friend 😊👍
@@sneakysweeno Thanks. I just need some nice weather to continue with my “shopping list” of flights.
@StevieProton same here! So many places to go and not enough nice days 😄👍
*Oh wow. That must have taken some effort to try to align these shots from the air. Nicely done.👍If it wasn't for the change in the trees some of these places look stuck in time.*
Thanks. The shots aren't as aligned as I would have liked but the original photos were taken from an aircraft flying higher than I am allowed to go with the drone. So, the angle isn't quite right but they do give a sense of the changes, or lack of, over the years. I've got a different one coming next week hopefully, which shows an even greater change to the landscape.
Kitaro. Nice music
@@howiek3433 Perfect drone music.
Brilliant 👏 Really nice castle. Liked the comparison 👌 Fabulous
Nice to compare the old places to new places 👍😊
@@sneakysweeno Thanks. I’ve got another one coming out in the next couple of weeks with a bigger transformation.
Well done yet again
Amazing, I love these sort of videos, so good to see how things have changed or not. One thing though is the amount of cars on the main street. Sorry but I have to ask, where did you buy your drone from in 1929. lol.
@@davidharle952 I didn’t buy a drone in 1929. I’ve got a TARDIS and a hot air balloon.
@@davidharle952 I’ve got another video nearly ready with an even greater transformation.
@@StevieProton Looking forward to it, oh I wasn't suggesting you were old. lol.
@@davidharle952 If I’m old, so are you. We’re the same age.
@@StevieProton I'm not old, I'm an ancient relic, the history museum wants to put me on display. And that's how I feel as well.
How were the overhead shots taken back in the day before drones
@@leehurst6922 Most of them are from aircraft and some were from early microlights. That’s why it’s difficult to get an exact alignment because they would be flying at more than 400 feet.
Hey, I've watched every video on your channel and it's not SEO-based, so it's not getting you more views or subscribers, but your video is good.
@@mdsaddamtech Thanks. I’m not into self promotion, so I’m not a “please like and subscribe” person. I make my videos as a hobby so I can show my friends and family the area I live in. Onwards to the next one.
Another fine job! I love the overlays!
Great flight my friend. Beautifully captured as always.
For some reason, I wasn't subscribed when I was catching up on your channel. 😮No worries, I am again now. Lovely flight, Steve.
@@ladyintheskyuk Thanks, Yvonne. I changed my name from zigzagsox to Stevie Proton to match my FB identity. That was my 200th video.
Nice one Steve 👍🏻 No answers to the colour of the water yet.😮 Looked like a great day 😊 awesome night flight.
@@ladyintheskyuk Are you mad? The Council, National Rail, the Harbour Commissioners, The Environment Agency and our M.P. have been investigating it for the last two years. Their investigation has concluded “we don’t know”. The only obvious source is the culvert that pours in at the north east corner but, nobody knows where that water comes from and it’s been there for decades. We might find out one of these days.
I'm surprised its still there. Thought it would all be in the riber by now. Lot of birds😮 nicely captured 👌
@@ladyintheskyuk I think there’s a problem with the owner and who’s gonna pay for the repairs. It was a waypoint flight and the drone was flying itself. When I saw all birds I just hoped the next view wasn’t a spiral down to the river. A lucky escape again.
Charming video
@@jimmycburfield5997 That one was a while ago. I’d almost forgotten about it.
A most enjoyable fine treat of audio and visual... this is perfect to detach a little from life... sit back and relax a little... truly appreciated this lovely presentation you put together ...the music is as soul brushing as the shots 🙏🌹
Lovely scenery
Thank you for making this video. I've studied this place for 20 years and never seen the place from these perspectives. How neat to see something new. I give you a Gold Star.
Thanks. I was there for my cousin's wedding. So, I just took the opportunity to have a fly around.
Never walked up beyond the waterfall from the NT carpark, so thanks for sharing. I've driven up the road from Ullswater, but you don't see much from ground level.
@@theboy-uk Aira Force is nestled in the trees, so it’s not really drone friendly. Plus, too many tourists about.
Love it, I see the Autumn colours are are starting to show, hopefully the weather will play ball so we can get out to video them.
@@davidharle952 Well, The Dragon is away next week and my new bike is in the back of my car. So, I just need some dry weather for a week and I’m all set.

Bloody hell, that was a cheek clencher.
@@davidharle952 The drone was on autopilot, so I just shut my eyes and waited for the splash.
The birds were ganging up on you!
New underwear needed after that one.
@@StevieProton LOL, yes!
Love it, The day/night transition shots were perfect.
Do you know why the water is a dramatically different colour at the carpark end?
@@theboy-uk Nobody knows. Lots of people have theories about it. The reddish colour would seem to indicate that it’s iron ore based. But, nobody knows where it’s from and how it gets here. It’s been tested and isn’t toxic but it’s starting to stain the boats that are moored there long term. One theory is that it’s coming from old mines and is being routed to the harbour due to the railway tunnel that goes under the town. So, Network Rail are involved along with the Environment Agency, plus the Harbour Commissioners and anybody else who thinks they can solve the problem. It’s been there over a year and all the headless chickens are getting nowhere.
@@StevieProton Weird, yet fascinating, as its only that one part that seems to be impacted. Great vid by the way, and the day/night transition was epic.
@@theboy-ukYeh, it looks like the inflow pipe in the corner is the source, but when the tide goes in and out the lock gates are closed during low tide and the water is fairly stagnant. Before the lock gates were installed the boats would all rest on the mud during low tide.
@@StevieProton 👍, thanks for info. Not seen many issues with stagnant water in other places with lock gates, but maybe this pollution/mineral/whatever highlights it more.
Love the night shots at the end, itadds to the place
😲😲😲4:55 How was this stunning day to night transition achieved? I can only guess that the drones flightpath can be perfectly recorded and then replicated.
Yes, two waypoint flights. One at 2pm and one at 11pm. Then I use a grid on an adjustment layer. As long as the height, angle, and gimbal angle are the same I do a bit of fine frame adjustment along with a reduction of the opacity to align both videos together.
Nice :)
Excellent video of the Whitehaven harbor and what a nice surprise -day turned into night!
Fantastic scenery keep it up
Awesome, I knew the place existed but never gave it a second thought. didn't realise just how beautiful it is. loved it, cheers. Was that you perched 1/2 way up the hill?
No, not me. I was down on the path from the Wasdale Head Inn up the valley. I have walked up Kirk Fell on that path - it's steep and brutal.
Superb! I've stayed at Overwater and at Threlkeld, but never been that way round of Skiddaw and Blencathra. Another to add to the list for next time :)
This Mosedale is one of many. It's up at the top of the Wasdale Valley. Ritson's Force is named after Will Ritson the long time landlord of the Wasdale Head Inn and reputed "World's Biggest Liar"
@@StevieProton Ah, wrong Mosedale, LOL. So this is the valley up from the NT carpark at the very end of the road?

Spectacular flight. Stunning 👍 ❤
We were up there last week on the train. You don't appreciate from the gorund the formation of that little valley. That tiny stream did not form that valley, it's an underfit stream! I suspect it was a glacial outwash channel. Underlying rock is Triassic sandstone: you're well outside the Lake District volcanics. How do you not get copyright strike from Enigma?
@@KokowaSarunoKuniDesu Because my YT channel isn’t monetised I’m not making money using someone else’s talent. So, most artists allow that. It’s free publicity for them. So, no copyright strikes.
@StevieProton I'm in the same boat. Though I have had Copyright strikes from things I posted. I also get Copyright 'claims' from people who offer 'free' music sources, but these are usually allowed, and so not struck.
Goof grief! That's where I stayed last month!

@@ladyintheskyuk Thanks. It doesn’t look that involved but it took a bit of planning to fly and then sort out six videos.
Great video but so sad to see. That landscape has been untouched for an eternity and it will never be the same again
I like quarries but they do appear to be an eyesore when they're in production. Although, a lot of them make really interesting places for wildlife after they revert back to "nature".
It could do with a good clean. I know it is coal country, but no need to go around with a layer of it all over the place.
There are a few reasons the house hasn't been cleaned. The cost is one. 😮. £££££££££££. The house is more than 300 years old, 400 in some parts and seen better days, so to clean the stone would likely damage it more. Besides this yes, Wentworth Woodhouse was quite literally built on coal and the wealth from the local coal mines on the estate, so the black dirt is a part of it's history and we love it. ❤ We don't want it cleaning 😊
Another wonderful flight!!
Absolutely stunning, one of your best yet and a treat to watch. Did you just travel from Bowness Knott car park up the valley? Hope you don't mind me following you again. I'll have to charge the bike battery and wait for the weather to improve.
Yeh, I parked at Bowness Knott and cruised up to Black Sail gate on my eBike. It's 8 kilometres and a nice quiet bit of forestry road. No cars and I saw less than ten people all day. Just how I like it - no tourists. The worst bit is the road from Croasdale down to Bowness Knott - very narrow and lotsa bends. Once you get to the Forest England carpark the road is barriered off, so you only see the odd car going to the field centre or an odd Forest England or National Trust van. Although, all the ones I saw were just parked up and empty.
