🍃For those who don’t know, paan is basically betel leaf that is generally laced with tobacco or in a sweet version made with gulkand and other flavourings. It is more commonly had in South-Asian countries as a mouth freshener and often enjoyed at the end of meals because of its digestive properties. In this recipe, we will fuse together the flavours of paan in the easiest 2-ingredient coconut laddoo made with just coconut and sweetened condensed milk.
➡️ Step by step guide
• Preparation time - 5 mins
• Cooking time - 10-15 mins
• Yield - 8-10 laddoos
➡️ Ingredients :
• 4 Paan leaves
• 170 gms Sweetened condensed milk
• 1 tsp Ghee
• 150 gms Desiccated coconut
• 25-30 gms Gulkand
• Desiccated coconut, for garnish
Method
1.) Gently wash the paan leaves in some cold water. Roughly tear them and add them to a high-powered blender.
2.) Add the condensed milk to the blender and blitz it till both are well combined.
3.) Meanwhile, add the ghee in a pan on low heat, and once the ghee starts to melt, add the desiccated coconut.
4.) Stir it on low flame using a spatula for 3 to 4 minutes or until it starts to change colour to light brown.
5.) Add the paan flavoured condensed milk to the roasted coconut and cook the mixture on low heat for another 3-4 minutes or till it starts to thicken.
6.) Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture slightly cool down.
7.) Now, take a small portion of the coconut paan mixture, flatten it as shown in the video and add 1/2-1 tsp of gulkand in the centre.
8.) Bring the edges of the flattened mixture together and roll it into a smooth ball.
9.) Roll the prepared ball into some more desiccated coconut so that it’s completely covered.
10.) Repeat the same process with the remaining mixture.
11.) Plate and serve.
