    Using the right camera setup I think you can get a VERY pleasing look with a B4/ENG lens. Granted some lenses are way past their prime but if you get one in decent condition and pair it with, say, a BMPCC 4K/RAW you get an image that is sharp BUT the sharpness is dampened just the right amount by the older lens. You get something akin to a Super 16mm film look because the lens also has slight artifacts (such as chromatic aberration and blooming) that are not great for modern TV but just fine for a nature scene. Case in point, I shot this with a BMPCC 4K and a B4 (probably my Canon but could be the Fuji) where the zoom is really good. A tip: don't try this handheld like I quite OBVIOUSLY did! th-cam.com/video/4p4XQUtieKA/w-d-xo.html

    I'm curious if the gen 2's cheaper hose is the main culprit for the inconsistent output? I also noticed your side by side comparison has them both shooting straight up. I'm wondering if you ever had any of that inconsistent output from your gen 2's when the nozzle was NOT aimed up. I'm a filmmaker looking for a good fog machine to add haze/fog/smoke for shoots, and wouldn't typically need a machine that shoots directly up. Reliability is obviously a must have, though. I am still looking for how to film in a church or theater (not the cinema type), with an f 2.8 it seems to be to dark most of the time. I bring the ISO up to 3000+, any other suggestions for a cheap zoom lens in lower light condition with an gh5?

    • @lostproductionspdx
      @lostproductionspdx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The GH5 should be really solid in low light 🕯️. What frame rate and shutter speed are you using? If you're doing 60p that could be part of it or it's just incredibly dark. There are some good videos on YT about camera settings to maximize your light intake. I would start by checking your settings since that camera should perform nicely. Otherwise, seems Sony sensors are the kings of low light, I really was impressed by the Blackmagic Cameras too.

    I've bought over 20 fixtures from China since 2014 for my cover band, most being 12 X 10W RGBAW Led Pars, I've had to replace a couple but 80% still running no problems. Loud fans not an issue in Bars and Clubs. A few points: 1) Almost all lights are made in China, even name brands. 2) Most name brands find lights they like at trade shows, buy in bulk and slap their name on them. Yes, they have better support and manuals, but sell for triple or quadruple the price. 3) Some factories even sell the same lights they sell to name brands to other resellers. Capitalism at it's best, move as much product as possible. Try and take them to court in China... So I could buy Chauvet Intimidator 350s or ADJ Focus 3Zs 100W LED moving heads for $800+ each or buy 4 similarly featured $200 no-name ones from AliExpress or Ebay for that same $800. It's a no-brainer, treat them as a commodity. If 1 out of 4 breaks, I'll get a replacement and still come out ahead. Also helps to be handy.

    • @lostproductionspdx
      @lostproductionspdx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Friends and loved ones, If you can afford the name brand lights you'll be getting a more consistent product with excellent resale value and parts availability. Also you don't have to pay retail, in fact no one who buys in quantity pays retail price. At the end of the day, it's a tool and if the tool is accomplishing the demands you have, it's the right tool for the job. The whole made in china thing doesn't mean much. Like you say, they keep the factory rolling, in the morning they fill American DJs order, then they fill Elation Lighting and then they do Blizzard lighting and Mega Lite. Then the night shift is unbranded product sold to a bunch of others who rebrand it with random obscure brands. They might come from the same factory but they aren't built with the same parts or running the same software etc, each manufacturer has it's own specs and Quality Control. A 20% failure rate isn't unsubstantial to someone spending $100k on lights. Maybe it is for someone spending $2k. Big lighting rental companies are beginning to embrace unbranded products however they call the "generic" product by what it's copying, sharpy, atomic strobe, intimidator for example. So what would you rather have? If you know the actual supplier and have enough money you might be able to get an identical product but only for deep pockets not for small players. Personally, I find the brand name is better designed, performs better and is overall more desirable for me and my diverse client needs. If your lights don't have a brand name how are you going to get more of the exact same product or even recommend someone else buy it? Essentially I'm writing the same points I mentioned in the video. Everyone would rather have the brand name, not everyone can afford it and that's totally fine.

    Just had the pump in my gen 1 1800 flex die after 8 years. I took it apart and everything looks good, but the plunger just doesn’t seem to want to move (maybe the coil is weak or broken internally). I bought a replacement pump from Chauvet, but they sent me something different than the part that was in my gen 1. Of course, it’s still the right shape/size and does work, but I’m a little worried since it’s a 41W Class H [1 min on/1min off] pump (produced 20042001) vs the original 48W Class F [2 min on/1 min off] pump (produced 20130311). I’m guessing they sent me the pump they use in the gen 2 machines, which is pretty disappointing.

    • @lostproductionspdx
      @lostproductionspdx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, yeah from my observations the newer machines have a stronger spray of fog at the expense of longevity, pretty inline with those specs. I was thinking it was an age difference but it's likely they just started using a different pump. Those fog fury type machines became really popular maybe they just simplified supplies and started standardizing on parts for ease and cost reasons. If the newer machine didn't constantly break I wouldn't have minded the reduction in continuous output.

    This a really great review. But I wonder why the B4 video quality is so inferior compared to the kit lens? I was gonna get myself one to use with a Sony A6400 (which has 1.5x/2x digital zoom), but after a few videos I watched I kinda think it's not worth it?

    • @lostproductionspdx
      @lostproductionspdx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely inferior, especially when you see them side by side. I can't speak precisely to scientific reasons but older lenses were designed for different camera's, film for example or 3 chip sensors. So the sensor and the lems were never designed to work together. So you get some undesirable image qualities but of course the zoom range is incredibly helpful for certain use cases.

    • @angelfoto4795
      @angelfoto4795 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of this lenses are for SD cameras so lenses didn't need to be so sharp, with HD cameras new really expensive B4 lenses came out with better quality. Some people say that you avoid SD lenses but I think a lot of them worth it, specially in terms of price and quality.
