    OKNA utilizes a better designed/engineered extrusion. This can be confirmed after tilting the bottom sash in and checking out the meeting rail area. ProVia has chopped up interlocks and peel and stick fuzzy cheater pads to stop daylight in the corners. This is the weak point on any DH window regarding air leakage. OKNA nailed their design. The quality of the weatherstripping and balance covers is much better with OKNA. ProVia has a nicer screen with it being extruded over roll formed. OKNA hasn't embraced Duo-Tech locks yet, however we have been getting some bad Duo-Tech locks from ProVia lately in which the cam is defective and just spins 360 will not pull the tilt actuator to allow the sash to tilt. Both are great windows and I sell and install both every week. OKNA casements, awnings, and basement hoppers are much better as they have no bottom weeps to the master frames.

Duo-locks is a nice feature, but definitely it is more complicated and gives more problems when it stops working. If that happens then in most cases the whole sash has to be replaced

    Had Andersen Series 100 windows (recommended for high heat areas) installed in my new home. Three of the windows now have extensive cracks on the sashes and the glazing beads have fallen off. I have contacted Andersen numerous times, they sent out a field rep and refuse to take care of the problem. The cracks pictured below are just a very few (20-30) of them and they are continuing to get worse as Andersen pretty much said too bad. Come on Andersen make this right! So much for limited lifetime guarantee.

    How does window size (framing width) change for Provia Endure if you go from inserts to full window replacement?

    • @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC
      @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC หลายเดือนก่อน

      It all depends on the existing windows you have right now. Full frame replacement requires removal of the whole frame of the existing windows, that what gives you extra window frame real estate. It does not depend on the Provia frame only. Provia Endure is definitely have thicker frame to body ratio, to cut it slightly, Provia Aspect might be an option. If you have small windows right now, then definitely it is better to do full frame replacement, otherwise inserts give you the most approachable price

    • @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC

      The window size depends on the existing rough opening frame of the windows you have . If you have wood windows right now then usually you can get extra about 3-4 inches. If you have fairly big windows, we usually recommend to install replacement windows to make the project more budget friendly

    Appreciate the overview/Comparison. One thing I would have liked you to talk about when it came to aesthetics would be the welds on the windows. I also noticed that you have an old Endure Sample as the Sash Stops are no longer at the top and are in the middle so they are hidden when the windows are closed and the jamb liner is all you see. Another thing I would mention is the type of Vinyl both windows are using, are they both Virgin Vinyl? Is the meeting rail reinforcement important and if so, what kind of material? What color options can you get on both windows? What grid options can you get? Warranties are important as well so talking about both I think would be a good thing HOWEVER a warranty is only as good as the company that stands behind them so probably be a nice thing to talk about are the companies and your opinion on which as great customer service for that instance when you do have to use the warranty. We appreciate you watching and giving us feedback. Yes, indeed, the Provia Sample is about a few years old. We should get new sample and see what else Provia changed, but it is nice to hear that they improved the design by eliminating those sash stops. Both windows Okna 600 and Provia Endure have virginity vinyl material, they do have fiberglass reinforcement in the meeting rail. Definetly warranties are important, and both Provia and Okna provide solid lifetime warranties

    One thing some don't understand is that a quality fiberglass window is much stronger than vinyl and will probably last longer than even a high quality vinyl window, and fiberglass will not expand/contract as much.

    • @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC
      @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely, fiberglass material reinforces the window frame and adds more robustness. We wish the window had more insulation around the sashes to lower air infiltration

    Should probably review the Integrity by Marvin line, which is Marvin's fiberglass replacement window line (as opposed for new construction). They are made in a different factory, and although they both use the same fiberglass raw material, the Integrity line are much nicer windows than the Marvin Essential.

    Quick note on energy efficiency from a mechanical engineer and full time energy analyst: the conductivity of these windows is essentially identical because they are both double pane fiberglass options. That's going to be the vast majority of your energy efficiency impact. There is weather stripping on the Marvin window, just a bit less than the Pella.

    • @fakeusername92
      @fakeusername92 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unless you're designing a Passive Haus, you're not going to be able to tell them difference, energy wise.

    • @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC
      @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We do agree that fiberglass material is gonna do a superb job in energy efficiency, but that generous weatherstripping on Pella Impervia is gonna improve air infiltration ratings substantially

      @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@fakeusername92 We would disagree on that one. From our experience, extra insulation makes a home more quite, if the window is installed properly and shimmed

    I can't find anything about the marvin essentials having weepholes, and another recent video of an essentials install doesn't seem to show them. Are you sure that's the current design? Thanke!

    Thanks for your advice. As a result, I have narrowed down my choice to the ProVia Endure and the Okna Eco Pro 600. However, it seems that the Okna 600 warranty is quite a bit better than the ProVia Endure. The Okna offers a buyer's lifetime plus transferable to 1 subsequent owner warranty on the glass, vinyl and hardware. Whereas the Endure offers only a buyer's lifetime warranty on glass and hardware (non transferable). So if the original buyer of a ProVia Endure get's "hit/killed by a beer truck" the day after installation, then there is no longer any warranty on glass and hardware of the ProVia Endure windows. This doesn't seem to show much confidence in the Endure's window's quality versus the Okna 600. I'd like for there to be a window warranty for my spouse, children and/or any subsequent buyer. What are your thoughts on warranties and should warranty be a significant deciding factor? Thanks again. Doug

    • @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC
      @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We like that both windows offer lifetime warranties. It means that the manufacturers of Okna and Provia are confident that their windows will last, they are putting their money 💰 on the line to back up their claim, that their windows are made from premium materials. When you check other flagship windows manufacturers like Andersen, Marvin, they tell you that according to the studies their windows are most durable, but when it comes to warranty, they offer 15 years or 20 years top. Right away you can smell a rat, that something is not right. So it is important to look at the warranties. When it is transferable it helps, if you are planning to sell the house, otherwise both warranties will be solid.

    Great comparison video. Would the OKNA 500 be comparable to the OKNA 600 but at a much lower price? I am deciding between OKNA 500 and ProVia Endure double hungs for New Jersey weather.

    • @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC
      @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      OKNA 500 is more of an entry level window. It is more comparable to Provia Aspect and it has less features. If you are planning to live in your house more than 5 years, definitely OKNA 600 is the best option

    In this video you measured ProVia Endure sash and frame at 3.5". But 2 months ago in your video comparing ProVia Endure with Marvin Essential, it measured 2.25". Does frame and sash thickness vary so much over time?

    • @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC
      @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a good question if time influences expansion and contraction of the window frame in this case by 1.25”. I wish I could say that atmospheric rivers made it expand and contact, but I am not a politician, this kind of BS is not gonna go through. Will double check tomorrow what happened Appreciate you watching and fact checking!

      double checked the samples, Provia Endure sash and the frame combined is 3 1/4 if measured from the accessories groove or 3 1/2 if measured including that groove. In the video Provia Endure Vs Marvin Essential it was measured including that groove, so it came out 3 1/2 combined. I do apologize for the confusion

    The Marvin has the ugly install holes on the inside. They are so ugly. You need to revise video and zoom in and show ugly install hole covers. As a homeowner, I don't want to see these covered holes on the inside everyday. Makes the window a NO buy for me. I recommend everyone go to a showroom or house where the windows are installed before buying

      Picked up six of these windows on clearance for $83 each, marked down from $349. If I had known the bottom sash didn't tilt out, I would have passed on the deal. How does one fix the window in case of broken glass? No way in a million years would I pay $400 for this 100 series window. They give you eight mounting screws when only six are needed. Four of the holes in the frame weren't properly marked. Can't believe the corners that were cut for what these cost.

    • @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC
      @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WoodgemanX definitely it is frustrating not to be able to tilt at least the bottom sash. When you have Andersen 100 series in your house you have to hire someone to do any maintenance

      If you need to replace a glass it is possible to do that, but it has to be done by a knowledgeable window mechanic with special tools and set up. The whole sash has to be replaced, there is no option to replace just the glass. This option is especially unfortunate if you have dark bronze windows. You end up with two different color sashes

    1. Are there differences in wind speed tolerance? 2. If you compare windows closer in size, is there still a difference in sash thickness? 3. Which do you think will last longer (seems like the Pella would last much longer with it's over built features)?

    • @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC
      @SidingWindowsWizardsLLC 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Both windows are wind resistant and tolerant. The sash thickness is the same on all sizes. Both windows have robust construction. With extra big windows Pella might be the way, but Marvin boasts pretty reliable frame and sash construction as well
