You sound great on alto as well Matt! Beautiful tone and great playing throughout.
Thank you kindly Dave! Definitely not an alto player but good to know it sounds good! And that the work is starting to pay off
Great job Matt! Super fun to listen AND watch!
Glad you enjoyed it! The playing’s a bit raggedy at times; funk definitely not my forte! Had a lot of fun with the editing though, haha.
Sounding beautiful Matt!
Appreciated! I was quite surprised how this works as a ballad, it’s odd, but beautiful and lyrical at the same time!
Sounding good!
mouthpiece setup?
Mouthpiece is a Daddy-O 7 in orange ultem, with Boston Sax Shop Black 2.5 reeds.
Love it. Makes me want to be drinking whiskey in a bar with a trilby and a transatlantic accent 🎷
The Rigotti Gold .. and the Legere are the ones I liked.. would like to try the Gonzalez though
Which reed is which
The order and my thoughts are here: th-cam.com/video/ZY2fmnQDC6s/w-d-xo.html Without knowing, which do you like best, though?
I'd be moaning' every mornin' too, playing that over and over and over....
I also don't like the buzz and the sharpness of the edges of the Legere reeds. The Rigotti Gold 3L (L=light?) still sounds best to me and they will definitely get softer after very few hours of playing, trust me, so maybe give it some longer try. Of course your currently preferred Gonzalez reeds should all be consumed before possibly switching to another brand.
L is light yes. I do quite like the Rigotti reeds, and they're consisten; just need to try a 2.5 I think. They're a touch challenging at the bottom end.
bien joué
Waooooo sounds so good
Thanks! Appreciated!
You're such a gem
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Very nice. Where can I find the play along music yo0u are using?
Whoops, meant to include a link in the description. This one is from the Eagleheart jazz channel, though they're all from the Hal Leonard backing track series.
ok so basically scarlett solo and 2i2 guys are shot? and need to use JACK or similar finnicky patching software emulate this? why is this still so somplicated in 2024, instead just making a dedicated browser channel in the firmware ? also id like to ask a quiestion regarding your vid, is it needed to actually record the track or first or is it enough to just arm the track (along with your vst instrument or guitar) to jam with? sometimes i just run thru a lot of jamtrack until i find one i like, as they are now a LOT available... thx, nice vid btw!
Gen 3 yes; gen 4 I think they have the loopback included in the smaller models. With regards to recording it, it depends on what you're doing etc. You can certainly arm it and then record your own playing live alongside it etc to track both your playing and the track simultaneously. If you're just jamming and have no intention to record at all, then you don't need any of this routing - just hit play and then jam away. I tend to dump it down as a track first because I guarantee I won't be happy with the first take I do, or even worse, I'll leave some notification on and that'll be captured by the loopback as well.
Another classic... 😂
Not normally in three though!
Love that song and your sound. Heard another beautiful version of the song again today, check out Charles McPherson on "Siku Ya Bibi".
Appreciated Christoph, will check out McPherson's take.
Good!
Good!
❤p
...a bit about the composition in the description would be interesting Matt.
Complimenti
I dig your tone and your ideas! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Bit more work yet with this to get everything neat though.
Great!
Really great!!
Thanks! Such a beautiful song
sick chart and great tone! a lead sheet would be awesome
What transposition do you want? Concert, Bb, Eb?
@@matt-darwin Eb, and if you're fine sending two, Bb as well!
Visuals a bit blurry on this one, but interesting choice of repertoire, Matt.
Yeah my camera isn't the greatest, and seem to be playing places where its always in front of a window!
This is great!
Thanks! Need to spend a bit of time on my alto ironing out the intonation....
Nice licks, nice tenor tones ! cheers
Man, I like your playing. 😊
Thanks Christoph! Appreciated!
Awe man that re20 sounded great
Be sure to check out the RE20/Samar AL95 comparison too!
While I love the ElectroVoice RE-series mics, the RE-20 here does what RE-20s often do to my ear: it's a bit "pinched" sounding. It seems to push the 3k-ish region in a way that I find unpleasant. Sort of an upper nasal region. I prefer the AL-95 here by a good bit. The RE-10, -11, -15, and -16 don't have that same pinched quality to them. Thanks so much for this example! There aren't enough AL-95 vids out there. You're a wonderful player, by the way!
Yeah there's definitely that boost in the higher frequencies with the RE20. I like it for when that cut is needed (and for live) but in a jazz combo setting, the AL95 is really really nice.
Yeah, man! 😊
Great little blues you guys cooked up!
Yeah, man! 👍
Thanks, love this song
Love it! So much fun. 😀👍
Thank you 🤗
This is so cool!!!
great video! thanks
Glad you liked it!
Its also easy to get a bit gappy and breathy with Blues for Alice but you have smoothed it out just fine. A good student piece for breath control I think.
Yes definitely - especially if you're keeping the intensity up! Was just playing this earlier today, actually - I need to re-record this as it's way more locked in now, both the head and the harmony for soloing! Thanks for listening!
@@matt-darwin Cheers. I took it up as a task to play with everyone of those backings starting at the top and am about 1/2 way through. Have recorded several to hear myself as review. I also find some of the keys are a bit mid range on the tenor. The Alto ones tend to work better as they pitch higher and I like that. Might post oneday , will link you in if I do. Roger
Those Yasuhiro Fujii backings and lead sheets a good value. Actually working on the same one now. The Aebersold slow hammond version backing works fine as well. Nice playing. Not always sure about the plain transition note selections of Fujii and I like your take. Good stuff.
I've been using the Phil Wilkinson organ and Guitar Improvisation ones a bit more recently; though neither have the proper intro.
Like!
Nice tone on this one...
Brother Super performance 🎷🎷 I like it very much 💞💞💞
Thank you so much
Amazing. I love your playing.
Thank you very much!
Lovely tone and playing. Thank you…. I had forgotten about this sounds, I might well dust it down and try it myself. Top end sounds beautiful, almost has qualities of a haunting oboe. Very tricky to playing slowly. Really great.
Thanks!
great sound
Thank you!
Bello
On a side note: which setup do you play here?
The mouthpiece is a 10MFan Alto Madness 8, with Boston Sax Shop Black 2.5 reeds. Sax is my Selmer Balanced Action from '35
You are always amazing me. It's wonderful play. Really you are a talented Sax 🎷 player 💞💞
Thanks!
@@matt-darwin welcome my brother 💞
Very Good!
