    Asian style city? Clayton has no life. I don't understand why they build a underground railway station there. What can you do in Clayton? An Asian style suburb near the MRT station would have multiple shopping precincts and full of activities and shops won't even close before 2am.

      G'day @haha-eg8fj - how are you? Thanks for contributing and taking time to do so. I can only agree. re: 'what can you do in Clayton'? I think more to service the students ( and international students) making their way to Monash Uni? Also probably the workforce of health care workers at the hospital precinct up Clayton Road...not to mention patients and specialists. Can't comment much beyond that as Clayton not really my area of expertise. But if I'm still around when SRL opens, will be more accessible for me by train from Blackburn. At present it's either a smart bus or trip to Richmond then all stops to Clayton. Anyways. Appreciate your feedback and interest. Apologies for late reply as been concentrating on podcast launch and metro tunnel content among other things. Links to both these on 'Home page Tab'. Thanks - hope to hear from you again soon(-sh).. Meanwhile the exploding suburbs of Melbourne's West and North have to make do with infrequent V/Line services. What a joke. Bin the joke of a project and resurrect the Western Rail Plan and the Somerton Link.

      G'day @mjcats2011 - how are you? Thanks for contributing and taking time to do so. I can only agree. Bonkers that planning focus seems to always be on eastern Melbourne side of CBD, especially given growth in the west and the Westgate Tunnel build. Recent reports are a rail corridor extension might be happening due to a recent overruling around a property where the owner didn't want to subdivide. Can't recall exact details. Agreed re: 'Western Rail Plan and the Somerton Link.' Anyways. Appreciate your feedback and interest. @@thiswalkinglife Yes and what makes me cross is that some think that you are anti Public Transport because you dare criticise the SRL and state objectively that Sydney's system is so much better. Some of these posters should go to the Northern Part of the Upfield line. What a disgrace. And that Stations like Melton and Caroline Springs served only hourly at weekends. Melbourne's PT sucks in large part.

    Great video. I'm not a great fan of mega towers because we all need our vitamin D but could live with some as long as we had good and harmonious, law abiding people living in them and working to better the community. Ironically though, in theme with your channel name, I wanted to mention that by having higher density with mixed use buildings, it would actually deliver a much stronger walking and community culture for those in the area where you can do your daily errands on foot and live healthier lifestyles where we dont need to jump in a car for every single errand or daily task.

    • @thiswalkinglife
      @thiswalkinglife 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      G'day @f2depth - how are you? Thanks for contributing and taking time to do so. Incredibly, The Victorian State Govt has left us in no doubt in recent days... Vitamin D is a luxury lifestyle option for all of us. re: "stronger walking culture" & "don't need to jump in car..." Just some thoughts... I agree but only in theory. Say you're a parent with 3 kids...in Sunbury. 1 kid is a budding afl contender and needs to be ferried to junior games in say Oakleigh. Kid #2 has band practice in Bacchus Marsh. Kid #3 has to be picked up at a certain time somewhere in eastern suburbs 'cos thats where grandparents live. I think for people who are used to such a lifestyle or come from a culture of living in towers where they don't kick footies or play cricket in the backyard...fine for them. See Box Hill... My circumstances are such I don't have a backyard, just a sliver wide enough for a washing line. My lifestyle luxury is a north sun that rotates through the sky from east to west daily. I have a great ground floor window view of this since 1990 in 1 bed unit. Taking the recently announced plans for towers in designated 'activity centres' to the '"nth" degree...I'm going to lose that view of the sky and have nothing but shadow to live in. Not only a bust for the Vitamin D factor but also mental health and probably property value as well. Anyways. Appreciate your feedback and interest. Apologies for late reply as been concentrating on podcast launch and metro tunnel among other things. Links to both these on 'Home page Tab'. Thanks - hope to hear from you again soon(-sh).. @@thiswalkinglife Hey thanks for the reply and great to know you've been busy with lots more content on the way. I'm sorry to hear you might lose the sun at your place through the new activity centres (if taken to the nth degree) but hopefully you're able to mobilise or even capitalise, since presumably you a little bit of time. The 50 new high density precincts was quite a shock and nothing less than seemingly flooding the property market with high density (although I dont know over what timeframe that is?). I _think_ the net effect will be a reduction in apartment prices which might good for those wanting to get a place to call their own perhaps. Buying an apartment as an investment isn't probably going to be the best but again, maybe that is a good thing. Why should some people make money just coz they got in earlier. Agree with what you're saying about the family lifestyle and how that would seem to be changing the great aussie dream. I think we'll cope on the whole. Cars, footy ovals and the arts are not going anywhere soon (if anything, they'll be the growth areas) We are facing an aging population and unfortunately we just can't all expect to buy quarter acre blocks in the same suburbs as our folks so we either build up or out or both. Happy travels to you and hope what i've written hasn't riled any feathers or anything.

    As a 30+ year resident of the City of Monash (and it's precedent LGAs), I find this project to be absolutely absurd and a complete waste of OUR tax money. Just on the Glen Waverley "underground station" itself, who in his/her right mind would build an underground station that requires SRL passengers to come up to ground level, walk across a TO BE CLOSED Coleman Parade and into the current above ground Glen Waverley Metro station/bus terminal??????? This is just another half-arsed "project" conjured up with those imbeciles in the Victorian Labour government to funnel OUR taxes to their rich mates and crooked unions!!!!! The latest local Glen Waverley MLA, John Mullahy, does not give a "tinker's cuss" to objections raised by locals, toeing the pathetic party line like the rest of the Labour Party drones. Unfortunately, we do not have a functioning Opposition in the Victorian Parliament, so they are letting "Burger Flipper" Jacinta Allan and "Invisible Man" John Mullahy get away with all of this. STOP THIS WASTE OF MONEY ON A PROJECT THAT NO ONE HERE WANTS!!!!!

I also have seen / experienced similar lack of authentic engagement by state and federal politicians, most recently at Surrey Hills/Mont Albert Level Crossing Removal 2023 (where a local dubbed SRL the 'stupid rail loop): * th-cam.com/play/PLk146SpJayffA1KoTdecxLUncWPH7gOTt.html Given this, the impact of SRL works is far greater than that you describe. I was quite taken aback with the 'precinct vision' for each site when released Boxing Day 2023. The idea behind these episodes is to replicate the 1.6km walk(s) at these sites and precincts. I want to provide Melbourne residents evidence of how the new planning announcement(s) are going to change our suburban skylines forever. I don't think the public realises how much impact 'the world's most livable city' will experience over next 10 to 15 years around our skyline(s). The Suburban Rail Loop is a transport project like no other in Victoria’s history. And it’s not just its enormous cost - the bill for the first stage could reach $34.5 billion - that is unprecedented. The project is also triggering a development boom. The state Labor government hopes to by 2056 cram twice as many residents as there are now and jobs into a 1.6-kilometre radius around each of the six new stations earmarked for the first stage: Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill. To reach that target, residential towers of up to 25 storeys will be allowed above most stations, while in Box Hill, a 50-storey tower has already been given the green light. The building spree is being expedited by the government’s Development Facilitation Program, which fast-tracks projects by bypassing the usual council planning hurdles. All up, the new high-rise towers are expected to deliver more than 70,000 homes to cater for Melbourne’s booming population, which is expected to hit 6.45 million by 2034 - an increase of more than 1 million on today’s population. I think some of this criticism holds a lot of merit. But it's worth pointing out that those guys from RMIT naturally hold a bit of a bias. They were happy enough to endorse the Metro Tunnel, which coincidentally connects directly to RMIT. Meanwhile the SRL, which for once focuses on suburban development rather than CBD development (ie nowhere near RMIT or Melb Uni), and directly connects to Box Hill Institute, La Trobe Uni, Monash Uni, and Deakin Uni naturally has plenty of emeritus professors from those univesities endorsing the project. Obviously they hold their own bias too when they endorse it, just as the RMIT ones do when they endorse Metro Tunnel. But it's probably worth seeking out critics or endorsements from more neutral academics, if possible.

    • @BigBlueMan118
      @BigBlueMan118 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stormblessed2673 I agree with your point overall but the point about the Metro Tunnel is that the Tunnel is very clearly needed as it removes a massive bottleneck in the rail network and allows the City Loop to be reconfigured to increase legibility and efficiency as well as throughput. It also only cost 1/3 of what SRL East is going to cost, and only maybe 1/10 of what the full SRL program will end up costing so the decision is easier, plus the beaurocrats that run everything these days have probably found a way to make the BCR look more attractive on the Metro Tunnel than they could do on SRL. It also helps than Metro Tunnel is part of the existing system, whereas SRL will be a completely independent standalone operation (which is good) at least SRL North and SRL East will be.

    • @stormblessed2673
      @stormblessed2673 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BigBlueMan118 Yeah good points mate. I'm actually fully in support of the Metro Tunnel, was just raising it as an example. Easy to find many academics from, for example, La Trobe and Monash who are as supportive of SRL as the RMIT academics are of Metro Tunnel. But yeah I agree, purely as a transport project metro tunnel is cheaper and has a better business case. The only thing I'd say in favour of the SRL (not instead, but in addition to metro tunnel) is that if you consider it an urban renewal, housing and transport project then it starts to make a lot more sense. The Gov are wanting to decentralise Melbourne so it's not so CBD oriented, with more medium density housing and business/services around hubs - suburbs in the middle ring around Melbourne. The SRL stations, new hubs, will be connected by public transport in a ring - allowing travel to adjacent hubs. Pretty important, considering Melbourne's trains currently only go in and out of the CBD and allow no adjacent travel between lines. A lot of new housing will be built too -- which it should go without saying -- we are in desperate need of. Does it stack up? I don't know, but I reckon in theory at least it's a good idea. Though because of how expensive it is, maybe I'm wrong and in practice it's beyond our means.

That’s a lot of people to manage in a city where much of the health, education and transport infrastructure is already under pressure. www.theage.com.au/politics/victoria/rail-loop-s-unprecedented-building-boom-requires-careful-planning-20240625-p5joh8.html Burwood Draft Precinct Plan | This is a visual representation of theDraft Precinct Vision. * chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/bigbuild.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/820089/SRL-East-Burwood-Draft-Precinct-Vision-Paper.pdf It identifies where change is likely to occur as Burwood grows over time, supported by enhanced connectivity, improved community amenities, diversified retail and commercial areas and increased local job opportunties. Wow, you presented some different perspectives of the new Parkville station. The whole area now looks more active transport friendly. Great job! I can't wait for the opening.

      [edited below ] G'day @user-wy4ci7yj6b, thanks for the very kind feedback. Sincere apologies for late response. This channel dormant for 12 months or so and have not been attending recently to comments etc. I appreciate you taking time with such insightful feedback. The idea is to announce what's coming up. I've covered the entire worksite areas of all stations since the announcement of Metro Tunnel as best I can. This recent footage will showcase entire site(s) of all new stations. I also am champing at the bit re: 'the opening'. Arden Station fully finished, Parkville about 85% to 90% completed. Anzac same. You'll see more content here as I've new equipment with ability to present far more stable footage. Mostly this will be of recent level crossing removals (Blackburn & Surrey Hills/Mont Albert) as well as Metro Tunnel stations and works around Suburban Rail Loop sites, especially Box Hill. I want to contribute to growth of game by broadcasting content to smart TV's world-wide. Not game play, but everything content related around it to football industry and audience. Thanks again for taking time with contribution - much appreciated. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

      @@thiswalkinglife Hi, thanks for replying. I didn't think comments I'd made like that would be linked to the football stuff I'd posted. My videos were only of games my son was playing in. I enjoyed the process of making the videos and presenting them online, and I thought I polished my technique over time, but it was all primarily for players and their families. I think my later videos had restricted access. Your project sounds really constructive, and I can't understand why the clubs haven't replied to your contact. They could be holding out for the sale of imaging to some broadcaster. The second division looks like a very promising competition though. Good luck with your efforts, and I'll look forward to your future videos.

      G'day @user-wy4ci7yj6b, thanks for the very kind feedback. Try where possible to acknowledge time taken to leave feedback. Sincere apologies - can confirm I have not linked any of your video's. Merely checked out your YT channel to discern where viewers are located. Also can confirm have not, cannot access restricted videos. I've edited my original ppost above to delete ref to that topic. Hope this ok - let me know if not. re: A-League 2nd division - perhaps I'll try a different tack/strategy. I'm a complete outsider to soccer in general. Thanks for this. More Metro Tunnel footage on the way...Much appreciated.

      G'day @lynettemellor8627, thanks for the feedback. Sincere apologies for exceedingly late response. This channel dormant for 12 months or so and have not been attending to comments etc. Box Hill Cemetary great for a detour when walking from Blackburn to Box Hill. Also, two of my neighbours buried there in the 70's & 80's. They were parents of my piano teacher (lessons as a kid in the 70's.). Amazing too that every 2nd or 3rd burial plot is a soldier/serviceman from WW1 - even old Diggers who lived into their 50's to 70's. What a generation those people were. During early weeks of lockdown(s), I thought showcase of cemeteries would be good topic and audience-ready.
