Women fought in WW2 both front and everywhere else on the line but yeah first it was they didn't fight on the front lines in the war then it was they didn't fight period in Russia they had 800,000 women alone in just the military as machine gunners, snipers, piolets, tankmen, demolitions aka all capacities but it wasn't just the Russians who had women fighting on the front lines in or outside of uniforms. For Russia's unofficial numbers they had 400,000 at least on the front lines this doesn't count individuals like the woman who used the Fighting Girlfriend she funded her own tank and fought or Onake Obavva who killed 100 men in the war. Russia also estimates they trained 4,500 women in heavy machine guns and 7,800 in light machine guns. Parisian forces where around 27,000. And of course tons and tons of the unoffical fighters like the gorillas, Parisians, freedom fighters, ect so we really don't know how many women fought on the front lines in just WW2 because of the low score keeping and the erasure afterwards that's a very key thing no one talks about worse then the US shaming of women in work post war. I've got women fighting in the Napoleon Wars, we had a female naval commander at Thermopylae, the French & Indian wars, The Civil War at nearly every battle, Little Big Horn had women on the field fighting, the Mexican War of Independence, the Castilian Succession War, on and on nearly every battle ever fought has had one or more women fighting in it officially or hidden. The argument of their service, bravery, competence, and sacrifice isn't worth talking about is as stupid to say that about men. And we don't even cover the children soldiers of the world war both unofficial and uniformed veterans. Women's choices to fight disguised or not of any wars in the past were as varied as men sometimes patriotism, sometimes to live a thrilling life, other times money, sometimes to fight or find loved ones, I'm really here just to hear what you had to say info wise & no ones really supplied a bunch of info for you to give you tiny, tiny list I'll do more then WW2 with a few examples the cry of historical accuracy is a way just to keep the erasure of women taking up arms & fighting.
