Another score I've not heard before. Thanks again, Rob. No matter what he or anyone else thinks about it, surely Robert Folk will always be most-well known for the Police Academy theme? If I'm talking film music to people around my age (mid 40s) and they don't know Folk's name, I start singing that melody and they know it instantly. That's Folk's "Salieri plays Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" moment.

Robert Folk composed fantastic scores for films that did not deserve them. If only he was able to score Goldeneye.

Among De Palma's composers: Bernard Herrmann, Ennio Morricone, Dave Grusin, Pino Donaggio, John Williams, Danny Elfman....😮😮😮😮😮😮😮

Snake Eyes has some phenomenal camera work. My favourite shot is when a POV shot turns into a third-person shot without cutting. It's a moment of pure cinema, the kind of shot that makes me explode with delight. It also has possibly the slowest, longest zoom in in film history over the end credits.

I rewatched Snake Eyes a few months ago and loved it more than ever. No one makes movies like De Palma anymore, and it's cinema's loss. A few days later I went to the only surviving second-hand music shop in town and the CD soundtrack was there for $10 (approx. US$6.60). Good score, in both senses.

Christopher Lennertz done some Bond games as well I believe? Not my area, games soundtracks, but still interesting Robert, thks.

Of course, we both know Christopher Lennertz for his fantastic score to the television series Lost in Space! I have to admit that I did find myself enjoying the score, it definitely had a Firefly feel. Matter of fact some of those pieces I was remembering in my mind certain scenes from the show Firefly. I really love the opening theme when it went from the cowboy type music to that about 30 seconds of orchestral music. That piece was fantastic stuff!

I think I will have to give this a second or even a third go around because what I had visualized in my mind was not the music that I heard. However, it was not a complete waste because I really enjoyed the piece Mountains Theme! I also caught the overall theme which I think is interesting. I have not seen the movie yet, but I have been told that it is only OK. Curiosity might get the best of me there and I’ll end up watching it at some point.

The minute you said David Stewart, I knew that I knew who that was, but I couldn’t think of who. I really wanted to pause to check, but I didn’t. Anyway, I have to say he did a fairly good job of composing music to a Christmas adjacent movie. I would almost identify it as a kind of an airy kind of atmospheric kind of sound. Very impressed with the multitude of different instruments that he used to create his sound. Definitely a good score for a movie that I have never seen.

I had no idea that he had done scores for two of the movies, that’s quite a feather in his cap. I definitely enjoyed more of his music for this television series than what I heard from with forever knight. He has definitely moved up a few spots in my estimation. If I am ever lucky enough to come across some of these scores, you can be sure they will definitely be mine.

I used to think that Diehard was a Christmas movie as well, and I argued passionately about it with some people. However, when I saw Bruce Willis say that it wasn’t it sort of solved the issue for me. If the main guy known for Diehard is telling you it’s not a Christmas movie then to me at least it just isn’t. I have to admit, though you make a compelling case. If I don’t get back to you buddy have a wonderful new year.

Well, you and I have something else in common, we both have the original Journey copy, and we both have the Banner Saga trilogy! I cannot wait for you to listen to both! Although I know you’ve listened to journey I’m not sure how much of the banner saga you have heard. I thoroughly loved the picks of music that you had! They were a joy to listen to. However, even though I only watched three or four episodes I just couldn’t quite get into it. Listening to this music however has got me thinking I might wanna give it a second chance, if I can find it.

I enjoyed the music more than the show, to be honest.

On Niche scores, like SEAQUEST, it would be difficult to recoup the production costs. It would be cool if LLL just focused on additional volumes with music not on this deluxe album OR a complete box with everything.

Great video Robert, I remember doing a video on Alan Rickman where he talks about Die Hard and apologies if I'm going off pist here, but he talks about where he pretends to be a hostage. That was his idea and it was put into the film. Alan Rickman and Michael Kamen were taken too early. I will just say wow! I have definitely never heard of this guy as well, but this is definitely a great score I may have to look up at some point. That opening theme took you on every emotional roller coaster, from dark, almost sorrowful music that almost spoke of the evils of war into the bombastic, deep throated, percussion onto war part and then right back down into the sorrowful feeling! And then Blitzkrieg, right when you said I could see this in a live Orchestra that’s the first thing I thought of, and it fits perfectly! This truly is a wonderful score and I really enjoyed listening to the clips

Definitely accomplishing your goal, I have never heard of the show and never heard of the composer. As you know, I kinda have a mixed history with synthesizers, and this one was a little bit of a mix bag, but I did enjoy the Dark Knight suite!

It is exciting to find an Intrada in the wild. I'll loved spotting Intrada's release of "The Conversation" in a Soho record shop in the 1990s.. In the glory days of HMV and Tower Records, I found the Intrada expansion (the original expansion) of "The Last Starfighter" in one of them.

"Stanley & Iris" was the first John Williams soundtrack to be a Varese Sarabande premiere release along with the movie...

I used to sometimes find nice surprises of soundtracks in charity shops, but soooo much less these days. It's like they're stocking less and less music of any genre. But whenever I take a trip to a different town/city, I keep an eye out just on the off-chance. You got some good stuff there though ... seems to be quite a lot of British stuff - Fenton, Lock, Nyman, Hartley... "This is 'The Lover', by _miaow_." 😂

I will never forget the first time I saw this film a few years ago. I was literally and figuratively, breathless! And I also remember explicitly how well the music complimented the film. Thank you so much for doing this.

Stanley & Iris is an underrated 5-star masterpiece. Those first three cues are some of the best melody writing the man has ever done! Superb score that, you're right, not to many people know of!

Rob, you're firing up my memories of being a budding film music fanatic in the 90s. I adored Isham's A River Runs Through It, but haven't heard it in years, but that melody brought it all back. Also nice to hear some love for Patrick Doyle. I saw Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing ten times at the cinema in 1994, pretty much entirely for the bravura sequences highlighting Doyle's rapturous score.

Good video. I was fortunate to see this film on the big screen. What memories! Thank you for the insight on the composer.
