In this video i'm making a standing lamp and challenging the idea that "art can't be functional, otherwise its just design"... What was supposed to be a simple project turned out to have a few learning curves. But the best projects always do.

Can I make a designer coffee table in my garage?

I made a coffee table for my mum from timber offcuts, based off a designer coffee table she couldn't afford. I'll take you through the process of how I made this using a table saw, a router, angle grinder and a small hobby welder along with a few basic hand tools. Who says you need a fancy workshop to create cool things!
DIY Modern Fire Pit Seating!

In this video i'll show you how I made a couple of fire pit benches using entirely salvaged materials, all for free! (excluding screws). The design is simple and can be made with an assortment of basic power tools. Although I used a welder and table saw this could be replaced by a circular saw and additional timber legs instead of metal pins. The timber is old Oregon (Douglas Fir) roof rafters ...

You know what that second block would have worked. Ties in with the rusty bar. Kind of like a bit of rebar.

I thought this too, but preferred a cleaner look on this one. The great thing about concrete blocks though, i'm now stuck with it - maybe another lamp in future. Cheers!

Design is useful. Art is useless. The Mona Lisa is beautiful but not useful. Therefore, art. Your sculpture, as it sat in the garden was beautiful, but not useful. You have elevated your sculpture by giving it a purpose. In the process you created a beautiful design.

I'm pretty sure the wood turns gray from the ultraviolet radiation produced by the ark flash of the welder. It's why you need to cover your skin when you weld, so you don't get a horrible sunburn.

Hi, your channel has very interesting and entertaining videos. I'm not a woodworker, but I love watching videos. I live in Portugal and here we have a saying that, translated literally, will be more or less like this: "With 2 sticks you can build a cabin", which means, with few resources you can achieve incredible works :)... I hope that the channel grow. I found it through a mysterious algorithm, which made me sign up... accept a hug from the antipodes

I like that you did not give up. It walks and talks like a lamp but it looks like a work of art. I love it! Do you think maybe you could make a low dolly on wheels to stand it on seeing that the concrete gives a bit of weight...just so that moving it around would be easier?
