If I Had a Hammer (also known as "The Hammer Song") is a protest song written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays in support of the Progressive movement. It was originally recorded by the Weavers, a folk music quartet composed of Seeger, Hays, Ronnie Gilbert and Fred Hellerman. It later went on to become a #10 hit for Peter, Paul and Mary in 1962. Just one year later, it reached #3, when recorded by Trini Lopez, in 1963.

When we give up hate, we allow love to enter into our hearts. And with love, there is nothing we can't accomplish... as a people, as a nation, and as a planet!
