The BYD Dolphin is a smaller, more affordable EV hatchback aimed at city commuters. It features a futuristic, curvy design with playful touches like floating door handles and wave-inspired dashboard accents. Inside, it offers a high-tech 12.8-inch rotating screen, abundant storage, and a quality feel that surpasses its price point. The Dolphin comes in two versions - the Dynamic Standard Range with a 44.9 kWh battery offering 340 km of range, and the Premium Extended Range with a larger 60.48 kWh battery offering 427 km of range.
In terms of driving, the Dolphin feels agile on city streets, with instant torque and responsive acceleration. However, it struggles slightly on highways due to its compact size and thinner tires. The interior is spacious for a small EV, with a surprising amount of rear legroom. While its boot space is limited, it offers practical solutions like a false boot floor and split-folding rear seats. The ride is comfortable for short trips, but large wheels and low-profile tires can make bumps on rough roads more noticeable.
Which to Choose?
Urban Driving: If your primary focus is city driving, the Dolphin is the better choice, offering a lower price, agility, and excellent range for daily commutes.
More Space and Comfort: The Atto 3 provides more space, better comfort, and a more upscale feel, making it ideal for those who need a family-friendly EV.
