Hi all, my name is Graeme and welcome to my channel! Being a graphic designer is very satisfying, but music is also a passion of mine and this channel explores that other side of me. I'm proud of my years playing with Southwestern Ontario based blues rock band Westside so would like to share with you our live, studio and candid recordings of our cover and original music.
This channel also showcases my own personal musical projects and experiments.

Santana's "Black Magic Woman" | Live Cover
This is a live recording of my old band Westside, performing "Black Magic Woman" based on the Santana version (though actually a Fleetwood Mac song). We often played it as a set closer. I actually shortened the extended jam. Hope you like it!

Jimi Hendrix' "Little Wing" | Blues Cover #acousticcover #blues #slideguitar #slideguitarblues

This is my Delta Blues-style cover of Jimi Hendrix' "Little Wing" with just me, my acoustic guitar and slide. No vocals. This is basically what I imagine it might sound like if it was played as a delta blues song. Mind you, if Jimi was around in the 1930s or Robert Johnson wrote it, it would sound a lot better! Slide Guitar Solo - Improv #slideguitar #slideguitarsolo #slideguitarblues #blues

Just a short little jam (actually two pasted together) with me noodling on my electric and slide. With all the acoustic playing lately, my electric guitar was getting jealous so thought I should give it some love..and so I don't get rusty! :) I may do more of these short one minute improvisation jams (longer than that and I may get the tap on the shoulder to get off the stage, so to speak!) as ...

This is my Delta Blues-style cover of AC/DC's "What's Next to the Moon" with just me, my acoustic guitar and slide. AND, first time ever - I've added some vocals as well from yours truly. I didn't sing all the verses (didn't want to push my luck with my singing!) I generally avoid doing vocals, but for this song, which I really wanted to do, I found that playing the vocal lines on the guitar di...

wow horrible.....way to butcher a great song
no joke this is the song that got Brian the job!
dead serious... I love what you are doing and what to help.
"Rock and Roll.... aint' noise pollution" ........ no need for subs..... the strings speak volumes.
lovit
we NEED to talk...............😎
Uh oh I'm not in trouble am I? 😀
@@Bluesrockguy I believe the proper response would be somewhere between "Dave's not here man" and "What were we just talking about???" 🤣🤪
OK..... when are you gonna finish it??????????????????? NO JOKE..... my favorite line is "Long law looking for a finger print........." and the DROP slide before that!!!!!! P L E A S E ! ! ! ! ! !
I'll add more vocals to this for sure! I may not be able to do Bon's high notes though! 😆I have a few I'm working on but will definitely let you know!
@@Bluesrockguy Nice!
Sounds great,exellent👍
Many thanks! 😀
Took me a few days to get to it, nicely done! I was not expecting the singing, it adds a lot to the piece!
Glad you like it! 😀I wasn't expecting the singing either! lol It wasn't part of my initial plan but In the end I felt it need some vocals. I don't usually sing in this style but I had fun doing it. Who knows, maybe I'll do more singing in the future.
@@Bluesrockguy I can't sing but IF.... IF you ever tackle that 16 song we talked about........... I'd like to..... welll.......... I can talk........ keep trying........ it's a hard one........... but well worth it. WAIT......... *WHEN* you do "Kick you when you're down" PLEASE let me do the backing "OHHHHH NNNNNNNNOOOOOOO" no other lyrics needed...... just the riff and "OHHH NOOO!!"
@@user-wm3bf7pi3u I definitely want to do that song and maybe now that I've come out of my shell a bit re vocals, I may sing it too. I might do two tracks for it though - I'd like to try simulating the keyboards with the slide but would have to record them separately. If I can do it before Veteran's Day and / or Remembrance Day that would be ideal.
OK!!!!... i usually listen to things at 1.5 speed, the commentary on most vids seems slowed down... took me a second to realize this was a little OFF.........
This was awesome dude!
Thanks a lot, man - I'm glad you suggested some GnR. I may do more from them..."Patience", maybe?
@@Bluesrockguy Thanks! I'm glad you made a GnR cover too! More GnR sounds like a great idea to me!
@@thehouseofronin9209 It's funny because Slash recently did a great cover of Howling Wolf's "Killing Floor" with Brian Johnson which is older rural blues!
@@Bluesrockguy i saw that video too. They did a bang up job
Sweet cover dude
Big thanks- glad you like it! 😀
@@Bluesrockguy definitely 👍
Where are you from?
Wasn't Aretha's version a cover of Fontella Bass' version?
Argh - You're absolutely right! Thanks!
@@Bluesrockguy You're welcome, I'm probably just older than you.
@@williesayulita And probably wiser too!
@@Bluesrockguy That's very kind of you, as opposed to so many who comment here, you're taking the high road. Much appreciated.
@@williesayulita Glad to make your TH-cam experience more enjoyable! 😀
So, just a little bit of background. Sweet Child was written by Axl for Erin Everly (daughter of Don Everly of the Everly Brothers) when he was dating her. I would have LOVED to be a fly on the wall the first time she brought him home to meet dad!
Wow, I had no idea! That's hilarious too - I suspect that meeting had a few awkward silences! 😆
@@Bluesrockguy Sometimes the story behind the song is just as interesting as the song itself! Oh, I’m sure it did, at the very least!
@@khodges5497 For sure. That's what makes music so magical - songs are often greater than the sum of its parts!
Mantap
Terima kasih!
Delta Blues saya sangat menyukainya👍🏽
Terima kasih banyak - banyak!
Just thought I’d point out, that it was written by Merle Kilgore and Anita Carter. Anita’s version is the original, not Johnny’s.
Thanks for pointing that out! I've always assumed it was JC.
@@Bluesrockguy That’s a common misconception. And I can’t recommend AC’s original version, highly enough! It sounds completely different.
@@khodges5497 Cool, will definitely check it out - thanks!
@@Bluesrockguy I always love when I can turn someone on to something they’ve never heard before!
Me too. My hope with this channel is that fans of heavy rock and other genres who have not really listened to old blues will learn more about it. BTW Anita's version is beautiful . Thanks again.
Great playing. Love it!
Thanks! I had just bought a new slide before playing it. It's still glass but it's thicker and has a warmer tone. Glad you like it!
Nice!
Thanks - glad you like it! 😀
You’re on a role lately. My favourite Stevie Wonder song!
Great! :) I love Stevie and really wanted to do one of his songs - this one seemed the best fit for this.
@@Bluesrockguy This and Superstition, are probably the closest that would. Because they’re both so funk based.
@@khodges5497 Yeah I considered Superstitious as well. Sire Duke is very funky too but I couldn't get it to work.
@@BluesrockguyI can see Sir Duke not quite translating to delta blues.
@@khodges5497 I agree. However a few years ago, I heard a blues band do a really cool bluesy version of it which i really liked - just can't remember what it sounded like!
This is awesome brother!
Big thanks! Funny enough, I never sat down to learn how to play this song when I younger but so glad I took the time recently to revisit it. Such a great song and glad you like it!
@@Bluesrockguy it definitely is a great song! Thanks for sharing it
Gonna point out, the CCR version is a cover. This is a Screamin’ Jay Hawkins song.
You're right! I should've caught that - mind you, most people associate it with CCR. Thanks for pointing that out. It's like "Black Magic Woman" which many relate to Santana but is actually a Fleetwood Mac song.
@@Bluesrockguy Yep, and the original Fleetwood Mac version is far superior.
@@khodges5497 I'll have to listen to FM's version again, it's been years but I remember liking it. You may be right, but it's obvious my old band's version is superior to both! 😆
@@Bluesrockguy I’m a huge fan of Peter Green’s era of FM, he’s hands down one of my favourite guitarists. You really can’t go wrong with anything from that era. It’s just perfect blues rock,
@@khodges5497 It's a shame that more people aren't away of Peter Green. While his work with John Mayall was short lived, it deserves a listen for anyone who loves blues.
Ya man
Excellent take gentlemen 👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Sorry for my slow response!
Nice
Thanks!😀
Very well played my friends!🎸 love your sound!!
Many thanks - glad you like it! 😀
Love this one! Such a classic metal tune! But sounds amazing here!
Big thanks! 😀And just so you know, there will be more metal in the near future!
@@Bluesrockguy you're welcome dude! Sounds good to me!
BTW.... sub #69 😛😝🤪😜
I guess you did ;-)
The original subject matter is so bleak, but if you strip it down it's a jumpin' jive!
I gotta check, did you ever do Flip, Flop and Fly? that's the vibe I'm getting.
@@user-wm3bf7pi3uSure did. It's posted here too. Maybe I should rename it to "Flip, Flop and Fly to the Hills!"
@@Bluesrockguy nice
NICE!!!
You told me about this before it came out, 13 days and a new pressure tank for the pump and here I am...... Sounds good, nicely done. Off to your next clip, thanks.
Better late than never! lol Thanks and glad you like it.
@@Bluesrockguy Have you ever considered doing 1916 by Motorhead? It's gut wrenching as it is, in Delta Blues Style it would rip a mortal man apart.
@@user-wm3bf7pi3u I must admit I don't know that song but you've made me very curious. I have recently played with the idea of doing Ace of Spades. I'm working on other metal songs too. Won't give it away but if you run to the hills you might find a clue...
@@Bluesrockguy I love 2Cellos take on that one.
@@Bluesrockguy When Lemmy joined Hawkwind he played the 6-string, they had 3-4 of them but needed a bass player. He'd never played bass and didn't have one so he went out bought one then played in like a 6-string. Then he got kicked out of HW and formed Motorhead.
Excellent slide guitar 🎸 Enjoyed this and think I will try it 😊
Thanks a lot😀 I only realized once I started playing it that slide is a wonderful tool for this kind of song! And for sure try it out! In open G, it's basically played on the open chord (G), the fifth fret (C) and the 10th fret (F). Happy strumming!
@@Bluesrockguy cool 😎 thanks 👍
Awesome cover brother!
Thanks! It was fun to play!
@@Bluesrockguy ill be it was!
Excellent slide guitar 😊 Cool video effects 😎
Many thanks! In some ways this was the most challenging one for me that I've done so far so I appreciate your feedback. 😀
@@Bluesrockguy Angus was so good at making a guitar sing actual words, I need to check your back log for Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution.

thanks loved the zepp Black dog so now i'm hooked...
Great! And if you love Zeppelin, I have another one in the works. Stay tuned!😀
really enjoyed this!
Thanks! I enjoyed playing an AC/DC song which for reason doesn't get the recognition that other ac/dc songs get.
I enjoyed this. That solo stung me good! Well done.
Thanks so much! Always a fun one to play - I posted a live version of this song as well.
Hey from Holland.....This is !!🔥!! CHEERS
Wow, many thanks from Canada - glad you like it! 😀

Awesome. Would love to see a tab.
Thanks! I wish I could, most of it was improvised so there's no tab for it. Though I think there's a way to digitally convert audio files to tab, is there not? I did actually video record this as well - I just didn't post it. Would that help? Also, a little tip - this was done with an open D tuning.
Great cover 😎🎸
Thanks! I didn't play that gig but we used to play it a lot. Our singer could really belt it out!

Thanks! This one was surprisingly tricky for me so I'm glad you approve!😀
@@Bluesrockguy I can only imagine. I play a little as well, and could only dream of playing like this
@@thehouseofronin9209 Haha-Thanks! If you haven't already explored them yet, try out some open tunings. This was done in open G. BTW, "have a drink on me" will be up in a few minutes.
@@Bluesrockguy cool thanks for the tip! I'll be tuning in to the new one too
@@thehouseofronin9209 😄Nice pun!
Sounds fantastic! 🎸😎
THATS AWESOME~! 🤘
Thanks - rock on!
I could absolutely hear Robert Johnson playing this.
Wow, thanks! Aside from the Hell based themes AC/DC used in their songs, it's clear that they had a deep appreciation of that old blues spirit.
@@Bluesrockguy I say that as a huge fan of the blues, particularly its early stuff. But yeah, you can hear a bit of blues influence in the early stuff, the longer they went on, not so much.
@@khodges5497I agree. Songs like "Ride On" or "Midnight Rambler" were less common in, say, the mid / late 1980s and on. The influence is still there, but it's not represented as directly as the early Bon days.
Great Cover - shows the basis of this song very nice!
