Spear Ele Gaming
Less damage than staff, even lower damage on weaver because bugs+lack of 3 skill. The dual skills are a slap in the face to the weaver mechanic overall.
Fulgor is incredibly bugged, doesn't inherit any of the 3 buffs, doesn't generate energy on catalyst, doesn't really do much damage either. The 3 buffs themselves get milled on auto attacks.
The timing of the Etch skills is incredibly narrow. Lag can easily make you miss the cast, or even downright interrupt yourself wen trying to set up the Etching. Some of the 3 skills have cast times which conflict with casting your Etch resulting in cancelling the Etch.
Volcano deals almost no meaningful damage compared to meteor shower. Meteor (4) is hard to land, and sometimes doesn't register a hit even if it connects with a target. After using your fire skills, you have zero followup compared to staff where you can follow with water 2/air 2, weaver dual skills, etc.
Most of the damage you see is coming form glyph of storms, ice bow, relentless fire, and resetting the fire skills. Overall, very low damage on average. The burst exists for the opener and that's about it. Zero followup due to long cooldowns and impractical skill setup conditions. At least on staff you can reposition with flash/burning retreat.
The weapon needs significant work/rework to be even on par with staff. SPvP is even more miserable. Weaver dual skills need to be actual skills and not a bad copy of hammer 3 buffs. Where was the ingenuity from the pistol dual skills for spear?

More roaming from this week, halfway through the vid I swapped to dragon stats with fireworks runes. You get a ton of vitality with high crit damage while maintaining ~80% crit chance under buffs.

Some WvW roaming on catalyst. I used hammer and dagger/focus to see what stuck. Hammer is pretty good but suffers from being very slow, much like staff. Relentless Fire is so much fun. Build suffers a bit from condi but what else is new for ele, swapping signet for catalyst heal might help with that. Building energy on hammer is hard 1v1, but very easy 1vX. Sorry to post on an old video, but now that spear is out, and the auto doesn’t eat the skill 3 buffs, the etchings are longer, and some skills have expanded utility, have your thoughts on spear changed, or do you still see it as worse than staff.
I haven't gotten a chance to test in openfield, but it feels much better. The 3 buffs no longer mill on auto attacks, except for earth 3 (which is fine and good). Fulgor is still a bit weird, I think its kinda silly to make a skill that is an AoE but work via debuff. The 5 skill etchings still get canceled but its copeable with some mindfulness. Weaver is much much better to play but worse than Catalyst. The longer etchings are much much nicer to play with. The 4 skills are still a bit tough to use, being precise is harder in pvp than in wvw. I might make another video if I get a chance to record some openfield gaming.
haven't actually played ele spear in the beta. to me it seems relativly close to the warder type gameplay of gw1 even tho it doesn't really have the same effects. haven't really used them there even tho some are pretty nasty. like ward against melee that forces slow movement. ward against elements was hardly used because bugged. the only elite skill ward also didn't pay off unlike the other classes equivalents. I hope they tune the weapon a bit and increase timewindow for skill 5 and change so that buffs from 3 counts for skills 2-4 only. it is really sad since it looks pretty cool.

Not to sound negative, the video is great and the fights too but it is really difficult to see what a build can do when a Zerg is pumping energy life and boons with heals. Also the enemies being fought matter. Just saying to everyone to not expect same results as with any class/build video out there.
