Thriller - Michael Jackson (Tenor Sax Cover by Jason Hamilton)
Sheet music @ tomplay.com/
I've been doing outdoor sax performances for Halloween to add to our enthusiastic decoration setup, and naturally I had to do Thriller. It's fun to get the kids and their parents dancing.
I am surprised how well my trusty SM57 worked in picking up the sax and not the background noise. It's not as nice as a ribbon mic and definitely requires some EQ, but I like that this is the actual recorded audio from that night without any overdubbing.
This is a really cool small busking set up I have been working on that I feel works really well. I have a mic plugged into a Lexicon Lambda USB audio interface (on a shelf attached to my mic stand), which plugs into a Microsoft Surface tablet running Reaper. Reaper has the sheet music video + backing track (in this case from Tomplay at tomplay.com/ ), and then I have a separate track recording the mic. The mic track has realtime monitoring on so that I also get realtime reverb as I'm playing. So you get decent quality recording plus any VST effects you want live, which is a lot of fun!
Sax setup is a Theo Wanne Lakshmi 7* with #3 Boston Sax Shop black box reeds, although like most sax players, I'm often messing with different combinations in the never ending pursuit of a better sound. Cheers!

A Nat King Cole favorite of mine to play. This one really lets you dump a lot of raw emotion into it, definitely gives me "rainy day" sax vibes!

Adele songs are fantastic to play on saxophone with their soulful melodies and expressive inflections. I've always like playing this one in the park when I'm out busking and getting couples to dance.

This is a great song to rock out on while still allowing for a bit of jazzy interpretation. Enjoy!
Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World (Tenor Sax cover by Jason Hamilton)

Sometimes it's nice to feel positivity that can shine through life's adversities. Every time I hear this I can see Louis Armstrong's big, toothy smile in my mind, and remind myself of all the amazing people I have in my life and the beautiful place I call home. This was a lot of fun to play and try to stylize in my own way, I hope you like it. Cheers! Feel free to turn on the captions if you wa...

Amazing Jason 👌❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥹
There's a lot going on right now between COVID and social issues, so I thought it would be nice to put out a little bit of positivity into the mix for everyone.
