Dad's Van
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 25 มี.ค. 2019
Welcome to the Dad's Van channel! When I was 41 when I decided to buy a van and convert it with my kids. It's been an adventure! With all the things that I have been doing to my van I wanted to make it easier for you guys to have this experience as well. My goal is to make these videos quick and easy to learn from so you can learn from my mistakes / successes. I really appreciate any donations as they are all optional but help motivate us to make more videos. Hopefully I can create a community with all the van lifers like me and we can share in this experience together.

Clearing Sprinter SRS fault code with iCarSoft MBII
มุมมอง 28K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Clearing Sprinter SRS fault code with iCarSoft MBII
I did this and it worked. After about 2 hours of driving SRS came back on. If I do the scan again the SRS is a pass on the icarsoft and when clearing fault data anyway the SRS and airbag symbol wont go away. I only need to do this temporarily so it will pass an MOT. For whatever reason garages wont fix my SRS. I live in my van and have my MOT in a few days. Im stuck
Dan your video is still the best one out there for the yeti integration and Sprinter. At 33:30 you show everything connected under the driver’s seat. Am I assuming correctly that it was too tight to get the fuse inside the battery case as you were showing earlier in the video and instead you ran a positive cable off of the bus bar in the battery case to the additional bus bar you installed under the seat in the end?
The new / recall replacement Yeti link comes with a fuse, but I did my integration before that was available. I put a 100 amp fuse at the bus bar in the battery case ( see 29:00) to protect the positive wire from there to the bus bar under the drivers seat. Then I used an 80A circuit breaker to protect the positive cable run to the back of the van where the Yeti/link is located. I chose a circuit breaker there instead of a fuse so I could simply reset it (reach in from side and do by hand) instead of having to replace a fuse (would require removing seat) if it ever had issues on the road.
@@DadsVan thanks for the clarification. Again nice work.
Thank you and good luck with your build!
And it got recalled a total of 2 times. Now they are using a thicker gauge wire AND ditched the 2 pin connectors they were using, are using the MP120 connector click connector that was used from the Yeti 1250 days. Goal Zero really screwed this one up, I truly don't know why they didn't use the MP120 ones from the beginning (I guess cost, the MP120 is a plastic connector, the EC8 was a proprietary molded plug). In addition, they updated all of the ring terminal add-on cables and added in-line fuses for the Yeti tanks. When the Yeti Tanks were originally shipped, they did not have any in-line fuses. It's mind boggling how badly Goal Zero messed this up. And now the Yeti Pro 4000 issues with firmware.
It’s awesome, thank you for a thorough instructions, definitely took care of the Srs error on my 2019 sprinter while Mercedes dealership locally estimated $2600 for the fix!
Wow that’s crazy! I would find another dealership for service. Glad it worked. Good luck with your build!
A review on Amazon mentions that the window flaps have a hole for draining any pooled water on the bottom of the flap that unfortunately allows insects to crawl into the tent. Is this accurate?
Is your bed set up as permanent or can you move panels after you get up to allow more room inside the van?
They can be removed. Eights bolts total to remove all three panels, or just loosen two to slide one panel out (in order front to back). Good luck with your build!
Just what I was looking for. Thank you very much for explaining in perfect detail . Subbed
Thanks for watching and good luck with your build!
Hi, what kind of spacers diameter on ebay? Too Many choice. Thanks
For these speakers it was the 6.5” speaker adapter with 5.625” ID mounting diameter
I talked with them today after submitting their online form. They have redone the module connection and have redone the cables with a thicker guage of wire. They are a bit backlogged with requests so I'm hoping to hear more later this week.
Ok makes sense. The whole issue with the original design was the cable can work its way lose from the connection causing issues that overheat and melt part of it. The replacement I got included a new locking bracket that I screwed into the back of the unit. I wonder if the new units have that feature built in rather than an add on.
Just curious if you saw the latest recall? I see two statements on their site, one stating stop using and get a refund, and another that says they will send a replacement kit. Have you researched anything yet? I'll try calling them tomorrow. I've been using mine for years now on a 2017 4runner with no problems. I love it and don't want to lose it's functionality.
When I did this it was just the EC8 cable recall. So no I had seen they recalled the whole link module. I will check mine and address if needed for sure!
I did the recall and got my package 2 days ago. New cable looks way more beefy. I actually don’t know how it’s gonna fit where my old plug is lol
@melvfernandez Thank for sharing the update. Hope it works out!
So why not just use the fan wires connected to the 12V dc port directly makes no sense all the wiring to the fuse block. Totally not needed
To optimize use of the output ports on the Yeti. In my build, all the Yeti 12V outputs are connected to the fuse block using a combo cable. Then the fuse block gets 40A and I can connect all sorts of things of different amp ratings to the fuse block. This is better than using up the whole 10A DC “cigarette” port on the Yeti to run one thing that only draws a few amps at most. Look at my other videos on electrical. Not sure your house battery type and what’s available. It even if you have just one DC port, it could be broken out to a panel to allow more things to be run as long as you stay under the max amps of that port.
@@DadsVan oh well yea that makes sense then. In the video it’s only being used for one thing which was the source of the confusion.
@thepatternforms859 Lol. No worries! It was the first thing I hooked up. Thanks for the comments
this is questionable because the bearing support is the fiber glass roof/chassis.
The roof is sheet metal not fiber glass. The rails are installed in the roof channel per manufacturer requirements. Solid as a rock and no issues
It was extremely helpful to see how the clips on the trim piece worked. Definitely the crux of the project. My replacement job went very quickly and smoothly. Thanks for the video!
That is great to hear! Thank you and happy road tripping!
I have a crew van as well and about to do a fan. can you tell me if you had to move the light hole where you placed the fan? Thx for the videos. awesome!
I did not have to move the hole for the interior light. All lights remain in their factory positions
@@DadsVan may I asked what you used to cut the headliner?
@bpetersonaz I used a box cutter. It was tough in a few areas where the headliner is thicker, but got the job done. Good luck with your build!
Real nice job, attempting this soon myself.
Thank you! It makes a big difference in sound and temperature. Good luck with your build!
Good info. Could have done this video in about 30 seconds though.
Thanks for the feedback!
BIG help! Thank you.
You’re welcome!
Not sure. How to tell?
Does the front of the vehicle look like the model years 2019 and newer? Or the previous style from 2018 and before
Having the same problem with my tweeter speakers on an Airstream 2019 Interstate. Rather than mounting new speakers in the doors is there a replacement speaker # that you might know of? Also my center speaker is giving garbled speech. Would you know that # as well? Thank you for a reply.

I have had no problems. Lived in snowy cold climate and now tropical warm. All is good!

Hi guys I have the same charger but the arms got stuck and doesn't work to grip the phone. Anyone can fix the problem please.
The only issue I’ve encountered is when the USB outlet doesn’t have high enough amps it will cause the arms to not close. Did you try another outlet?

Thanks for the kind words! Good to hear it was helpful. Have fun out there!
Thanks for providing this video. Very helpful!
Thank you! I am glad it helped. Good luck with your build!
There is always another error code on these garbage vehicles. F Mercedes
Sorry to hear about your experience! This is the only one I’ve had to deal with thus far. If you disconnect the power by gas pedal before removing seat this code will not occur.
Hey, I know the height of that but how many feet was that role? Thanks,
50 feet roll, 60” wide
Are you stoked on the result? Did it quiet it down at all? And then looks like no sound deadening? Thanks Bill
Also did you think about putting two layers where there was room?
Yes, it significantly reduces sound. My van sounded like a rattling metal box until I did this. Could not even talk or listen to music without being loud. I did use vibration dampening in the van too. These areas in the insulation video had stock vibration dampening pads so I didn’t add much more. My channel has another vid on those dampening pads.
I did not consider two layers. I was happy with results from one, and wanted to save some in case I needed it later.
I have 2002 C230 and 2006 ML350. iCarsoft doesn't feel the need to provide full support on "older" benz's even though they are listed in vehicle list. They actually told me so in an email. Fault codes come up as unknown codes, and though it is says it's successfully clearing the SRS errors, it is not. Read them and they are still there, light still on. I swapped my steering wheel with a refurb'd one, and got SRS light, which I expected, but thought no problem, i have iCarsoft. Uh, no it won't frickin' clear, and there is no one around here with SDS. It does however provide a plethora of data in the live data section for each section. When I removed the old steering wheel, I was so excited (old one was sooo nasty!), I did not mark the position. DOH! So, I used iCarsoft to check the steering angle in the ESP section. I had disconnected the battery, so I had to reconnect with the airbag out, big mistake. I'm not sure if it would have thrown an SRS code either way if I'd left it disconnected, but I'm very digusted with iCarsoft. Kicking myself for not marking the hub with a marker before pulling it. 😭Ok, it has helped in some repairs, but there are random major gaps in it's functionality that you only find out when you need it most, I mean for F's sake, a Mercedes code reader that tells you basic MB codes are unknown? Thankfully they are published. My old Carsoft (not iCarsoft) box that ran with a serial connection on XP could read all those codes. Unfortunately that computer died years gone by.
Beautiful
Thank you!
You saved my weekend❤
Glad you’re back up and running!
Thanks very much, I found this video extremely helpful
Thank you and I’m glad it was helpful. I could not find any info on wiring that sliding door speaker which is what motivated me to make the video. Good luck with your build!
Oh, and you should add a link to those wire cutters ;)
Good point! They are made by Klein: amzn.to/46Djy3h
Great video. The link to the Subwoofer mounting panel doesn't work though.
Try this one. Contact Hein and give him specs on the woofer you want to install so he can cut it correctly. www.ebay.com/itm/133897494562?mkcid=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&ssspo=alIbFw-4T36&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=vhqee2hztso&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY&siteid=0&campid=5338601399&customid=&toolid=10001
Very cool. That wiring in the side door is very clever.
Thank you! I really wanted the speaker there so had to figure this one out carefully. It wasn’t easy but works great now.
Very good video, thanks!!
Thank you and good luck with your upgrade!
Hello, I have the same unit with the exact same components but have gotten a "no signal lately after the heater tries to fire. How has your been for you? Any issues with wiring? I am trying to troubleshoot my issue currently
Did you run the antenna up the side of the van? I ran mine from under passenger seat where heater is up the B pillar
Did you pair the remote per the initial setup instructions on pg 11 of the manual? You have to pair it using the “button” connected to the main unit. Basically you push the button, it will flash, and then on the remote navigate to the Pair Mode / Add menu option and select that.
How are u charging Goal Zero? Solar or off generator?
Both. 300W solar on roof (3 x 100W panels) and then I also tie into the alternator using the yeti car link. Videos for both are on my channel.
Oh, and I also have a 120V shore power hookup on side of van that feeds into two charging inputs. So three total charging options. The battery is almost always full
What else are u running off that fuse box? How.much can That 12v plug power?
The 12V socket can do 10 amps. That’s plenty for the fan. The 7.5 amp rating and fuse for the fan is a max. It won’t ever hit that but that’s the required protection. I actually combo the 12V with the all the other outputs using an adapter to get 40 amps to the distribution block. Then I break that out to power everything in my van. Fan, led lights, fridge, heater. There’s still room to hookup more, and eventually I’ll add water pump and cooktop
Thank you for showing how it is really done!
You bet! Thanks for watching and good luck with your van!
How come the engine light stayed on after the reet
That is normal when the key is in ignition but only in accessory mode. It is a internal check that the light is working
So glad my husband is an electrician but on houses going to test his skills thanks for the vid

No Insulation??? you will regret that decision
Yeah I thought about that but felt the wood subfloor plus vinyl plank floor that includes a bottom layer of insulation was enough. So far no regrets.
Thanks for video 😂 one of these days im going to attempt to change the speakers on 2015 sprinter.
Thank you! The upgrade is totally worth it! Good luck with your build!
I’m in the process of doing the same setup with my factory headliner, though no with 80/20. Seeing how you approached this gave me some good ideas regarding attachment options. There are not many examples with a factory headliner. Thanks for sharing and providing the details. All the best with the remainder of your build and the adventures the van will bring.
Thanks for the kind words! Good luck with your build and adventures to come!
Thanks for sharing.
You bet! Thanks for watching!
Great video. How long exactly did it take before the van was able to start? 15? 30 minutes? An hour?
Depends how depleted the battery was, but typically 5 min max. You need to rev the engine of the other car to speed up the process. It may also help to rev engine of other car while trying to start the van.
