I took this vid from seat 29F on the 24/3/17 of our final approach and landing into Adelaide after departing from Perth earlier. Apologies for a bit of shakiness and we hit the runway pretty bloody firm too. Enjoy!

Hahahaha Truckie stupidity hold them up. Reverse square under the bucket not square on the teeth ya F**CKEN C**T.
Shows the lack of mentality in a mining operator... they could easily limit the amount of dust by not dropping his bucket load from 5 meters in the air onto the truck ...

Sigh.... Same fundamental errors as 80% of operators, and workplaces, make these days. Ie; You have stacks of material right in front of you, no need to reach for more every pass. That way you can bring your stick to vertical before you hoist and slew, which will make both functions faster. Hint: let the digger lean forward ever so slightly to allow it to complete passes with much more ease.
I know this question is years late but, what happens to the rock or stone at a gold mine, do they sale it off to another customer or do they crush it and make gravel or road base material?

Thanks for this. Have done PER - ADL but always gotten to ADL after dark so never got to feel the deep turn prior to ADL arr.. Will do this QF592 day trip one day.

If cab is on right on 996, it is just because first customer asked for it.
dang I hate it for them air filters I bet y'all have to blow the air filters out 4 times a day. that's bad on the engine why don't throw use a water truck or something to keep the dust down?
Dry-type air cleaner with pre-cleaner, with automatic dust ejector. Even the radiators eat a lot of dust and for this reason the hydraulic motor that power the fan invert the air flow sometimes to clean it
how is he even able to see anything in this dust?!?

Stephen Leahy thats what i was thinking we had 3 996s and the cab was on the left on all of them.
He is digging the key way at the end of his bench thats why the cab is on the right side, after this he will spin his tracks 45 and walk off and dig the last part of his bench saves him spinning tracks full 90

My son operated one of these in an open cut copper mine in Australia. At 680 tonnes is is one big digger. 40 cubic metre bucket.
I drove an Atlas 1402 in 1977, it was one of the few hydrualic excavators available on the market at the time. With joystick controls it was way ahead of its time. Katos were about the only other hydrualic ecavator available.
