New to quads. Wondering why the point at the lower end of the stem doesn't have multiple sets of holes so the Ackerman and/or bump steer can be tuned? Everyone seems to extend the a-arms and mess with the castor and travel without much thought, not seeming to consider the implications for the steering stem which has a fixed location and geometry throughout its range of motion. No wonder im seeing so many people try to install steering dampers as the other thing no considered enough is the steering knuckle arm extending from the front hub/spindle for the tie rod end to connect too. Even shortening thos arm a fraction and/or altering its geometry from straight to having an inwards bend a small distance from the tie rod end can have profound implications for the steering feel. Not to mention getting the rake and trail for the front wheels set up properly. (Ie; if you were to disconnect the steering arms and replaced them with a solid bar that jpined the two front wheels together and pushed the bike, what would the front wheel behaviour be? Would they wobble back n forth? Would they stay dead still and follow the direction of travel? Would tey instantly snap to one side and refuse to budge until the bike was pushed backwards? Now what happens when ypu do the same at various positions of the suspension travel? Now consider the feedback for each consideration, factoring in the leverage advantage the longer arm of the hub has over the shorter span of the steering stem pivot point and the tierod end mounting holes. *Plus the sympathetic alignment of camber/castor to the arm attached to the hub relative to the steering arm, compared to that of the steering stem tierod end mount and/or angle of the steering stem itself..... Lots of complicated and interrelated factors to consider but the general jist should be coming apparent to anyone with a decent mechanical understanding and/or grasp of basic mathematic/engineering principles.)
