Go With The Flow; Behind the scenes of travel photography in Sine Saloum.
มุมมอง 1.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A few months ago, I completed a dream project for Suitcase Magazine; a travel story on Sine Saloum, Senegal. It's hard to film when you're working as a photographer, but here is a little peek into the behind-the-scenes of my travel photography. If you are in Senegal, I highly, highly recommend visiting this region. I hope you enjoy! Hotels mentioned; Collines de Niassam: niassam.com/index_fr.ht...
The Downsides Of Living In Dakar
มุมมอง 18K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I've been based in Dakar,Sengeal for almost a year now, and while I prefer living here to Accra,Ghana, it's not all rosy, as with any city in the world. So you choose what you want to have and what you're willing to give up. Here is part 2 of my first "I left Accra for Dakar. Here's WHY." There are other things I certainly struggle with here beyond what I mention in the video, but they require ...
Uncovering A Hidden Gem In Côte D’Ivoire - Beach House Tour
มุมมอง 9292 ปีที่แล้ว
I went to Cote d'Ivoire; a country whose energy, people, and food I love dearly. I initially wanted to do a video on life in bustling Abidjan, but I changed my mind. This video is dedicated to slow living on the coast east of Abidjan, in Assinie. And no, not in any sizeable resort-like place. That's not my style. It's no surprise at this point that being by the water is a high priority of mine....
I left Accra,Ghana for Dakar, Senegal. Here's WHY.
มุมมอง 15K2 ปีที่แล้ว
It's the first week of 2022; what better time to share a story of risk and immense change. While this change didn't happen for me at the beginning of the year, it could be helpful to you if you're considering a similar change in your own life (as most people are at the beginning of each year). In April 2021, I left my much-loved hometown, Accra, Ghana, for Dakar, Senegal. I share what inspired ...

Had to stop watching at 3.38 minutes, because it was a farce, very unprofessional, unprepared and not to the point. Getting up to close doors because of noise, to mix drinks r to adjust the light coming in. All things that should have anticipated and dealt with, before the video started. Its a waste of precious time.

In your previous video you talked about how hot and humid it is in Accra. Do foreigners feel they have to spend their life in sit conditioning 24/7? Can you elaborate on that, and about the infrastructure relating to electricity, water, Internet, transportation ,safety, and medical services? Are there neighborhoods close to the amenities like you found in Dakar?

Too many close ups. I had a hard time telling WHERE you were. So the filming felt very claustrophobic. But I appreciate your observations. The frequent protesting is a vestige of France. 🇫🇷 The French protest often - it’s almost a tradition. And as they say… namely in French speaking Africa, all roads lead to Paris. This also could be why they are rather reserved. French people are the same way. They could care less about customer service. They just don’t get the concept the I don’t want to come to your restaurant if you treat me like I’m a bother.

I'm currently on a 35 day vacation in dakar. I can't believe this place. It makes.me want to sell all my assets and start over here.... I don't know how I'd do it... maybe start a restaurant or an airbnb... but this place is paradise... I think I met the love of my life here... it hurts knowing I have to leave.... I can't believe this heaven on earth exists..

I lived there for two years. Downsides: Malarial mosquitos and huge, aggressive flies that will swarm on your food if you're outside eating. Taxis, as you said, require negotiation each time you enter one. Few of the taxis are in good condition. If you get one with a seat belt, you're lucky. If you get one with A/C, you must have hired a driver specifically. The languages are French and Wolof. If you don't speak either, talking to locals is a struggle. The slow pace of EVERYTHING will grind your nerves until you get used to it. If you have a car, it has to be washed DAILY due to the sand from the Sahel. Kids begging on the street is both irritating and heart breaking. But parents hand them over to the religious leaders who put them on the street to beg. Lastly, the Toubob pricing even hits you if you're a black American, making an expensive place even more so.
