Not every parent wants their kid to be happy, as Reba says, some parents actually try to control every aspect of their kids lives cause they're trying to live through their kids. But, even parents who do want their kids to be happy, cannot make their kids go to college. You can influence them, explain to them why you think they should, but you cannot make them, no matter how badly you want them to. And seriously, if i had a spouse that told me they should never have married me or bought a house with me, I'd be letting them go the next day, and i don't care if they meant it or not, just saying that to me is enough to make me let them go.
