2000 Toyota Tundra 4.7 transmission R&R quick rundown. Starter location found as well.
In this video , just a quick rundown on removal and replacement of the automatic transmission assembly in this Tundra and I figured out that the starter is underneath the intake manifold of the engine how stupid! well you learn something new everyday I guess

Oil leak problems and where to look and what to do on the 3126 cat high pressure oil pump
Man!!!!!!..... I appreciate tutorial ... I found out that was my problem also just wanted to make sure.... Very excited to do it myself......... Once again thanks
thanks for taking time to make this
That motor is approved for aircraft use. Starter is in center of motor for perfect balance. You don’t see any chevy, dodge or fords approve for aircraft use. Lol
Thank you for the good info
Was it hard to change out the pump? I think mine needs to be changed
Guess it’s a good idea to put a new cooler with new transmission. Gonna do mine next week
I've heard it was to protect it. I have 276k miles on my 02 tundra and I just replaced the starter about 3k miles ago. It took about 5 hours and was not fun but it did last a long time lol!
I think they put the starter at the top to help keep it clean and free of debris and would help if you were driving through mud, water, etc, especially if stalled out and needing to restart the engine. Can you please run me through the proper steps in order to remove the transmission. I assume you have to disconnect the drive shaft first, then remove the cross-brace, then the bell-housing bolts? Do you know the exact order from the manual? Thanks for the help dude.
So the trans also needs to be flushed a couple times?
What size are the 2 bolts again?
good job! Duly noted on my end and so one person has gratitude for your posting. I don't have that pump, but, I'll surely run into it because the mech will be throwing wrenches and cussing.
I've got that problem
so what was the price on that tranny? \
When installing the transmission do u put the torque converter on then bolt it to the fly wheel
The torque converter should go in with the transmission, once the transmission is bolted in, you can bolt up the torque converter
have this same engine 3126B in my FL chassis motorhome. my original line was a rubber hose. started cracking so ordered the steel line... no matter what I did I couldn't get it to fit right. finally gave up and went to the local hydraulic hose shop. 6500psi line hose with 2 new fittings, went right in no problems and no leaks. Cost was 25% of the steel line too.....
Glad I ran across this.. was just getting ready to spend $200 on the steel line conversion. Think I'll just get a new rubber hose instead, after reading and watching.
what's the easiest way to get the top passenger side bolt out of the tranny on the 2000 Toyota tundra
To replace the flywheel do you need to remove the starter?
No you don’t, it will come right off
I just woke up to the same problem this morning at the truck stop. I have the same engine and heui pump. Can I just replace that o-ring or the line? Or do I have to replace the entire pump?
These motors seem to be pretty good. Starter is just in a bad place. Real question is how many have you had to replace?
It’s super easy to replace it’s actually in a great place if you think about it.
I can’t believe I found this video just when I needed it the most I’m having problems with that same fitting I already changed the O-ring four times and it only works for a few days and then starts leaking again and I am the second person working on that same problem great video thanks.
Hi. My truck is a 10 speed manual (Eaton) the gears stock was on high range (I was told that this was a minor issue) But The mechanic told me it's a big damage, they need to rebuild it for $ 3500 without labor!!!. I agreed. Then I found out, that he replaced it with another one, that one doesn't have a cooler (my transmission had one) tell me please if what the mechanic did is right/okay?. Should I accept this transmission ( the new one without the cooler)? He's working on the truck now, haven't finished yet.. I still have time... should I accept what he did or not?? Please reply 🙏
I’ve got a 2002 tundra 4.7 it has 318k miles on original trans and engine . It all comes down to maintenance
Yup. I have a 2001 v8 tundra with 350k. All original minus water pump, timing belt and Serpentine belt. This guy must have bought a 🍋.
Starter in the middle of the engin...lol
Where Is the fuel shut off solenoid located ?
It's the 2 wire electric solenoid on the pump body.
No such thing on a caterpillar
The food looks looks like its draining out from the slave cylinder any advice
I have the same problem with coolant draining out from bell housing is there a transmission coolant line somewhere
Its coolant leaking out of belljousing?
Make sure it's not just running down the side or into the bell housing somehow? EhT exactly ate you working on anyhow? Most heavy trucks do not have slave cylinders, except for volvos and some Mack's. That I've seen anyhow
@@1goldy014 leaking directly from clutch slave cylinder
@@arnoldjaramillo9806 there should not be any coolant lines in there.
2009 Cummins engine
How did you get the back bolt out
Swivel sockets most likely. Been a while since I did this project but I recall extensions and swivels
My tranny had that muddy look to it. I took it to Peterbilt they installed a new tranny and my truck is doing the same thing I took it in for. It drives great for about an hour then when I come to a stop and try to pull off it gets to bucking and jerking and sometimes I loose acceleration. Do you think that might be my problem. Then after 20 min or so I can go a little longer.
What year and what engine is in the truck?
We're trying to put on one of these cooler/heat enchangers tonight. It is a bitch of a job to get at it. I bought this truck and someone had disconnected the coolant lines to the cooler. I didn't want to re-hook the lines because they probably disconnected for a reason. So we're putting on a new one and couldn't get the oil lines disconnected. Trying to disconnect them from the bottom of the transmission now and pull the whole cooler out and re-assemble from the floor. Looks like you had a little more space to work
Definitely not an easy job even on the peterbilt I was working on.i had half a mind to have 2 new oil lines made long enough to mount the cooler outside the frame under the hood and then extend the coolant hoses as well.
@@1goldy014 funny you say that. We were looking at different locations to mount it as well. But the way they have the coolant connections bent coming out of the cooler make it hard to find a place to mount where the coolant connections are still accessible
@@ramman2941 nah, just get creative man. Nothing a welder and a few scrap metal pieces can't make happen.plenty of brackets and places to mount on most trucks as long as it away from the exhaust.
I just replaced transmission oil cooler with the old system. An Eaton radiator , P/N: EATON 18025FUL. It burned all the transmission gears, I had to overhoul the trasmission because of that Oil cooler that mix coolant with oil. Also made a lot of flushing in order to clean the coolant system, main radiator, engine lines and reservoir tank tath were with a lot of oil.
That sucks. In this case no oil made it into the coolant system. We replaced cooler with a brand new one.
So you converted your heat exchanger with an air cooled cooler? I’m going through same issues right now and trying to figure out what to do, let me know how you did the conversion
the power steering lines did not get in the way?
No the power steering lines were no a problem at all.
@@1goldy014 sweet thanks, I have the 4wd and it look like a bit of a squeeze to get the end of the transmission over them, I'm going to give it a crack next week
👍🏼
I feel your pain. After 20 years turning wrenches, I finally escaped the profession. Thank goodness for divorce from my ex-wife, it was the only way I could start over in a different field.....REAL ESTATE! Straight investor, buildings are so much easier to work on. I always advise young guys wanting to be a mechanic to just go to Med School and be a doctor. So much easier and pays better.
Hello, thanks for the video. How did you get the top bolts?
I have a 4 ft snap on extension and swivel sockets.
Lol some real mechanic talk! Straight up no 👍🏼 starter is in a dumb places
so it's 3 bolts holding it in? I'm having issues with no start on this damn engine on my school bus that I converted into a home, already dumped a bunch of money in and now looking at the horrible oil pump, thx for the video btw
That’s just stupid if you had just done the transmission wouldn’t you put in a new transmission cooler and while you’re putting one in one or just run or external one they’re much better Let me guess you probably never flushed out the radiator either
With the oil cooler going for $400 @ that time the customer did not want extra expense. It was his gamble. This is an external cooler. It's a commercial truck and its mounted on top of the transmission with coolant and oil running through. Came from factory that way. Why tf would I flush the radiator? The cooling system pressure outflows the trans oil pressure through a little crack inside the cooler itself. Probably a weld seam. There was never any oil in the coolant.
@@1goldy014 Gary is a know it all that knows nothing..........
@@1goldy014 do you think that heat / cooler exchanger is necessary to have. Or will a bypass be good enough and keep the transmission safe ? Mine just went out on my truck and I’m trying decided if I want to pay to get the part or do the bypass. Thanks
@@jpena2118 remove at your own risk. If you're in a jam it's fine. Extended use causes premature failure of trans. Watch your trans temp gauge closely. I personally wouldn't recommend running it long bypassed
Thank you so much for first detail video on transmission of tundra ! My sequoia 06 transmission is going bad . Can you please explain in order how you got the top bolts open .Looks tight space . How much do you charge hourly ? Best regardd
The top bolts can be removed two ways, I used a 4 ft extension and a swivel socket to get to them. Once you remove the crossmember and mount at the back of the transmission let it hang there. Mind you, make sure you leave atleast one other lower bolt in place so it doesnt drop on you. The other way is to use a wrench (preferably ratcheting wrench) and reach from the back on the top of the engine. If all else fails remove the engine I take manifold you can easily access the top bolts then. Good luck
You poor fool 😿 Thanks for the video, I will run my self away screaming no no no!
sorry, do you think the 06 model is the same as your 2000?
Not completely sure but if it has the 4.7 you can most likely be sure it's still under the Intake manifold
Yeah the starter under intake pain in the azz to replace
Couldn't you just install one of these instead of that pipe? th-cam.com/video/y1vuOSPDXNM/w-d-xo.html&t
