Our Japan adventures in 90 seconds

Seven weeks in Japan took us from the sandy shores of Miyakojima to the old capital of Kyoto to a small town nestled in the Japanese Alps. We ate sushi (often 3 times a day), basked in the amazing scenery, ran, hiked, explored, and did our best to soak up this incredible country.
Miyakojima: First Swim

Early morning run to nearby Sunayama beach, and it was simply amazing.
The Sun Burns

After learning about the most venomous creatures in tropical Japan, we take our chances with a sunset dip at the beach outside our airbnb and go on a morning excursion to Playa Shirakawa (where we were the only souls on the beach!). Angela did not get a spike through her foot, but did find a five foot long snake skin.
Smoothies at Yonaha Beach

We tracked down the supposed best smoothie place on the island, and it did not disappoint. Then on to Yonaha beach, a 7km strip of white sand and clear waters.
We Found the Turtles! (and a lighthouse)

Our last adventure in Miyakojima (for now at least) was exploring the lighthouse on Cape Higashi-Hennazaki and then fingers crossed, tracking down turtles at Aragusuku beach.
Kyoto Time!

The next leg of our adventure takes us to Kyoto, former capital of Japan. Our first few days have been amazing. The scenery is stunning, the food mouth-watering, and the Matcha... everywhere! We are eating and drinking as much of it as we can :)

The Worst Aquarium

Matt and David duel in an epic battle with shocking results, we climb a mountain to visit an aquarium, but mostly play Japanese mountain mini disc golf?
The Butte of Ritsurin Garden

We get lost on a butte and Matt leaves me for dead, but we still end up in the MOST beautiful gardens.
This is Hakuba / Vending Machine Drama

Our first full day in Hakuba and it is spectacular. We set out for the foothills to see how far we can go. The view speaks for itself, but perhaps the real hero here is the maintenance lady at the top of the mountain who saves us from vending machine drama?!
