I put an ad in the paper - "if you've got an old mirror dinghy in the shed and want it to go to a good home, give me a call". A lovely gent by the name of David responded. Yes he had an old mirror that he had built in the 70s and didn't have the time to restore or sail it. It was a beautifully crafted amateur-built Mirror - far nicer than most. Thanks for taking the time to give us all a good looksee. You keep it nice. I've got a 2001 here in Virginia in the USA, but it's nowhere near as clean and shipshape. You mention having a Danforth anchor in that tiny locker up on the bow. I'd like to have seen that. I can only wonder what size might even fit in there, unless you modded the locker somehow. I've got a Fortress FX-11, but hold it underway in an 8 inch (about 20 cm) PVC pipe held vertically onto one of those starboard bow railings with three big stainless hose clamps. I think I may have that same bow roller. Anyhow, take care and thanks again! I'm gonna go check out your other offerings now.

      @ricdanger2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Geoff, sails like a pig unfortunately. Heels early before it firms up at about 20%, lots of windage so doesn't go upwind very well, squared off quarter makes it bumpy downwind in the slightest chop. Good on a run tho!

    Hi Ric, nice job. I'm doing something similar here in Adelaide - I bought an old OLD mirror for $150 and I'm 'resuscitating' it (not a full restoration). If you trip over a spare mainsail in your travels please let me know, the one I have has been butchered by a previous owner so I'm on the scrounge. Cheers mate, Bruce. There's a thread about it on the WoodenBoat magazine forum but youtube won't let me post a link

    Hi Keith, Where I repaired or built new pieces I epoxied the joins. After that just a good sanding and then two coats of undercoat and two coats of topcoat on the whole boat. Because the boat isn't designed to sit in the water for long periods of time creating a waterproof seal of all the timber using epoxy isn't required. Paint is enough. Cheers
