December 1980. I was at Hahn Air Force base in Germany.
I know times have change but my heart tells me the pilots of this generation were among the best ever. They knew how to fly the plane with little help from any computers. Todays pilots yes they are good but these old boys could fly the pants off them !!!!
One of my memory treats is flying in a BEA Trident from London to Stavanger, Norway, aided by a stiff tailwind, at a groundspeed of 740 miles per hour.
WOW what a beautiful looking aircraft and menacing way ahead of it's time something from Star wars?
The famous writer Roald Dahl crashed in the egyptian desert flying a Gladiator
Always liked the look of this loco, but here in Ireland I only ever saw it as a model. They seem so smokey like a steam loco only its diesel fumes here !
I was still only six in December 1956 when our family moved into the airman's married quarters at RAF St. Eval in Cornwall where Shakletons were still operating before moving to RAF St. Mawgan (Now Newquay Airport) a couple of years later. Having them fly over our house on approach was an amazing sight and cemented a lasting interest in aviation.
Really nice airplane. Kudos for making it so bizarre looking. Probably so nobody would steal it. =PC=
The very last picture I've got of my wife Christine is sat in the drivers seat of the Green Howards at Barrowhill, Two weeks before she suddenly passed away on the 3/9/23 Bless her❤
Had two very different crossings on theses things way back. One was with the channel like a mill pond, absolutely smooth, the other was with a 30ft swell when the ferry I was on was the last one out before they deemed it too rough !
I wasn't aware there were any of these still in existence. Absolutely wonderful to see.
三叉戟飞机对于中国空军或者民航来讲都是一种很重要的飞机。
...Like the Thunderbirds but in real life... phenomenal machines.
Well, this video didn't age well.. The MRA4 was a shameful and humiliating fiasco.
I'm curious about what kind of forklift Captain Denis Wood preferred to use whenever he needed to haul around his massive forged steel balls because there's no way a hand-truck is gonna carry a load that heavy without folding up like a cheap suit.
The Tri & half engines jet...
Fantastic piece of engineering, all this wonderful skill, thrown away by successive Tory & Labour parties. government
Hiya, Sam -just a lad!! RIP, Brummie and Bronco.
He was one of a kind. I know I speak for Andy and the rest of the team, we were so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him.
Wonder if Andy ever tried squirrel again. Great episode! Thank you.
Ha, I think it safe to say no. I can remember Richard the cameraman struggling to hold the camera for laughing when we filmed Andy trying to gut the squirrel. Glad you enjoyed it.
Lo maximo
These were great a Big thank you for them all. Well done
Putting them up has been a lovely trip down Memory Lane for myself. Brummie was such an amazing chap and the real deal. And Andy is one of the nicest fellas you could wish to meet. So glad you enjoyed them.
So elegant
I remember watching my dad, who was a test pilot for Hawker Siddeley at Woodford, take off in a Victor. It was the Woodford airshow in about 1972 or ‘73. He gave it full gas and the ground shook as this incredible aircraft thundered down the runway.
She looks amazing
Someone should organise shipment of a Deltic to tour the USA to mark the bicentenary in 2025,
What was the tactical strength of this primitive thing? To be blown out of the sky by Migs?
Thank You Commander. Well Done Sir.
It’s so ugly it looks cool !
I was privileged as a child to fly in these from Portsmouth to the Channel Islands. With the possible exceptions of the Rapide and the VC-10, definitely one of my favourite aircraft I've flown in.
I'm really enjoying this. I would love to see the rest of the series, but the videos are private. I hope you can make the videos public soon.
Glad you are. enjoying them. Brummie was an amazing chap to spend time with. Will put the rest up in the next week or so
Is it just me or did all the drivers have a look of contentment, it must have been a brilliant job.
Like the man said the Deltic even among diesel loco's was a cut above, a rare honour indeed.
Excellent. I used to go Kings Cross to Dundee to see my Grandparent's with them.
Interesting theory. It's amazing how in depth research can turn a fairy tail into a rather basic human desire to get the medication to treat illness they couldn't treat before.
Was this what they called CO CO class? I think the one down was called BO BO? Or am I completely wrong?
This V bomber was beautifully designed, along with the Vulcan and Valiant. But there's just something menicing about it's looks.
As a kid, the sound of a Deltic used to scare but at the same time, enthralled me. Been fascinated by them ever since.
"Taken from 40 miles away"Or 64 kms for us Aussies. Remarkable!!!
So thankful they are back! Hope you're doing the whole series.
Glad you are enjoying the shows. Will put the last eps up over the next few weeks.
@@television1066thanks very much, these eps are great.
My grandfather Peter Clarke flew these aircraft. He flew back when they were part of the nuclear deterrent rather than recce or AAR It’s interesting what they wer3 saying at the end - he told us that if the scramble was the real deal, he’d not be coming home - because there’d be nothing to come to. I’m not sure if it’s because what his crew were dropping meant that to be the case, or that the retaliation would be home before him, but he did say he believed (or knew) he had details of where to go in the event it went noisy.
I’d love to see one here in Christchurch working alongside our our brand new Poseidons. I always love the Brits. Except when we play ya at Rugby or Cricket ! Cheers my Cobbers….Love ya!
No Nimrods left.
I just LOVE stuff like this! Well done, gents!
I recently was at the Tesla museum in Zagreb Croatia. On display was a Napier Deltic engine. It was almost incomprehensible to look at. Defiying all the norms of power plant design. It was a truly majestic sight. By far the most interesting Display in the museum which has many amazing items including a submarine and some aircraft.
Is that Dr Ormerod?
What amazing machines.I say if the EU doesn't allow them that proves we need to retire the EU, not the train.
10:00 so the steam boiler would send steam to the passenger cars for heating?
I would think Pratt & Whitney would be one of the world leaders of radial engine
They did eventually catch up yes
For me it is the most beautiful aircraft ever, nothing before or after can compete for shear drama and presence.
From the beautiful blue livery with the arrows on the to the shitty big yellow pug-nosed standard- what a letdown
The first Meteor i saw was the gate guard at the RAF hospital in Ely, Cambridgeshire. Beautiful aircraft
Beautiful thing. Sadly, I've only seen static examples. One day when I'm in Europe again, hope to see one fly.
