I remember the Farmers building when it was still a department store. I used to love taking the escalators to the top floor, where Hector the parrot lived, and there was a kids' playground. There was also an exit to a timber lookout, where you could get a view of the city from several floors up. Oooh, exciting! This was back in the day when the thing that dominated the skyline was the museum, as you sat on the bus from the North Shore and crossed on the harbour bridge (two lanes in those days).
